For more than three weeks I've been so blessed to be with our son's family in beautiful Seattle. I'm here to take care of our new granddaughter, Lucy. But, I also get to spen some really special times with their almost three year old, Emily. She goes to daycare in an amazing facility in the building where our dil works. We've done some hiking, but mostly I've been babysitting most every day, including weekends. I ache everywhere, but it has been so worth it. I can recall how much exercise it took when I had two small children of my own. Of course I was much stronger then. The MS hadn't gotten as out of control yet and I definitely had youth on my side. I so appreciate being able to help our son. It is such a joy to watch this little family function. I will miss them so much when I return home. But, for now I intend to enjoy every moment or cuddles, kisses and exercising muscles I've not focused on in awhile. After next Saturday I will get back to my life and spending whatever time I can with our daughter's family that lives only about 40 minutes from us rather than two days away as this is. Every day brings new blessings, new opportunities to make more special memories. One day if I am again limited to wheels or have other issues that keep me down, I will have this time to bring smiles at every remembrance. Have a great weekend everyone!

So, last week I broke a toe. Actually my grandson jumped on it and there it went. Of course this happened just as I was really getting into a good stair workout. Then I caught some sort of weird 'bug' that left me down with high fever for three days. I hate summer extra aches just when I want to be out and about. I'm making a comeback, though. The buddy-taped toe has lots of blood draining back into the foot. Looks kind of strange, but the healing is happening. That's all I care about. Meanwhile, I've taken up boxing on the Wii. Another little something our grandson introduced us to. It is so much fun and I get a really good upper body workout. Last night I even knocked out my dh! Does that mean he's now broken, too? Have a great summer everyone. We finally have hot, hot weather here so when I do get out I try to get out early and then hibernate somewhere in the AC. Oh, yes, I'm not going to play any Wii games barefoot with my 6 year old grandson. I can learn!

After meeting my newest granddaughter I was quickly reminded that I need more stair workouts. Our son's house has three floors, all of which are very much in use. In fact, you enter on the first floor - music room, laundry 1/2 bath, mud room. The living area, kitchen, dining are on middle level (no bathroom there). The bedroom and two more baths are at the top. So, with a newborn and a 2 1/2 year old I was up and down a lot. I really felt how out of shape those muscles are. So, on the flight home I prayed that I would be in better shape for August when I return for four weeks and four days to care for the children the first few weeks our daughter-in-law is back to work. Well, the Lord certainly has a sense of humor. We arrived back to our condo to discover that the elevator to my parking area will be out of service for the next few weeks awaiting parts and repairs. Now, every time I come in or out I have to go up or down at least two flights and if I'm ambitious I can do all seven. The shorter routes take me to another parking level or lobby level to cross over to another elevator. Because my parking is the deepest, only one elevator actually goes all the way down to it. Every day offers new opportunities. Yesterday I was up and down four times. Puff, puff! Hopefully I will be in shape for those stairs when I go back to tend those little girls.

I thought I was going the right way again after adjusting thyroid medication. But, when I hopped on the scale yesterday and today it told a different story. Now, I'm wondering if I haven't been drinking enough water and retaining some. So, my next plan is to really focus on getting all the fluid I think I need and then add a bit more because it's now summer. Hopefully, by the time I get home from meeting my new granddaughter this weekend I will see that the water has come off. At least that's my current plan! Hope everyone is having a great week!

Through the years I've continued to win small prizes now and then. Nothing grand. Just enough to keep me interested. When I talked my husband into standing on a number for a prize drawing over the weekend as we walked through a store promoting Father's Day, he was very reluctant. But, he relented and stood on a number adjacent to the one I picked. Well, my number was chosen and I received some bags of nuts and a gift certificate for clothing. It was a thrill for me. He, of course, won nothing. Both of us had reinforcement for the future choices we make about entering little contests. Getting healthier is similar to me. When I have little wins along the way - I can walk farther, lift more, lose a few ounces or a few pounds, etc. - I am encouraged to keep trying. Success breeds success in so many things. So, I'll keep working towards those little wins in my life. They give me a thrill. They encourage me to keep on trying. I hope you have some wins of all sorts in your life today and every day.
