UGH - where is time going

Tuesday, March 04, 2014

So jeepers, even though I tell myself that I need to get down and make sure I am here, make sure I am getting encouraged, make sure I am reading...I know it does me best, I know it keeps me on track...and yet...

And yet. Well at least I am not gaining. I'm maintaining, and I will take that. This winter has been THE LONGEST WINTER EVER!! I hate it. But at least it's March and I *think* I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, maybe.

So, I want to be easing back into coming here; I joined a forum for the 5:2 plan, but most people who participate there are in the UK...so they are ahead of me in so many hours that their fasting day is over when mine is just starting. I think I am going to try to wake up the Team on here!!

Hitting SparkPeople every day is the only thing that has kept me on track all this time. It's just a daily reminder to do things the right way as much as possible.

It depends on where you are maintaining.

The 5:2 Experiment

Sunday, February 16, 2014

So for the past 2 weeks, I've been doing the 5:2 (well actually 4:3) diet plan. I must say that it's mostly been rather easy. So here is the way it works: on 2 days out of the week, you don't eat anything till dinnertime. That meal should not be more than about 500 cals. Now, to be honest, really, it's supposed to be 500 cals total for the day, so you *could* eat small meals throughout the day, but most ppl just save the cals for dinnertime. During the day, you drink water, teas, broths to get you through.

On the other 5 days, you eat normal. No calorie counting or anything (although most ppl count something: carbs, cals, fat...). What I plan on doing is staying LC for those eat days, and just sticking with veggies and protein on the fast day meal.

It's actually been going pretty good! First week is a lost 2 lbs, second week another pound and I think I would have lost more if I had stuck to LC on my eating days. But I ate things like mashed potatoes and pizza!

It's actually much easier than I thought it would be! The reason I am doing 3 fast days is that typically on the weekends, I never get around to eating anything till about dinnertime anyway, so I figured that logically, it made sense to add in a third fast day.

I am gonna keep going with this and see how far it takes me! Today, being Sunday, is a fast day so I am sipping coffee, water, hot broth, etc. and have some chores to do; taking a break from cleaning at the moment to get caught up on Spark!

Congratulations on your new WOE. Although my weight loss has been slow during my 6 months, and pretty much nonexistent right now, I persevere because it makes me fell well, my skinny jeans fit and allows me to indulge on the non-wellness days without adding pounds. Good luck to you.

This is a good thing to give your digestive system a rest. I think the conventional wisdom out there for 3 meals and 2 snacks is ridiculous. No other culture on earth eat 5 times a day. No wonder we are so fat. Intermittent fast is a good thing. Congrats.

Looks like you have read Dr Mosley's book, The Fast Diet, or have information about it. I lived by it, doing the 4:3 and keeping the days I ate down around 1200 cal. If it's any encouragement to you, I lost 50 pounds while I was doing it. Funny, and here's my aha moment, I have plateaued for three months, which is about how long I have been off of it. Could there be a correlation, I think I am going to pull my book out again and start over. See! You have motivated someone to do something. Thanks!

My friend does that diet and has had great success. Myself, I have to eat something every couple of hours or I will eat everything in the house when I finally do eat.
Good Luck!!!

WooHoo 11 lbs gone!

Saturday, February 08, 2014

OK, so I got brave enough to step on the scale today -- 11 lbs now gone. So not only did I maintain for the rotten month of January, I lost 2 more so far for February! And that was with a nice date night out this week with hubby where I totally over ate and even had dessert, If my knee was in better shape I'd bee hopping up and down and dancing all around!

So, yeah, looks like February is shaping up to be better than January, so far! If I can keep up this rate, I will certainly make it to my goal of 30 lbs lost by my birthday in May!

Off to read my Teams!

I lost a whole month!

Friday, February 07, 2014

Wow, it's been a MONTH since I posted here! The month of January was just an awful awful month for me and my life. I tried my best to stay on track diet wise, just looking at food choices and making "good" ones. But I did not track, and I rarely came here. I ended January with thinking "well if this is how 2014 is gonna go, I hate it already", due to the things going on in life. So what happened?

First, my knee stuff, which I did write about here. Next there was finding out that one of my cats (not even 2 years old yet) had severe kidney failure! OMG, I can't believe this. He spent some time in the vet hospital, and is now on the mend, but he will be needing constant care at home with meds and fluids. We almost lost him, and though we've only had him a year and half, we just couldn't imagine being without our little mischief monkey! I am convinced that had we not brought him to the vet that Friday night, he would have died over the weekend.

He is doing much better now, for which I thank God!

Work has been such a zoo that I come home so fatigued and worn out that I typically end up crashing asleep on the couch after dinner, which is usually my "computer" time. My Fibro is out of control, and the worst hit area for me is my thigh muscles -- I can't stand to have my computer on my lap, so I just sleep on the couch, then wake up, and go upstairs to bed most nights.

I sure hope that February comes out much better than January did! I am going to seriously try to make it here more often, but I can't make promises -- life can just get too crazy! I've maintained my weight, so I am happy for that, and maybe that's the best I can hope for right now!

My Rings are Spinning!

Monday, January 13, 2014

So, ok, one of the first places I really start to notice things is in my fingers...and this morning I have on a wedding set that I have not been able to wear in quite some time. Due to the arthritis, I have several sizes/styles of wedding sets, but I have not been able to wear below an 8 in long, long time. Today's set is a 7, as the 8 was spinning around on my finger like crazy yesterday!!!

As small as it may sound, this a HUGE victory for me!!!! And it gives me such motivation to keep on keepin on! What a good way to start my week. emoticon
