Loving Myself Challenge: Day 12

Had some technical difficulties and for some reason was unable to open the blog to write it.

But, here we go. :) So far, this challenge has taught me that I have a tendency to be hard on myself and expect perfection. I try not to... but I really don't like not following the rules OR doing things that are the opposite of my goal. I have always had the philosophy that it's important not to "give up the things I want MOST for the things I want NOW." But some how occasionally I feel like I'm giving up what I want in the long run for a quick thrill.

I also am learning that I do NOT have to be perfect and that an occasional high calorie treat and/or meal don't equal my demise. I read an article that basically said as soon as you get off track, get back on track. If we fell down a few stairs would we say 'that's it, I've screwed up I may as well throw myself down the rest of the stairs"? No, we get back up... dust ourselves off and walk more carefully down the rest of the stairs. If we miss our exit on the highway should we continue driving for HOURS in the wrong direction OR do we get off on the next exit and turn around as quickly as we can...

I think we should treat weight loss that way. Get up as quickly as we can from our missteps and QUICKLY get back on the right path.

So... this challenge to LOVE MYSELF is making me have more compassion for myself. The same compassion I would give others who were having a hard time. I would tell them, "You can do this! Don't give up, don't get discouraged. Each step you take is getting you a little closer to your goal. A year from now you will be happy you started and NEVER GAVE UP. " and that's exactly what I am going to tell myself :)

So, here are my 5 things from Day 12
1. I tracked my foods- honestly
2. I wore my pedometer and walked the long way to get extra steps
3. I made an effort to get my water in
4. I went to bed early because I was tired and had a long/hard day (slept 10 hours)
5. I consciously chose to let a stressful situation go instead of ruminating over it when it was out of my control.

OK, I'll post later tonight about my day 13. I hope you are all doing well and maybe learning more ways to love yourself! :)

    I LOVE your falling down the stairs comparison. I must say, from your last blog I was a bit concerned that you were a perfectionist. You mentioned something about getting in 430 minutes of exercise when you went over your calories. I thought WHAT??? I love your list of 5. Great job. I too have to catch myself sometimes and ask, would I talk to a friend that way, No... I would be totally supportive. Now it comes more naturally.

    Firstly, I love what you wrote about being kind to yourself and learning to love yourself. I'm really trying to do the same. I expect perfection from myself too and then beat myself up every time I make a small mistake. And then, I make the small mistake a big mistake and let it get out of control! In fact, for the past 3 months that is all I've done and I'm up 13 pounds as a result! Hating myself thin is definitely not working at all. It's time to learn to love myself thin with compassion and ease.

So your 5 things are awesome - cooking, tracking, sleeping a lot, and also not letting stress get the better of you! Bravo!

My five things:

1. I worked out.
2. Yesterday I ate each meal very slowly and mindfully.
3. I was there for my husband during his chemo.
4. I stayed active on SP.
5. I listened to a bunch of weight loss podcasts.

Loving Myself Challenge: Day 11

Monday, January 28, 2013

It's Monday and I am back in the swing of things! I am back to logging my foods and trying to make sure I stay within my goals.

I am also making an effort to read more articles that promote weight loss and give me tips.

1. I read 2 articles today about strategies for weight loss
2. I tracked my foods
3. I took a nap when I had a migraine today... I really needed it.
4. I'm working on my water intake... about to go drink a glass now!
5. Walked on the treadmill for > 30 mins.

Thing to work on:

The eating system I am using does not use basic calories... so I need to be very careful to count them before I eat to make sure I am within my limits.
*If I go over, I will make sure I AT LEAST do 430 mins of exercise that day.
The next day, I will START over brand new.
Will eat 3 fruit/veggies tomorrow.

I'm going to work on staying within the limits/goals THIS WEEK! I want to see a loss of AT LEAST 2 pounds! :)

**I did an hour workout and got my 10,000+ steps in (11,000 something actually) and ate broccoli and an orange.

Today...well, I binged, but here are good things I did too...

1. I worked out this morning.
2. I had a phone session with an eating disorders coach and got some good strategies.
3. I made healthy veggies.
4. I got onto SP even after binging to own up to it.
5. I set out my workout gear for tomorrow.

Loving Myself Challenge: Days 7,8,9,10 with Pics :)

Loving Myself Challenge continues!! [...and never stopped ;-) ]

1. I'm proud that I made time to go on a date during the week. He and I get along very well and always have a good time.
2. I went on a girls trip and we went skiing!! We had a GREAT time and were active the whole weekend.
3. I tried something new, took a few falls, got up and tried again... and in the end had a BLAST SKIING!!!!
4. I ate relatively well and did not pig out or unnecessarily over do it.
5. I got back home and made a HEALTHY broccoli and turkey sausage stir fry, with cabbage. Back on my healthy eating plan immediately!

