Calorie Cycling

Thursday, September 06, 2012

Tomorrow I will begin calorie cycling. I've not done this before so am eager to see if this body will be fooled by it. Sounds like others have found success with this. Not sure how long I ought to cycle...? hope everyone has a great weekend!

    hahahahaha-
I love it when folks don't understand something and their reply makes me chuckle.
One of my sparkbuds was talking about her hubby (who is whining about a college class) and a comment was about how to deal with her SON.
Anyway- I find I naturally calorie cycle, don't you?
But when I really worked at it, I tended to do 1000 cals for a few days (too low and I get headaches) and then 1800-2000 for a day or so, then repeat, ad nauseaum...

Good luck!

I'm not sure what that is...I'll have to consult the great oracle! Google, that is.
Good luck!

The first few minutes of cycling are the hardest until your body gets the feel then you can keep going. If you have never cycled before I wouldn't overdue the first time. Fifteen to twenty minutes should be a good starter time , then add minutes as you go along.

Junk food days...

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Just returned from nine day road trip with son's family which includes a very stubborn, yet overwhelmingly adorable, 15 month old daughter and an often times nearly impossible almost 4 year old daughter. Then we combined a total of 9 hikes, an evening of western dinner theater, a morning of babysitting so the parents could compete in a trail run and a 12 hour babysitting stint before leaving on the trek so parents could do a climb/hike here. Combine all that with this grandma doing the best I can with all this heat and activity and various stressors while also fighting a bit of exacerbation of multiple sclerosis and I'm about to drop. I tried to eat pretty well on the trip, but then found that today and yesterday I've really messed up. Our sweet daughter left in our fridge a home made lasagna, salad, garlic bread and brownies made from scratch by her two boys and decorated by 2 year old daughter. I couldn't resist. Wonderful comfort food, but now it is back to the healthy stuff which I've actually grown to love. I've got to lose the nearly two pounds that appeared this morning. Ouch! Then back to the slow and steady route once again. I know I can do it. Love those grandkids, but gotta plan for some me time on our next journey. LOL!!!

Sounds like a wonderful (though exhausting) trip! You did well to only put on 2 lbs. Hope the autumn brings lots of 'me' time to eat well, rest & exercise as you're accustomed to now.
Blessings,
Azurelite

Nine days!
That is a lot of chances to mess up!

Time to take care of you now!

Summer is flying and so am I

Wednesday, August 01, 2012

Today's adventure with my two gandsons was 36 holes of miniature golf. I hadn't played in years and it was their first time at 7 and 9. It was a hot, hot day, but we really had a lot of fun. This whole summer has been filled with adventures with my grand kids. August is looking as busy as the rest. I love these outings as my pedometer gets a workout, too. Still. I need my time in the gym and pounding the pavement and trails on my own or with my dh. Life is good. Have a great August everyone! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I just adore being a grammy and spending time with my Lucy and William. They are barely old enough for field trips (although we do have 2 car seats in our car) but we get out and about around the neighborhood.
Can't wait until they're old enough for mini-golf and some such.

Slow, but steady

Monday, July 30, 2012

I get so discouraged when I read about those amazing Sparks losing lots of weight in some pretty amazingly 'speedy' ways. My own progress has been really slow. However, when I look back I see there has actually been progress. I can exercise longer, my clothes are looser and I have overall much better stamina. Instead of anticipating my next ms crash I'm making the most of this moment today. Today I did some weight training, 30 minutes on elliptical, 10 miles on the bike and the walked back up the 4 flights of stairs from our gym. I may get outside for a walk a little later today. But, even if I don't, I know I've gotten in a respectable workout. Have a greets week everyone! emoticon

My thoughts go to the turtle and the hare story. You may look great out of the starting gate, but its the slow and steady that wins the race and keeps the weight off because of the slow changes and making it a lifestyle, not a "diet" that you go off of as soon as possible. emoticon

I am very very happy for their success and (think I) have conquered the bad habit of comparing my journey to others.
Sounds like you are doing grrrrrreat!

You are not alone in that. I read some of these things and it blows me away. My progress has been much like yours and sometimes even slower than that! I just keep plugging away. Good luck to you, too!

Elliptical success and challenge

Monday, July 30, 2012

It was too hot to exercise outdoors yesterday so I hit the gym, did some weights and finally succeeded in going an hour on the elliptical. Now, I hope to replicate that often and set it for a more challenging setting. We'll see how it goes over the next few weeks as am sure there will be more days when it is a bit too hot for me outside. It's so encouraging to see progress here and there. Have a great week everyone! emoticon

I love the elliptical. You get hot and breathless but your legs don't ache too much. Magic!
