Oh no! I've gained weight!

Sunday, February 08, 2009

I just discovered that I've gained 20 lbs since November. It's more than likely due to quitting smoking and not being able to get up and do much from back surgery. I've also been eating alot during the day since I am at home all the time now. I know I will drop some of the weight when I return to work in maybe April, but It's just hard to stay positive when you are gaining weight. I'm so uncomfortable in my body.

The good thing is I can walk and should walk so I hope that by watching every little thing I put into my mouth and walk, stretch and swim, I should shed a few of those very unwanted pounds.

I just really needed to vent and this is the place I chose to do it.

If you have some suggestions of what I can do to help out, would be appreciated.

I am starting aquatic physical therapy on February 9th and have full access to the YMCA so I am sure there are lots of things there that I can do without hurting myself.

One Love

Logging my food has been huge for me. Not logging = terrible food choices, for me at least. I had a heinous food weekend. Oh-and if you like chocolate minty goodness, I would highly recommend Dark Chocolate Dipped Altoids. Only 15 calories for two, and it really helps me in a pinch with a monster chocolate craving. Totally delish!

Good luck recovering from your back surgery, and have fun with the journey. I think the journey is just as important as the results! Oh, and congratulations on quitting smoking, that's an amazing accomplishment! emoticon

    Thanks KDVADER3,

It's hard not to gain weight when you are at home all the time. I am going to try to walk more. I can't seem to STOP eating junk food. That's all I want. I am so uncomfortabe!

Thanks for the encouragement!

I hear you on the weight gain after a back surgery. I gained probably 25 lbs after my 2nd surgery, so I hope that makes you feel a tad better. It has a lot to do with feeling blue while you recover... I wanted nothing but crappy food and it showed on the scale. Getting the walking in every day (sometimes a few times a day) will certainly help you, as will the pool exercise. It is awesome you quit smoking. Not only will that help speed up the fusion, but it is great for your body all around. Keep it up. Vent to me if you need to... Im here for ya! PS.. the corn dog and the sundae made me hungry.. lol!

((((( HUGS )))))) Byker! I had gained 20 pounds after doing well on weight watchers over the holidays! You don't have to work until APRIL and that is PLENTY of time to lose that weight and YOU CAN DO IT! Log on spark everyday. Read, post, comment, participate, LOG IN ALL CALORIES eaten! This has what has helped me the most! Exercise 10 min a day, 3 x a week, whatever your back will allow. I am here for ya!

Blossom :-)

Yuck! That must be depressing.
Get back to it, treat yourself with love and life and you'll be moving that 20 pounds of visitors off and away again.

I'm Recovering From Back Surgery

Thursday, January 22, 2009

Well, I made it through back surgery. I'm 2 weeks post-op and feel really good! I'm almost ready to start back here and lose some weight. I've learned to "Respect my Back!" It was a very hard first week out of the hospital. My pain wasn't under control, I was vomitting and wanted to just die. Somehow I pulled though. My surgeon said yesterday that I am going to be the New Poster Child! LOL

I attached a picture of what my back looks like now. Although you can't see the bone graph areas, the bone fusions or even the 2 cages. The Cages are made out of a Plastic composite that will last my lifetime.

I can't wait to try out my Bone Growth Stimulator....

Peace out emoticon

Be back in the Spring!

Friday, January 02, 2009

The time has come to have back surgery. I am so scared and filled with anxiety. I don't like pain and I'm not that strong of a person to work hard at anything and if I want to walk and get better, I have no choice but to work hard at it and be patient. This is going to be very hard for me to go through this recovery alone. Well, I won't exactly be 'alone', but nobody can do this BUT me.

Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers.

My mom had 3 back surgeries. I've had a hip replaced. Yup, I can relate to this....
Be gentle with yourself, and do what they tell you to do.
I was SO good at exercising my new hip when I had the morphine drip---- tee hee.
Spooky, aint' it?

Broken Back!??!

Friday, October 10, 2008

I just found out why my back has been hurting more than usually for the past year. I have a broken back which caused my spine to shift forward. Also the disc at the base of my spine is gone.

Looks like I am going to undergo back surgery within the next month or so. I am very unhappy about this. I don't even remember causing any trama to my back.

Just thought I would share.

Hey, bud. Have you heard anything more about your surgery? A coworker is having surgery on 4 discs today, and that made me think of you. I know having surgery is scary and discouraging... but at least it is a positive step toward resolving the problem.
*hugs*

Hang in there and get yourself fixed up. Sometimes our body just wears out over time so we just have to get it back on track (this coming from the bionic woman..haha). Sorry you are in pain but hopefully that will settle down soon. emoticon

Hey, sorry to hear about your condition. I had back surgery in June 2008, what a difference it has made in my life. I have been off work for over a year and am hoping to get back soon. Just take it easy after the surgery, do everything the Dr. tells you to do and not to do. Lifting every day things will be the hardest thing to grasp. I was told to not lift anything heavier than a can of soup at first. This was the biggest challenge, remembering to not pick up something like I did in the past. I wish you the best of luck on your surgery. Take it from me the weight loss does help the back issues. Good luck on your journey.

Holy crap! Yes, this would cause a bit more pain... what a bummer.
Take care of you. Remember, we all fall down, it will be easier to get up a bit thinner than you were. Be easy.

Late Night Eating

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

I work 2nd shift and eat dinner at 7pm at work. By the time I come home at midnight, I am hungry again. As the saying goes...not to eat after 6pm doesn't apply. This is a real big problem.

I guess I'll come home and eat fruit or something healthy. I just started this weight lose thing and am already running into problems.

Any advice out there?

If you are hungry eat. Just don't eat a box of oreos. Try fruit or a salad. Something light.

What the clock says doesn't matter that much- you eat dinner at your own dinner time and like that. Just think GMT!
Are you doing the 1st step? Don't try to leap large buildings yet- follow each step. Try the eating 5-6 times a day, 2 or 3 healthy snacks.
Is being alone the trigger for stuffing? Maybe make sure to put out the right portion, and then step away from the kitchen! you can do it....
Thanks for the add! emoticon
Gotta eat... eat right.
