It has been one heck of a year! WE had a blizzard in Oklahoma on 2/2 and the next week another 15 inches with temps of -30 degrees. Crazy!

Grace it was gruesome. And I had to go out in it, had too. So I took my 16 yr old son, and a shovel. He had to dig us out before we even got off our street! lol Then stuck again in front of the house, trying to get back in the driveway. Oh joy.
Glad you didnt have to brave this mess, although I consider myself a pretty tough cookie, my nerves were rattled by the time I returned home.
No More Snow Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Squat Challenge Day2 and other stuff

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

Day one of the challenge went well and getting up the next day wasn't bad at all. Just a little bit of backside soreness...lol.

Today I did day 2 of week three and it went well. I actually had to do the challenge at my desk. It was a busy day and was able to sneak about 10 minutes to do it. Everything was going fine until my last set. I had 2 left and the phone rang. So my last set was 20 instead of 22.

My goal that I had set in May was to take the steps at work instead of the elevator. I work in a 4 story building. My office is on the third floor. I park by an entrance that brings you in on the 2nd floor. So I really had no excuse not to. I never once this month got on that elevator in May.

I'm continuing that goal into June, plus I'm adding a salad a day. I really need to add more veggies to my diet. So this is a start.

Lastly, one month ago, my hubby and I adopted a 3 year mixed dog at the Cuyahoga County Kennel. Every night after work we go on 2 mile walk along the lake shore. I thought I would share some sites with you

What a beautiful dog! It reminds me of the border collie I used to have - she had a little bit of white on her chest. Beautiful picture of the lake, it's hard for me to believe it's a lake and not an ocean! So big!

You did a good deed by adopting a doggie and pics are great. I am guessing you live in either Westlake or Brahtenal.

200 Squat Challenge

Monday, May 31, 2010

Today I started the 200 squat challenge. I took the pretest and was able to get 41 out before I lost good form.

According to the directions for the challenge, if you complete more then 35, you start at week 3. Really?!?! So I waited a little while longer and took the test again. The results this time?? Another 41 consecutive squats before I lost form.

So I started with week 3....Five sets - 16, 22, 17, 17, 22...

Maybe I should have gone with my gut and started at week one...lol...

The plan is to do the challenge 3 days a week for 6 weeks. I'll be doing the challenge Monday, Wednesday and Friday and will make it a point to report my results here.

And if anyone wants to join in, here's the link:

Celebrating 95 Years!!

Sunday, May 23, 2010

May 25th marks my Uncle Tony's 95th birthday!! Amazing! He is the only one in my family, maternal or paternal, who has survived that long!!

Uncle Tony is an equally amazing man. But he's also had his down's. He saw his wife of 50+ years lose her battle with cancer and a son lose his battle with diabetes. He is also a cancer survivor.

At 95, he's still active, drives and lives on his own. He's a barber and goes to a local nursing home daily to give haircuts there. He vacations with his family. He's the life of the party and everyone loves it when he's around.

Yesterday, we celebrated his 95th birthday with a grand celebration. His kids, grandkids and great-grandkids got up and told wonderful stories about him. When he got up to thank everyone for helping him celebrate, he ended by saying that he hopes to see everyone that was there at his 100th. And you know what? I have no doubt that we'll be doing that five years from now!!

Here's some photos of our day

Giving his speach - when he told us to be at his 100th!

Thanks for sharing that wonderful birthday celebration! Looking forward to seeing pics from the next one in five years. I'd say his secret is an active lifestyle. Amazing the things he still does and has had to endure! I just loved seeing everyone gathered around him. That's a family full of love!!! emoticon

First 5k under my belt

Saturday, May 15, 2010

Today was a huge day for me. Today I accomplished something that I never thought I would in a million years....well, ok maybe a thousand years.

Today, I ran the Rite Aid Cleveland 5k. My goal was to finish in under 40 minutes and not be the last one across the finish line.

Not only was I not the last one to cross the finish, but I finished in under 40 minutes with a time of 35:45.... emoticon and upon further review of the times, I placed 7th in my age group!!

I also had the pleasure of meeting and running with fellow sparkers Catstance and Cheryld02....and coming out to cheer us on was our great motivator on the team Jan_Frandsen.

It was a great morning all around!! I'm so glad I did and am starting to plan my next one!!
