Yesterday was an exhausting day at work. I didn't think I had any energy left to start my activity plan. (sigh)
We had some dinner and went out for an evening walk. The night air was cool and the moon was beautiful. The weather was warmer than you might imagine. The walk was perhaps 15 minutes long. I realize that isn't much of a beginning.
When we got back home, I asked if an unused pedometer could be set up so that I may be inspired to keep on going. (I had given this as a Christmas gift because I had always wanted one.) Now it has my weight, my stride length, and it will play my favourite radio station!
Later last night, when Dancing With The Stars was on TV, I started to count steps to the beat of the dancers' tunes! There were a lot of quick step dances, so I kept moving about.
My day 1 results on the pedometer include: 1417 steps, I walked .58 of a mile and used up 40.1 calories. That was from 9 p.m. to bedtime.
I can't wait for my Tuesday, Day 2 results!

Welcome October! As I face a new month, I have decided that I need to kick things up a notch. All my activities are chair-based.... I work in front of a computer, I am sitting down typing this, I drive a car to and from work, I sit and read and I am in a chair while I sew or knit.
That is a lot of sitting.
I want to challenge myself to try 31 different things throughout this month to get out of the chairs and back on my feet. I want to move it, move it!
Stay tuned to see what ideas develop into activity during October.

When I start to design a project, I can feel myself getting excited. I'd rather plan than sleep. It's near midnight and here I am thinking of ways to use up yarn.
On the internet, I've seen some beautiful afghans, both knitted and crocheted that are made up from leftover yarns in myriad colours. I feel satisfaction in using 'stuff' that has been stored and having a craft to do... PLUS having a wooly blanket to ward off the chill of an upcoming winter.
My stash of yarn is a mishmash. Lots of labels are missing and I have a variety of weights and textures to use up. Luckily, I have some lovely autumn tones that just beg to be knit together. It will be a cornucopia of seasonal shades!
I had to laugh at myself when I was laying out the variety of colours.... you would think I was a foodie:
I have a gorgeous "persimmon", cashew beige, pumpkin pie, clove, 2 balls of caramel and one still labelled is called Creamsicle! Two balls of yarn are a warm tangerine. YUMMY!
I may have to pick up a few balls of extra yarn to make a useful sized project. Any flavours I should look for?
There will be some rows of garter stitch, several rows of knit only, rows of pearl only, moss stitch, ribbed rows and maybe I'll throw in lacey holes if the afghan needs
some more texture and interest. See why I'm not sleeping? I'm designing.
When I see those upcoming fall colours in the leaves and flowers, I'll be thinking, "There's a tone that I haven't added to my lap blanket!"

Today I seemed full of ideas. Maybe it was because I went to the market yesterday, but whatever it was, lunch components really came together for me.
I cut the bottom off 2 red peppers and filled them with cottage cheese and added lots of black pepper! I loved the colour.
I added two little carrot sticks on each of our plates.
Next, I placed 3 Wheat Thins crackers and topped them with a crumb of gorganzola cheese.
There was some space left on the plate... hmmmm, let's see. Oh, there was some celery that needed to be used up. I spread the last of our Boursin Shallot and Chive cheese into the well of the celery. (OK, enough with the cheese, Karen)
I found some puffed rice cakes in the back of the pantry. I lightly spread a little peanut butter on top. Protein much?
The piece de resistance was some avocado. I know many of you don't like these green gems, but for a Labour Day Lunch Adventure, I was pulling out all the stops. I cut, then twisted open the avocado. Popped out that big seed and saw another indentation.... what to fill that with?
Avocado is so delicate a flavour, it would have been easy to trounce all over it's wonderfullness. (Is that a word?) I arranged 3 little Tiny Tim Tomatoes in the avocado for a bit more delicious colour.
The placemats were red and so were the patio tumblers. I blended a tangerine into juice and added it to some Fresca. The orange tones were gorgeous!! (I am not generally a drinker of soda, so let's call this a treat for the long weekend.)
When my spouse came to the patio table for lunch, he remarked on the variety of colours. THAT'S how beautiful the lunch arrangement was today.
... we devoured the evidence and had a lovely noontime repast!

Tonight, to kick off the long weekend, two lovely things happened: we went out for a bite of supper and two handmade oak sconces were installed in our dining room.
We went out for dinner because we celebrated moving into this house three years ago today. How the time flies!
Also, Sweetie has been working on two holders to fasten on the wall that now hold tea lights. We bought an extra two globes that match our dining room fixture so the sconces match the existing "chandelier".
I like that the wood stain matches the table. I think the little room is really coming together.
Next thing you know, I'll have to invite the neighbours over to ooooh and aaaah over our crafty woodworker's completed project!
Candle light is so nice when folks are eating!
