Loving Myself Challenge: Day 17

Happy Super Bowl SUNDAY everyone!!!!

I'm going to get my 5 things out of the way EARLY today!

1. I got more than 8 hours of sleep... MUCH needed!
2. I heard an amazing SERMON this morning... Really was much needed food for my soul!
3. I fed my body with a delicious homemade breakfast. Ate reasonable amounts. :)
4. I've been wearing my Fitbit and drinking my water
5. I got 1.5 hours of exercise... Turbo Jam AND Pilates :-)

Bonus- I'm making Buffalo Chicken dip and going to secretly reduce the calories without anyone knowing! Then, I'll have at least ONE healthy-ish thing to eat at the Super Bowl party. PLUS I've planned for this and will record what I eat.

TMI warning: TOM(time of month) is here and I feel bloated, but I'm pushing through and looking forward to my weigh in next week!

Loving Myself Challenge: Day 16

Saturday, February 02, 2013


1. Took a much needed nap!
2. Got the results back that I did GREAT on my yearly national resident exam.
3. Got a workout in... at 10 pm. Had to stop a few times, not completely back to 100% BUT... I got it in, and I'm proud.
4. Wore my pedometer all day
5. Drank a lot of water :)

OK. Day 16 is done... This 21 day challenge is speeding by! Thank you to ALL of my Sparkfriends who have either JOINED me on this challenge or who stop by to read about my triumphs and set backs. I APPRECIATE YOU! Thanks :-D

    Thanks Fitgirl! You're right can't out exercise a bad diet... But my program gives points for fitness that can be exchanged for food... So be that as it may... I try to get them in :-) and in the meanwhile I am.working on better eating habits!

    I ate 2 slices of pizza after I'd met my dietary goals. Smh. I then, did 40 mina of exercise to try to get some balance.... So, not a perfect day. Just trying to move forward.

I lost it with my eating tonight after too many conflicts at home.

Loving Myself Challenge: Day 14 ...and 15!

Hey guys... Still pushing :-)

1. walked 15,000 steps
2. drank plenty water
3. Controlled my coffee intake
4. Only ate 1/2 of my FREE burrito ( threw the rest of the tortilla away)
5. Did strength training exercises!


1. Went to dinner and ordered Salmon, broccoli, mashed potatoes. Only ate half!
2. Ate all my dessert (small brownie sundae) counted the cals, logged it, AND enjoyed every bite!
3. Stregth exercises
4. Spent time with a friend after work
5. Drank plenty water.

I am becoming more compassionate towards myself. :-) I actually heard myself say aloud "Sure, I have plenty flaws... just like everyone else. I guess it depends what you are looking for. If you want to find something wrong with me, you'll find it. But, if you want to find something positive... I have many positive traits too! Just depends on what you're looking to find." I've never said that aloud before... but you know what it's TRUE!

I am amazing. YOU are amazing. Do we mess up? Do we offend others sometimes accidentally? SURE! But, I bet if someone were actually trying to see the good in you, they would see PLENTY!

Keep smiling, and love yourself! I'm really learning that there is more good to me than bad. :)

    I love this post! I'm going to think about the "there is more good to me than bad" - it seems so simple and true when you put it that way, but I still second-guess myself sometimes. Glad to hear you're taking care of business :)

Loving Myself Challenge: Day 13

Hey guys! I was productive today!

1. Treated myself to dinner and ordered Salmon and ate 1/2 my meal and shared the appetizer
2. Did a workout video STRENGTH for the first time in a long time
3. Came home and did a MID DAY workout when I could have just taken a nap
4. Made an effort to only drink ONE cup of coffee. The rest was tea and water
5. Watching bible study online since the real bible study was cancelled due to inclement weather/ flash flood warning

Well, I'm happy with my day! I hope you all have a great day! Hope you treated yourself nicely... and continue to do so! Loving Myself Challenge: Day 12

Had some technical difficulties and for some reason was unable to open the blog to write it.

But, here we go. :) So far, this challenge has taught me that I have a tendency to be hard on myself and expect perfection. I try not to... but I really don't like not following the rules OR doing things that are the opposite of my goal. I have always had the philosophy that it's important not to "give up the things I want MOST for the things I want NOW." But some how occasionally I feel like I'm giving up what I want in the long run for a quick thrill.

I also am learning that I do NOT have to be perfect and that an occasional high calorie treat and/or meal don't equal my demise. I read an article that basically said as soon as you get off track, get back on track. If we fell down a few stairs would we say 'that's it, I've screwed up I may as well throw myself down the rest of the stairs"? No, we get back up... dust ourselves off and walk more carefully down the rest of the stairs. If we miss our exit on the highway should we continue driving for HOURS in the wrong direction OR do we get off on the next exit and turn around as quickly as we can...

I think we should treat weight loss that way. Get up as quickly as we can from our missteps and QUICKLY get back on the right path.

So... this challenge to LOVE MYSELF is making me have more compassion for myself. The same compassion I would give others who were having a hard time. I would tell them, "You can do this! Don't give up, don't get discouraged. Each step you take is getting you a little closer to your goal. A year from now you will be happy you started and NEVER GAVE UP. " and that's exactly what I am going to tell myself :)

So, here are my 5 things from Day 12
1. I tracked my foods- honestly
2. I wore my pedometer and walked the long way to get extra steps
3. I made an effort to get my water in
4. I went to bed early because I was tired and had a long/hard day (slept 10 hours)
5. I consciously chose to let a stressful situation go instead of ruminating over it when it was out of my control.

OK, I'll post later tonight about my day 13. I hope you are all doing well and maybe learning more ways to love yourself! :)

    I LOVE your falling down the stairs comparison. I must say, from your last blog I was a bit concerned that you were a perfectionist. You mentioned something about getting in 430 minutes of exercise when you went over your calories. I thought WHAT??? I love your list of 5. Great job. I too have to catch myself sometimes and ask, would I talk to a friend that way, No... I would be totally supportive. Now it comes more naturally.

    Firstly, I love what you wrote about being kind to yourself and learning to love yourself. I'm really trying to do the same. I expect perfection from myself too and then beat myself up every time I make a small mistake. And then, I make the small mistake a big mistake and let it get out of control! In fact, for the past 3 months that is all I've done and I'm up 13 pounds as a result! Hating myself thin is definitely not working at all. It's time to learn to love myself thin with compassion and ease.

So your 5 things are awesome - cooking, tracking, sleeping a lot, and also not letting stress get the better of you! Bravo!

My five things:

1. I worked out.
2. Yesterday I ate each meal very slowly and mindfully.
3. I was there for my husband during his chemo.
4. I stayed active on SP.
5. I listened to a bunch of weight loss podcasts.
