Two Days Off Ahead for ME!

Sunday, May 15, 2011

My last five days at work were busy and pretty much enjoyable. I like the folks that I work with in the office or clinic.

Mondays and Tuesdays are my days off and I have ten things on my To Do list.

Do you do that to yourself too?

I don't want to forget anything that needs to get done, but it looks a bit overwhelming at this point.

What are you up to?

Questions About Past, Present & Future

Tuesday, May 03, 2011

Often I get emails from my sister about 50 Questions About Me. She fills in the blanks and then asks me to fill in the answers and send them back... and invite ten others to do the quiz.

Well, I'm writing one for myself and a lonely, aimless friend. I want her to examine her strengths and favourite passtimes. Why be retired if all you do is waste time?

I didn't write fifty, so it should be a breeze....

Q & A

I enjoyed reading your answers but am too lazy to answer them myself. The books that have stayed with me the longest is, after the Bible, of course, are the Jonathan Livingston Seagull books and Kahil Gibran's book, The Prophet.

Writing A Memorial Note

Monday, May 02, 2011

Last week, my ex's mother died. She was a loving mother and a devoted wife. Being mostly human, she could drive her kids crazy... but being mostly angelic too, she was a darling, down-to-earth loving lady.

I thought of my daughter spending a first Mother's Day without her granny and I also was aware that my ex-husband would be particularly crushed at this time. All I could do, I thought, was to pen a memorial note and mail it inside my sympathy card.

The memories came easily and the words filled 3 pages in no time. I smiled at the thoughts being shared and I misted up often at the bittersweet actions I was writing about.

I won't be flying cross country to attend the funeral if there is to be one.

I feel better about getting some words on a page so that I could think and remember a nice lady. I hope that my contribution will minimize the grief and perhaps add a smile to J & L's day when the note arrives.

May O. you will be greatly missed!

Any Sewing Machine Enthusiasts Out There?

Monday, April 18, 2011

Oh dear. I have a broken sewing machine.
emoticon

I've been driving a Husqvarna #1 1200 for almost ten years. I can't believe it's been that long-- time flies by when I'm stitching.

Last night the bobbin tension went all kaflooey. I removed the bobbin case and two pieces of metal disintegrated in my fingers.
(insert the sound of heart-break here)

Bobbins are easy to replace. Bobbin cases are not.
Ten year old bobbin cases are more rare. I'm trying not to get theatrical here. I'll save the drama for when I email my momma.
(sigh)

I just phoned a dealership that services "Huskies" and he wants to see the case and broken spring to see that we order the correct piece... if we still can order the correct piece.

This week, I would have been piecing the last 16 blocks of a Log Cabin Patchwork top but it seems as if my quilt top project will be derailed for a few days (?) a week (?) or -- gasp-- until I borrow a sewing machine from a neighbour. I'm so distraught that I am typing run on sentences.

This sewing machine has been a reliable work horse for me. It just goes, and goes and goes. But today I think I'm in shock and disbelief. I'm going through sewing withdrawal.

I have a singer thats older than yours and still sews, but I prfer my work horse (because even though it broke the first month I bought it, was too much troble to send it back, (the tension wires broke off when I threaded it!) It still works! Sometimes its cheaper to just break down and buy a new sewing machine. Singers been my Favorite most of my life but I also have a White and a newer Husqvarna (cant remember the number, and I am too lazy to go upstairs to check the model numbers,) but its been my back up if my White goes!

Plus I also have an embroidery machine (Ellure) . I want a newer sewing machine that is specifically for Quilting!

Sorry to hear yours broke, but happy that you were able to get the part you needed. Its a rarity! But some machines never change (Thank G*D!) Hope your able to finis your projects! Still working on many! susana

I love sewing and just made a cloth book for ggs. I have a singer Dh got me 50 years ago and love it. DD took hers in for repair and was told hers was plastic and parts wear out while mine is metal and reliable. I guess I should look out for a duplicate machine or parts so in case DH has to fix it.

I can pick it up tomorrow.

I have a VERY old electric sewing machine upon which I have put many miles. I was able to get parts from Sears parts online, and from ebay, but I don't have the links anymore. But it's amazing that SOMEWHERE there will be a schematic of your machine, most like, with the parts numbered.

It may be that there is another machine that is the same basically but under a different name. Sure wish you the best in locating what you need.
