Visiting My Hometown

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

I am visiting my parents in their home. They bought this house in 1957 when they married.

We are talking about my dad's singing group and my mom's tap dancing troupe. Mom also ice skates about 3 times a week. Dad fixes broken lawn mowers and snow blowers.

I guess it comes naturally to me to keep active and have people contact.

A Beautiful Outdoor Saturday

Saturday, January 26, 2013

This afternoon the weather co-operated and I was able to rake the debris out of my garden beds. I had seen my retired neighbour, Tom, bag all sorts of trimmings last weekend so that was my encouragement.

I filled 4 buckets and now the soil under all the shrubs and around the bulbs looks tidy. A lovely side of this activity is that my hair smells of fresh ozone. I love the smells of spring!

I have flower gardens around the perimeter of my house and today I was witness to the appearance of the tiny, white Snowdrops. Those are the first bulbs to blossom where I live. Weeks ago the Primulas made their colourful showing. I have inherited 4 purple Primulas, a yellow and two red ones.

I was pleasantly surprised when I first came out to the coast, that the grocery stores had potted plants out of doors all through January and February. What? Are you kidding?

I've done some grocery shopping, returned some library books due today and washed & dried 2 loads of laundry.

And now... I sit with a much-deserved cup of hot, Earl Grey tea. (not in a favourite china mug) but enjoyable just the same.

Anyone else feel that their Saturday was beautiful or well spent?

Sounds great! I did many chores as well and did a Pilate's workout.

Your weather sounds inspiring. Enjoy!

My Saturday also was satisfying. Bowling practice with friends, laundry, changed bed linens (fresh sheets are one of the world's small pleasures), then cleaned out several bags of junk from a back yard storage shed in preparation for a big yard sale in two weeks. Now a hot shower then those clean sheets. emoticon -- Lou

Imagining My Breakfast

Saturday, January 12, 2013

It's too early right now to start making our breakfast. I can hear my stomach rumble, but I would rather allow my spouse to sleep in, rather than make noise in the kitchen that would rouse him.

I really enjoy oatmeal. I can imagine stirring the cereal in a pot of hot water, breathing in the steam and adding some cinnamon or chunks of apple. I prefer the low-salt, home cooked style of oats. The process of cooking is as enjoyable for me as the eating.
(Would I have said that 2 years ago?)

I have imagined pancakes this morning as an option, but we have a very large bag of mix from Costco that I feel I should use up...
I find the mix salty. The flavour is flat. Even the making of the batter is dull and I really miss 'designing' my own pancakes with new flavours and texture.
Years ago, when I made pancakes for my little girl, she could expect pancakes with sunflower seeds, maybe some walnuts. I invented them with fruit in season and exotic chunks from the bulk store (that were never in season up here.) I used various flours. I got her many flavoured syrups, so that breakfast could be an adventure.

My daughter now says restaurant pancakes are tasteless.

Dry cereal today? Hmmm. In the winter I really have little desire for milk and flakes in a white bowl. Portion distortion is a "biggy" for me with dry cereal. Too many calories can result for the 'too little enjoyment' on the palate.

It is WEEKEND starting today and that can automatically translate into Bacon And Eggs at our house. I'm not that motivated to fry anything this morning so I have already nixed that option today. My blood pressure will be happy without the salty bacon this Saturday.

I think I'll boil up a wee, bonny portion of oatmeal today and enjoy a banana alongside it.

Ahhh, I can go to the kitchen now, as Somebody has woken up.

Think about your next meal. Will you grab-and-go? Will you even taste it?
Imagine the flavour you want, the texture that can dance on your tongue and the feeling of satisfaction in the belly. If you choose wisely, each meal can be a step toward improved health and a half hour of bliss.

I enjoy oatmeal even in sunny FL when it isn't cold.
Also like it with various things added, but my latest kick is chopped dates and then I omit the brown sugar. Love cinnamon and chopped pecans or walnuts over it.
YUM! Guess I know what breakfast will be tomorrow!!!

Glad I had already eaten when reading this blog. My mouth was salivating just reading those beautiful descriptions of oatmeal. Oatmeal is a favorite breakfast food . Love walnuts or raisins in my cinnamon oatmeal. Yum! emoticon

Busy, Satisfying Day

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Whew! Today at work, the hours just flew by. I was making progress in my paperwork, in processing payments and doing some much needed cleaning of our clinic.

Each time I saw a clock, I was pleasantly surprised how the day was going and I was happy with my effort, time and time again.

The morning felt good, the afternoon was better and by the time was trying to close the till I was kind of goofy, proud of the accomplishments. GO Me!!

I stayed a bit late to do just a bit more 'catch up' so that tomorrow the office will be ready for another successful day. I will be having another co-worker alongside to assist in all the work that needs to be done. I'm expecting it to be a busy day tomorrow.

Do you feel satisfied when you give it your best?

Orange Apron

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

Folks, I am wearing a fuschia blouse while modelling the birthday apron. How awful.

I hope the birthday girl won't be wearing pink on the weekend....

As you can see, I have a few more hand stitches to complete tonight. I will then use my iron and press any wrinkles out before I get the gift wrapped up.

Isn't if satisfying to complete a project?
