I strapped on the pedometer again and walked around a neighbourhood trail. I took a green garbage bag inside a plastic trash can which bungee-d it to a collapsable dolley.
I wear gardening gloves, a brimmed hat and good footwear! I AM the Litter-Picker-Upper!
My steps added up to 1,037 and I was only out on the trail for 25 minutes or so. But, I was able to completely fill (stuff, pushed down, cram) that plastic trash bin. I estimate it as a 20 gallon can.
I got out in the sunshine to do some activity and do a little neighbourly act. Luckily I returned home just before there was trash pick up today!
I am often embarrassed by my untidy surroundings. That litter will start accumulating tomorrow and the next day... it is a disgusting, irresponsible habit. I sometimes feel as if I am one against 200 others.
I am still enjoying my supper on a luncheon plate for portion control too.

This is a long weekend for Canadians. We are celebrating the harvest and Thanksgiving.
Think about it... we have to bring the crops in sooner than the states before the snows hit. (Sorry Winnipeg. You got snow yesterday.)
I don't have the pedometer on today. Instead, I got on the bicycle and peddled 20 minutes south of my house and marvelled at all the autumn colours. The leaves are a 'given' but I saw beautiful blue, red and orange berries throughout the trek. Some of the ferns were already turning burgundy. The sun and temperature has been lovely all day.
I should get on the bike more often. It was a fun way to be active.

Sunday was busy enough to be a blur.
I was making a family favourite cake for a Birthday Boy. I got out to visit a neighbour and she wanted to talk and walk. That was OK with me.
When I was home again I prepped for a Thanksgiving dinner that I hostessed. Everything came together like I cooked Thanksgiving all the time.
The birthday cake was a hit. I watched my portion control and decided not to wear the pedometer for the day.
Before I went to bed, I filled our crock pot with steel cut oats, a mix of quinoa flakes, a tablespoon of barley, some leftover grouts and some apple slices from a neighbour's tree. I threw in 2 dried apricots, a prune, a chunk of papaya (dried) and 3 tablespoons of cinnamon. In went 5 cups of water and I set it on low.
We had hot cereal for a frosty morning!

Here is the first weekend of this month. I went out with my neighbour, Shirley, and we did our little walk to McDonalds to have a tea. Then we walked back home. I remembered my pedometer and continued wearing it all through the day.
I helped do some leaf and pine needle raking and later, I got a few more groceries into the house for our Thanksgiving this Monday.
My step count was the best yet! 9310 steps, working out to 3.8 miles and 264 calories burned due to the activity.
Today I was asked if I wanted an ice cream cone because our weather was so unseasonably warm. My strategy today was to decline and explain that I'm walking to get in better shape. I didn't want to sabotage the effort with empty calories.
That decision was healthy for both of us!

I'm getting caught up with my daily blog. That phone call threw my schedule into a tizzy last night.
So, today, my pedometer is reading 1745 steps
The distance for my stride length = 0.71 miles
The calorie burn for the day's walking..... (drum roll please) 49.4 calories.
With tomorrow being Saturday, my step count and activity level can only increase, right?
Today I failed in coming up with an original strategy for my October program. Day 5 was a happy day at work, but doing the company banking and picking up the mail etc. just doesn't add up to a huge amount of calorie burning activity.
I am not going to dispair over my lack of imagination. I plan on moving forward!!!
