I like the succinctness of your plans in order to reach your goals and the reward system. So, what reward do you have planned for when you do reach Onederland?

Christmas Humor

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

I gave this card to my mom one year! She has this thing about outhouses! When she first started teaching in Southern Illinois in a one room school house, she was a boarder at a local farmhouse which had only an outhouse. As a big city girl from Chicago, she was appalled! When she went home to Chicago at Christmas time, she told the superintendent that she wasn't coming back unless he found her a place to stay that had indoor plumbing. They checked around and found two old maids who would take her on as a boarder - and they had indoor plumbing. So she returned to her teaching position down there. The two old maids were my dad's aunts and that was how my parents met! Anyway, at 102 years old now - she loves the humor in this cartoon!

Staying on Track for the Holidays!

Friday, December 13, 2013

How can I keep up with a healthy diet and fitness program—let alone lose weight—with so much going on? The Christmas season lasts for weeks! There are more parties, more potlucks, more food gifts, more cookies and well, just more everything! How do we survive?

That answer is simple: Stick with your plan. I've overcome temptations and slip-ups before. Every day poses challenges, Why should the holidays be any different? If I want to lose weight this month, I can. I just have to choose to stay in control, one day at a time.

✳To accomplish that, I'm going to track my food every day. If I slip up and succumb to temptation, I'll count it and try to balance out my day's calories with a lighter dinner choice.

✳Planning is also a must! Each Sunday night, I'll make my menu plans for the week.

✳I'll include plenty of Freggies for snacks with an emphasis on the "veggie" part!

✳I'll continue with my streak of exercising at least 20 minutes each day - making time for my workout!

I read: "Don't Make Mountains Out of Molehills! - It's easy to go over your calories one day and feel like a failure. But remember that it takes much more than one day of overeating to thwart your progress. Accept your slip-ups, learn from them and move on."

✳I won't let any slip-ups derail my overall effort! I need to stop the mentality that says - "I blew it - I may as well continue to blow it!"

✳ I will not give up!

A spark friend of mine posed the question, " If you get a ticket for running a red light, would you continue to run more and acquire more tickets?" The all or none mentality is the same. We can chose to emoticon . It is after all a choice. We can always turn around. We do not have to blow the rest of our day because of one less than stellar choice! emoticon

Planning is definitely key to success. I also succumb to the mentality that I slipped up so oh well. So I also won't let slip ups derail me and just get right back on track.

Rejuvenating Mind & Body

Friday, November 01, 2013

I read an article about different ideas for rejuvenating your mind and body! I would normally say that I have a pretty stress free life but there are still times that I get overwhelmed. I've found many ways to relax and keep my mind from dwelling on my stress factors.

- exercise (before Sparks, I wouldn't have thought of it!) taking a walk or doing some ST
- visiting my favorite chat threads and sharing my thoughts with Sparks friends
- taking a nap (no more than 15 minutes)
- working on one of my many hobbies
- reading
- setting a timer for 15 minutes and organizing some part of my house!
- spending time looking at Pinterest or playing games!

By the time I'm done with whatever I've decided to do - I'm calmer and ready to face the world!
