Just DO it!

Sunday, August 26, 2012

Dialogue with self:

emoticon It's getting late. Go for a jog before it gets dark.
emoticon No. My to-do list is too long and tomorrow's Monday already.
emoticon Get going. You didn't do any exercise yesterday.
emoticon NO!
emoticon Just 30 minutes!
emoticon NO! NO! NO!
emoticon If you feel really wimpy you can even walk it. You know you won't regret it.
emoticon Sigh...

emoticon Just back from a 45-minute jog, a bit over four miles. And I didn't regret it!

exercise streak - one year anniversary!

Monday, April 18, 2011

On April 18, 2010 I started a streak of exercising at least 30 minutes every day. Sometimes I'd be out bicycling, jogging, cross-country skiing. Sometimes I'd be really tired or short on time so all I could manage was a non-sweaty walk, perhaps broken into two 15-minute sessions.
Today is my one-year anniversary of doing this! I did miss one day - January 3 - with a fever and stomach bug. But even though I felt really crummy for several days following, January 3 was the ONLY day I missed - I got right back on track January 4. So I'm giving myself credit for the year. emoticon
Today is the start of year two. I'll be continuing this streak but making an effort to increase the intensity as I can. Walking is fine exercise but it doesn't get my heart rate up as much as some of the other things I do - but if I could get in a short walk and then do 15 minutes of a Jillian Michael workout...

What an AWESOME streak! Try as I may to never miss at least SOME cardio every day invariably there seems to be a day when I'm just so DARNED busy from 6 a.m. till 9 p.m. that I just can't muster a workout that late. I know I get in my own way when I "pooh-pooh" an under 60 min. workout...but hey, it's WAY better than not bothering at ALL!

Cheers to another year added to your streak! Woo hoo!

Congrats to you to have this amazing exercise streak! I'm too tired (it seems) to get back on the exercise track. And I feel that if I can't get to the gym and do "real" exercise, I might as well do none at all. Sick, isn't it? emoticon

broken streaks :-(

Tuesday, January 04, 2011

I've got a stomach bug. Yesterday and today I didn't get my 5+ fruits and veggies. And yesterday, not enough water and NO EXERCISE. I'm most bummed about the exercise - I've had a streak of at least 30 minutes a day since April 18. But even though I still feel crummy today, I'm better than I was yesterday, and i got 30 minutes of walking in. It was broken over two chunks, and much of it was indoors, and it was hard, but I did it. I hate being sick!!! - but getting sick once in a while helps me to appreciate more that truly, I am blessed with excellent health. And at least I'm not throwing up - although my stomach feels like it has a giant balloon in it.
Time for more ginger tea...

'Tis the season, unfortunately...hoping you'll turn this around soon enough!

I probably shouldn't even type this for fear of hexing myself, but thus far for me, no bugs have struck! :-)

biking and walking this week

Sunday, October 31, 2010

Last weekend I was in Hanover, PA, for some biking. Friday and Saturday I enjoyed the rolling hills. Sunday the hills were a bit more like a roller coaster, but I felt like I accomplished something completing 39 miles! And the weather and scenery were wonderful.

Back in Ithaca I went for a walk with a friend...

And yesterday I went to Hammondsport, about an hour from Ithaca.

Tomorrow, back to work after being off for a week!

    Gorgeous as always...!

The more I travel the more I realize what treasures we have in our upstate NY countryside!

I AM looking forward, however, to renting a bike for some seashore cycling in Savannah later this week...woo hoo!

the importance of my exercise streak

Sunday, September 12, 2010

I've been exercising every day for at least 30 minutes since April 18. Sometimes it's just a 30-minute walk, but usually I'll get 45 minutes or more in.
True confession: there are many days when I'd like to just skip the exercise! There are so many other things to do, and sometimes I'm tired (or lazy!) or I'd rather not work up a sweat. Today was another one of those days... But since I have a streak going, I CAN'T QUIT.
At 7pm I decided I couldn't put it off any longer, especially if I wanted to do something outside. I put on my jogging clothes and dragged myself out. I told myself I only had to do 30 minutes. At 7 minutes 30 seconds I told myself I was 25% done. But by then I was thinking, well, maybe I could eke out 45 minutes if I could still see the sidewalk then (between sweaty glasses and the sun going down early that can be a real issue).
So this evening I got in 45 minutes of jogging. And I'm thankful for that exercise streak, because it's what motivates me to get up/out and get going.

    Super deal on your streak!

I've been there, done that, but you know...? It's been a while...I've been lax and had a pep talk with myself tonight to get right back to what I know works!

Streaking gives me POWERFUL motivation...can't break that STREAK! And the danger, for me is that once I HAVE broken it I can become so laissez faire ...what the heck, my streak's been broken so it's no big deal if I skip my workout today, right...? Dangerous and slippery slope! Time for me to get back to what I know WORKS!

Thx for sharing your inspiration to help me kick myself back at it again! :-)