I added a few pictures so you guys can see me on my Skis! I feel happy and proud that I tried something new and was active this weekend. I'm about to go workout again. Then, I'll finish up some work and head to bed! I'm exhausted!

    Too cool. Skiing is a great workout. Great job on not overdoing with the food. I am sure it would be easy to do so on a weekend with friends.

1. I've had two days on track and am feeling more motivated to stay on track.
2. I prepared tons of healthy foods for the week.
3. I got up early to do yoga and jog.
4. I tracked everything on Spark.
5. I helped my husband who has been feeling really awful from chemo.

Loving Myself Challenge: Day 6

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

At work and super busy... .so quickly,

1. I chose not to get (TOO) upset when I was treated unfairly today. I chose self-love and forgiveness (of the IDIOT) instead of dwelling on what's fair and staying mad all day.

2. Wore my pedometer all day! Still walking, sure I'll be more than 10,000+ steps.

3. I chose HEALTHY foods that fit within my plan and even mde room for a small fry :) (see I'm not perfect!)

4. I scheduled a much needed doctor's appointment.

5. I made my bed and washed dishes before I left home!

Okk, gotta go guys! Hope you are all doing well. I found a few minutes to squeeze this in... hope you did too! You are worth it!

    Great job and thank you for the very supportive comments on my page. I so appreciate what you said!

Here are my five for today:

1. Woke early to get a great workout in! (elliptical, jogging, weights, abs)
2. Made and brought very healthy, delicious foods with me to work.
3. Took care of rescheduling many doctor's appointments for my daughter (now that my husband is getting chemo life is much more complicated).
4. Taking some down time where I can find it instead of making myself busy constantly.
5. Meditated and journaled when I got up.

    I love how you chose to forgive (the idiot) and not let it make you dwell on it! It is so much easier on the soul to let it go.

I walked my dog again in the beautiful, warm sun for an hour and then came home to use my stair steppers again.

I too made a doctor's appointment:)

I called another friend today who has been quite down on herself lately. She needed to be told she was loved.

I got down on my hands and knees and cleaned baseboards and climbed on a ladder and cleaned the window frames.

I took Greek yogurt and made a chocolate pudding out of it with unsweetened cocoa and some blue agave. To me it tasted better than the real chocolate pudding!

I hope all have a wonderful evening and a fantastic day tomorrow!!

Loving Myself Challenge: Day 5

I'm so sleepy guys!

I think I'm going to call it a night pretty early... I'm on call again tomorrow (24 hour shift).

OK, so here we go. :) Today was a VERY productive day for me. I made sure to keep a list and had already checked off my 5 things before 8 am! lol :-D But anyway, I'll try to pick the best ones.

1. I woke up on my FIRST alarm and decided not to keep snoozing for 35 minutes like I sometimes do! emoticon emoticon
2. Because I didn't go back to sleep... I was able to make a DELICIOUS breakfast.
3. I also did an AM workout... Didn't finish the whole thing because I was multi-tasking and had to finish cooking and etc.
4. I got some errands done during work when I had a break!
5. I ate the food I planned to eat today, packed my lunch, and stuck to my plan.

and... I'm having a planned homemade brownie sundae for dessert. :)

OK, Hope you all had a good day! If I weren't so sleepy, I'd write a bunch more... but I'm tired! lol

So I will say, Continue finding the good wherever you can. Even when we mess up we deserve a pat on the back... we are ALL doing the BEST we can (at this given moment)

MANDELOVICH - I'm sorry to hear about your husband... but you are SUCH a strong woman and I am REALLY proud that you are taking the time to take care of yourself in this tough situation. You are really doing the best thing for HIM and yourself. You can not give what you don't have... give yourself strength and health and you can give it to your hubby as well. 5 things today:

Day 15 of consistently filling in my fitness and nutrition diary

I acted like an adult and wrote a long letter to someone who seems to be disappointed with me and is ignoring me. I am going to continue to write about positive things.

I talked on the phone for a few hours with a very elderly man from my church who is very lonely and his family has nothing to do with him. I just let him go back in time to happier days. He was so appreciative with someone paying attention to him.

I got on the scale at 7:30am and lost 4lbs 14 ounces. I did not reward myself with food but got my exercise clothes on and walked my dog, Jake for 5 miles and then did my stair masters for an hour.

Today my husband got chemo and it was really rough. I ended my day binging in Sloan Kettering - the stress and fear really got to me.

But here are five good things...

I woke early to exercise
I brought healthy foods with me to take to his treatment
I walked 15K steps
I helped my husband through a very scary and difficult day
I got things ready so I can eat more on track tomorrow.
