Setting Goals: 3 month window

The air is crisp. The green leaves on a tree in my backyard have started to turn red... and that means, summer is gone. Autumn is here. 2012 has gone by pretty quickly in my mind. Maybe it's because residency keeps me busy. Either way, if you have any goals you'd like to reach before 2013 hits... the time to get serious is NOW.

I took some time this weekend to recuperate. I decided to be a bit introspective and write down what was important to me. I try to do this regularly because it is so easy to let the busy-ness of life consume you and you look up and 5 months have passed and you have not accomplished what you set out to accomplish. And, it doesn't really matter how passionate you were about it. You have to MAKE and KEEP it a priority.

Have you taken the time re-examine your goals and make them plain? Have you tried to realistically decide what you could accomplish in the remaining 3.5 months of 2012?

I've made personal, business, and fitness goals for the next 3 months. I made about 2 for each category and some overlap. :)

Here's to the rest of the year!!! I don't want to bring in 2013 conquering the SAME giants I tried to battle in 2012.

Well, I was SOOO very sick this week. I could barely swallow and felt horrible most days. I haven't been that sick in a while. Even missed 2 days of work. Luckily I got another antibiotic and am starting to feel a little better! I walked on an incline on my treadmill on Thursday and that was great. Rested friday because I had no energy and was on backup call. This morning I did some yoga and that felt amazing!

So I'm taking it pretty easy and focusing on eating healthy foods within my limit and I'll increase the cardio when I can. I need to let my body heal... this has been a rough week.

Hope you all had a GREAT week. I'm gonna do my best to enjoy this beautiful weekend!
ETA: I got on the treadmill at 10 and walked for an hour. I walked not jogged but used an incline. I sat around most of the day and just wanted to be active. So I did. I feel great.

HMM.... so is this the secret?

Maybe this was the secret ALL ALONG. Do it whether you feel like doing it or not. I was watching the #DNC and decided that I could watch Bill Clinton JUST as well from my spin bike. Thanks to the DNC and my spin bike I burned 550 unexpected calories!

Just like that!

OH, and I stayed within my calories again today! :-) I'm on a role. GOing to focus more on my eating than workouts (because I know I love those and will get them in most days just for how they make me feel. I think the battle will be in my food choices.)

They are trying to make Obama out to be such a failed President yet I read this list the other day how the Republicans in the Congress have blocked every issue he has wanted to pass and how they have done it to get re-elected but it has hurt the American people so much these last 4 years. Experiment: Tired, sleepy, and don't want to work out.

Today was a GOOD day, If I do say so myself.

I slept ~ 8 hours woke up and decided to do a QUICK morning workout. I did 17 mins and burned 170 cals. Did 10 mins on treadmill 7 on the spin bike (in my home gym-that I love dearly) and then quickly showered and got ready for work.

At work, I saw lots of patients but remained in good spirits and energy. I had the mental wherewithal to remember tasks that needed to be done AND got them done on time. :) And EVEN finished my day at 5 pm... which is a rarity as a doctor in residency.

And then my experiment began. I had dance class at 6:30. I LOVE this dance class. The issue is, after work I am EXHAUSTED. No matter how great the day is, it takes a LOT of energy to go through the day and empathetically listen and solve the problems of others. A big part of me wanted to just skip dance. I mean, I had already done an am workout, and while brief... it was EFFECTIVE.

So, I openly challenged myself: Go to the dance class. Go eventhough you don't want to go (and eventhough you know you have an amazing time every time you go.) Go even while tired. Go while there is no place I'd rather be than in my BED. Just GO. Get it done and see how you feel. [ SN: I have to tell you I cheated a bit, I know for a fact that I ALWAYS feel better after working out] I wanted to prove to myself that I love working out so much that even on a horribly exhausting day when my bed is begging me to come home, I will still feel better and more full of energy after a workout.


DRUM ROLL PLEASE:



MY EXPERIMENT WAS A SUCCESS! I absolutely am FULL OF ENERGY. My mind is clear. My stress from work is gone. I feel happy and hopeful. I still get to go to bed in 3 hours but now I may actually get something done instead of dragging about moping that work is gonna be here in the am before I know it. ;)


Note to self: Workout whether you want to or not. Workout because you KNOW you love it and you always feel better after you do. :)

BONUS: I burned 1325 calories... in ADDITION to my am cals! :-D

    LOL!! Yep I'm one of "those"! lol but I still skip my morning workouts sometimes... and that's how I KNOW that it makes a big difference in my moods (for ME). Everyone is different but at the least I'm starting the day off with a few extra cals burned and potentially eaten!

    I had to "just do it" this morning, repeating that phrase before I started. Once I began, I had to chant, "I can do this." I tried to stop early, but my DH wouldn't let me. God bless my dear husband. I'm so glad I walked my full 2 miles. I feel terrific about it. I would have felt very bad if I had quit at 1 1/2 miles.

So.. today is a FAT DAY for me.

I didn't realize it until a few hours ago. But I feel fat today... and I especially feel fat for tomorrow. lol. I know that makes no sense but basically I'm seeing an old friend tomorrow. And by old friend, I mean my college sweetheart who I haven't seen since 2007. TOM is here and I'm so bloated. I know if it was a week before or a week later I'd be feeling fine. I mean, I'm working out just about every day,Trying to eat better, drinking water and yet I realize... no matter how great I look tomorrow, I WON'T be the same size I was in college! :( I'm still at least 20 lbs heavier on a GOOD day and today is a BAD day. SIGH.

How is it that though I am trying every day, there still happen to be events when I'm feeling HUGE at the last minute. Oh well. I've got to make the best of it. Maybe I'll wake up feeling magically thinner tomorrow or at least less bloated. He's seen pictures of me and I feel like I look nice but I guess TOM has me feeling a bit off today.

    Thank you all for the support. TOM= my time of the month . He is gone and im less bloated and emotional! The reunion was great and he was just as handsome as i remembered. He happened to think i looked amazing and had no complaints! :-)

    When I have days like that, I really try to make healthier choices. I focus on eating TONS of veggies, and drinking lots of water... it helps counteract the feeling a bit, and leaves me feeling a bit better than if I overdosed on all the things I know will leave me even more bloated than I already do!
