Chocolate Fest

Thursday, February 09, 2012

I went to Chocolate Fest tonight with my sister, it's a fundraiser to support the local Sexual Assault Centre. We had so much fun and this year they gave out to-go containers so I could bring my treats home instead of eating them all and feeling unwell from over eating (calories and carbs). I feel so glad I know my blood sugar is stable ... and yet we had SUCH a good time emoticon

My favourite so far was the raspberry chocolate, from the same place with the chili chocolates. I tried those mushroom-shaped macaroons (so good!), and had a dark chocolate straw and I split a lava cake and a mini cupcake with my mom while we were there, plus of course I had to put some strawberries into the chocolate fountain. :)
At home I've got a white chocolate & strawberry tartlette waiting, a chili chocolate, the red bean/chocolate 'pancake', a couple of chocolate cookies, and a mini fudge brownie. I figure I can spread them out one little treat at a time over the next week and make the night last!

Yes! My fav is the chocolate & red bean paste from Shoji (Japanese) and my sister and I also REALLY liked the Spelt brownies (near the milk/water station). I also loved the beanermonkey truffles and the Cincinnati chilli from Weil's of Westdale. We shared the macroons and they were wonderfully light and fluffy!

Was that the one in Hamilton? Because I was there too - or this is an incredible coincidence because I was at a chocolate fest fundraiser for a sexual assault center tonight as well!

I loved the take out containers; I took home more than I ate. The selection was rather overwhelming. What a huge display of the chocolatier's art! And very tasty, too; all you needed was a small piece. I loved the live music and the chocolate fountain and the chocolate mint rooibos tea... :) I went with my mom and met friends there and had a great time.

Glad your sugar is stable! As for me, I think I did very well in taking the time to enjoy some treats there without going overboard or stuffing myself. And I have lots of lovely treats in the fridge to savour over the whole week now too. (I bet you do too!)

Successful Presentation

Wednesday, February 08, 2012

My budget presentation today went exceptionally well. They even complimented us on the submission. I am soo incredibly delighted - it has been many hours of work and revisions.

Food plans for this week

Monday, February 06, 2012

Note to self:

1. I will make a bean-beef chilli to freeze for emergency dinners in Feb/March.

2. I am going to make Chef Meg's slow cooker lasagna on Sunday afternoon (it's a 4 hour cook).

3. I need to plan meals for Wed, Thurs & Fri this week. Our delicious pork pitas only lasted two days but wow they are good!

I know I would find it boring, but I remember my grandmother used to always cook the same meal on the same day each week...like every Friday, when I went to visit, it was pork chop day....

Here's a couple of ideas. I always cook the ground beef/pork when I buy it. Then I freeze it and it is available for quick spaghetti diners, tacos, nachos etc. I make a goulash type meal that has macaroni, then hamburg, can tomatoes, peas and mushrooms and corn.... Makes a lot, so you can freeze it for meals....

DD made a recipe (I think it was even from SP) for a pulled pork in the slow cooker...I think it was just a can of root beer (of diet root beer) and some BBQ sauce....and was it ever good....

Another chicken meal we make that lasts a few days is a BBQ dinner from grocery store.... Day 1: use the chicken for a meal, Day 2: cut up some of the chicken and make a chicken fried rice with it, Day 3: cut up the rest of the chicken into small pieces, and add into a "Cool Chick Salad" - using parsley as the green, onion, corn niblets, black beans, cumin, lime juice and olive oil as the dressing.... Day 4: cook up the rest of the chicken for soup..

Joys for today

Monday, February 06, 2012

... many. There were many. The biggest one for me was to write Coach Jen about possibly being a Team Leader on one of the forums. It's something I have thought about, but not had the gumption. I feel happy about having written - regardless of the outcome.
