We must hunger after them...

While it looks like I won't reach my original goal of 175 lbs by Christmas (because this ISN'T The Biggest Loser) I have a lot to be proud of and thankful for in 2010, and it's not even over yet. Reaching a number, and whatever is attached to that number, isn't worth losing one's soul or destroying our temples. Whenever I see a Sparker that has lost 90 or more lbs in a year (ELYMWX is a great example) I am truly happy for them. I also know that every Sparker has their own path to walk and that this journey is unique to all who have the courage to step on the path to a healthier self. I am on the path and will stay on the path because it's not a question of if I'll reach my goal but when. We CAN do this! emoticon Sparkers: now, in 2011 and beyond.

Congratulations on all of your weight loss and fitness success!!! You have stayed the course and stuck with it and that is something to be so very proud of yourself for!!!     So am I to assume you are doing the Galloping Gobbler?? Hubs is doing it! I haven't decided if me and the kids will be there at the finish line or not (depends on the weather).
Are you going to do the 10K? I am pretty excited but I can't imagine 10,000 + people being on the roads!

Meant to post this earlier but just like the race: glad I'm getting it done.

This was my 1st official race and was glad that I was able to accomplish the goal I set out for myself way back in June when I began my Couch to 5K (C25K) training by running all 4 miles Non-Stop! The real reason I'm proud of that more than the time is because during all my training I never actually ever ran 4 miles. I think the longest I ran was 33 or 35 minutes at 2.8 miles. So standing here,

I was just a little nervous. But some part of me knew that if I kept putting one foot in front of the other I would eventually see that finish line. Warmed up and stretched while the "Rocky" theme played over the loudspeakers. Then came some inspiring words from the MC, Mayor Tom Henry and the National Anthem sung by Voices of Unity Choir (just back from the Olympics). Next was the horn, I think, and we were off!

I knew the adrenaline was pumping because I was running not jogging. Had to force myself to slow down and fall into pace. The local PD and the National Guard were both on hand for traffic control and monitoring the race course. With lots of local people lining the course cheering us on, some in costume, it was easy to forget about the heavy breathing and pains and just run. It was a great day for running but even greater when I found myself here on the last stretch rounding the outfield of Parkview Field!

After a sprint down Ewing St into the stadium it was a slow jog in the reddish dirt but like they say all good things...(I'm in the green on the left)

Kroger and a bunch of great volunteers handing out finisher's medals, collecting time chips and doling out the much needed post race carbs. There was plenty of room to cheer on other walkers and runners as they too neared the end.

After being a part of it I can see why it has grown and sold out every single year.
emoticon to everyone who started and finished. A big emoticon to the City of Fort Wayne and all the agencies and volunteers that gave time and resources to making this event truly memorable! Still a little sore but definitely looking forward to doing it again in 2011! emoticon

    Awesome!! I really love the prep work and that you don't have to run all of it before the race, but then you push yourself when you get there. Doing a race is also good, all those people are a distraction and they're pushing you along! I dig them. Great work! Best, E

    That is just too cool! I am hoping to be able to be running by this time next year, first I have to lose about 25 more lbs so I can have a knee replacement done. Then, look out!!
