Update

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

Well, I was feeling like I needed to do something about where I was headed! I have a pretty small frame so any weight gain is noticeble and I thought I was getting a bit "chubby"...and then some of my clothes were getting a bit tight, especially the spring clothes that I had from last year. I kept telling myself that is was because of my fibroids and that my waist was getting bigger becasuse these little suckers were growing. The I got on the scale and realized that, unless they grew to be 8 pounds bigger I was headed down the slippery slope...I joined weight watchers and have been doing great (the only problem now is that a lot of my clothes are now TOO BIG!!) I have lost a total of 16 pounds and could stop now (but since I turn 50 in a few months, I want to try and see if my metabolism will allow me to get to where I was when I was 30)!!

Another thing that is pretty great is that this "race season" I have been racking up some personal best records!!! I ran my fastest 5k shaving 1 1/2 minutes off my fastest time from last year. I shaved over a minute off the 5k with all the hills that I struggled with last year and took 23 minutes of my fastest half marathon time (in a race that was more than 50% uphill running). I have one more 5k in May (my goal for this one is to shave time off my fastest time). I have a half marathon in September and I would like to take at least 10 minutes off my time, but anything better than the last one is good in my books!!

After that I think I may get my bunions fixed and then all I have to say is WATCH OUT...who knows what my times will be next year:-)

I'm just starting to get into this racing stuff. I raced in the Hyner Challenge for the first time.

General Ramblings

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Well, it looks like my time here in my apartment is coming to an end. I will be moving back home to my house and my old life. The job is almost over and maybe I can get my old life back, I will see my friends, spend time with family, get to come home to my puppy every night...and most importantly work out in my old gym. A negative is that my yoga instructor at home decided to end the class I used to go to. I will miss my yoga classes up here!!! The other negative is that I have so become used to urban living and absolutely love being able to walk EVERYWHERE! I can park my car and leave it there for a week at a time depending on where I need to be for work. I walk to the gym, the grocery store (added bonus is I get to carry the bags home...what an arm workout), work, just to sight see or shop at the mall. I can put 2-6 miles of walking in on a daily basis...added bonus I would say!!

I leave for vacation on Thursday..Key Largo here I come. This has been one of the longest, dreariest, gray, cold, wet winter of my life. I am used to heading to Florida in February, I didn't get to go this year so I think that made it longer, there was no break!

I have been on Weight Watchers for two months and have dropped about 10 (I really just wanted to get rid of the last few pounds that I have been fighting for the last few years). I really want to get rid of more than the last few, my goal by 50 is to be where I was when I was 25:-)

I am going away for my 50th. I am going to Napa and Sonoma. Two of my friends were just diagnosed with breast cancer...life is too short to not live it to the fullest!!! I want to enjoy it while I can!!

I actually ran my 9 miles this past weekend...it was my long run before the 1/2 marathon in April. I did it in decent time so if I stay healthy and keep on pace I should finish in about 25 minutes less time than my last one. I have two 5k races before the 1/2...my goal is have better time for those than the last one I ran...I am slow, but I don't care. I run MY race, no one else's race. I am competitive but mostly with myself not others.

Well, I rambled enough for the night!!! Thanks for listening!!

Tracking...

Sunday, February 24, 2013

Well, I was looking at my Fitness Minutes here on Spark. It is not the truth. I was slacking for quite a while tracking my food and fitness here on SP. It started to catch up with me and I needed some extra help. I joined WW. I am actually tracking there, all my food and my fitness.

Trying to track in both places is too hard. I just didn't want all of my SP friends to think I have given up on my quest for a healthy life. Right now, just needed a change!

I still check in and spin the wheel. Post here on the Blogosphere and read articles.

Who cares WHERE you are tracking, what is important is to find the tools and support you may need to live a healthy life!
You might want to take away that fitness minutes trackeron your Spark page and all. In any case this is YOUR journey and don't worry about what others might think.
Congratulations on your results so far!

Not Dublin, but...

Thursday, February 14, 2013

Well, I have made a ton of decisions since I was last here!!!

The first one is that I decided not to go to Dublin in August for my 50th. I am going to actually go to Sonoma and Napa, I can use my FF miles and Marriott reward points for the travel so I can use all of my money for wine tours and spa services!!!

I will be going to Key Largo at the end of March. Although I have not "packed on the pounds" this winder I felt like I needed to lose a few pounds. I joined WW online and I have lost four pounds in two weeks. I can tell in most body parts (hips, chest and believe it or not my wrists) The bigger problem; however, is the fact that my stomach is huge, it looks like I am 5 months pregnant because of the fiborids. I really want this whole menopause to kick in ASAP becuase no matter how much I lose, I will never feel or even look "skinny" in a bathing suit...

I got my hair cut (about three or four inches...I figure that was good for an ounce or two:-) Actaully, I decided that the longer hair made me LOOK 50 so now I feel like I look 40:-)

I entered all my races: I have a 5k April 13, a 5k April 20 and a 1/2 marathon April 28. I will a few weeks of and then will run another 5k on May 19. I think that will be it until the next 1/2 in September...registering early gives me something to work toward. Three miles is coming easy, I will be trying to extend to the 5 mile point this weekend. I will practice yoga Sunday morning and then head to the gym to jump on the treadmill for the five miles....or more if I can stand the monotony of the treadmill. I cannot wait for warmer weather so I can get outside!!!

Well, Happy Valentine Day to everyone!!

Dublin or Not?

Monday, January 07, 2013

So the big question today is should I commit to the 1/2 marathon in Dublin or not? I turn 50 in August and I was talking to my friend who I usually run the 1/2 marathons with. She suggested I look for a destination race to run for my B-Day. Now, I am half Irish and have always wanted to go to Ireland. When we found this race she though it would be a good idea. Well, here is the rub...

First of all, I have NEVER run a 1/2 by myself and I would be doing so in Dublin. Second, I would be traveling by myself. Then there is the whole thing about me hating running in the rain and what are the chances it will be raining on race day?

So, my question to you is..Dublin or Not?

Go! I've never been to Dublin, but it sounds wonderful! And think of all the people you'll meet!!!! (I've travelled alone and now with DH, and there are definitely things about travelling alone that I kind of miss.)
