Day 21

My strategy for Day 21 was to lower the calories in my dinner choice. I would have usually made a chicken breast with egg and bread crumb crust. I used to drizzle with butter as it roasted and wait for everything to become a calorie rich crust.

Instead, I checked the Spark recipes using the words, 'chicken breast'. I changed out the bread crumbs and butter for herbs! The recipe I chose was pan fried, instead of baked, so I'm not guaranteed that the calories were extremely lowered... but the flavour was there and I will bake it next time I use the thyme/ pepper coating again.

I ate half the chicken breast and still used the luncheon plate (instead of a dinner plate) so I'm trying to build on my previous strategies of October.

Smaller dessert too. I ate 3 digestive cookies.
Why am I programmed to want a sweet after my meal? That is going to be a tough change for me.
I think I know what my Day 22 strategy will be. I must curb the sweet tooth.

    Wasn't dessert part of our dinners when we were growing up? Maybe that's part of the reason we crave them so much. But, everything in moderation. If those cookies didn't put you over your calorie limit for the day, then don't worry about it and enjoy them. That's my thought. Meanwhile, keep up the good effort. -- Lou

I try to have frozen fruit with some yogurt, but when it's cooler outside, I want a cookie or brownie-ish treat...

Day 20

I spent a day with a girlfriend who wavers in and out the dark regions of depression. I got her out of her housecoat and into 'outdoor' clothes. We took a trip to Michael's to look at paint brushes and canvases. She didn't want to buy anything, but it was a positive foray into the neighbourhood.

Did I wear my pedometer? Nope. I just tried to balance my sit-down hobbies and some get-up-and-go activities.

The grass got cut. Laundry washed and dried... even got put away!!

I made a healthy salmon dinner, acorn squash and green beans on the side. We invited our neighbour over to share the meal. I just knew the excursion would exhaust her too much to make a healthy choice. She loved the company and we got a charge out of watching her take on more calories than she usually does. :)

Oh, did I mention that yesterday had been grocery shopping day? That's why I had inspiration in the kitchen last night.

I treated myself to a video evening to do knitting until bedtime. I love watching the campy fairy tale, The Princess Bride. Who couldn't love a farmer boy who keeps saying, "As you wish"!!!???

    Great blog to comment on. Nice of you to care for your troubled girlfriend. Hope she is able to rise above what troubles her. Great dinner you shared. Love that Princess Bride. Day 19

My restaurant meal was a success! I did divide the dinner into halfs: ate one, brought the other home.

Today I will be doing housework to keep active. The lawn needs its last cut of the season, 2 loads of laundry, vacuuming and whatever else looks 'needing to be done'.
I have walked my morning route and breakfast was within a healthy quota.

Day 18

Today I was surprised to be asked out for dinner. I am usually concerned about restaurant portions and the habit I have to try to empty my plate.

Ever notice how easy it is to talk and enjoy the people at the table? All too often I concentrate less on the quantity of food because people are speaking to me. My strategy was to divide the meal in half. As delicious as it was, I was able to save half the meal for my lunch the next day!

I feel triumphant! I really can do it if I put my mind to it!
