Better Late than Never

Sunday, January 29, 2012

Holy cow, I can't believe it's been over four years since I posted a blog. So much has happened in that time. I suppose the biggest reason I haven't posted is because of work. I was promoted to Director of Golf for the resort where I work, and it keeps me pretty darn busy. I just don't feel like doing much by the time I get home in the evening.

I've never been a person who gets stressed about much. Stress doesn't accomplish anything (other than death). With that stress came some unhealthy habits and a little extra weight. I've put on about 20 pounds over the last few years and need to get back to "fighting weight". I'm still nowhere near the weight I was in 2004, but I'm nowhere near as healthy as I was four years ago.

I don't believe in "New Year's Resolutions", but I do believe in making changes in my life. Denise and I joined a gym and we're exercising more. I also bought a blood pressure machine so I can track some healthy goals other than weight loss. I'm hoping that 2012 will re-energize my healthy lifestyle goals!

Hope you are doing well on your quest.....you might try to stick in some rowing a couple of times a week....awesome workout that uses LOTS of muscles..
I have been aiming for the 10,000 steps per day (I started at less than 1,000 per day last june) and now that I am fairly regularly hitting the goal (not perfect yet LOL) I am adding in some variation...stairs, rowing and eliptical. (Weights also 2x per week) I have noticed a change in body (not weight loss per se) since I have added the rowing...I need to buy new jeans mine are getting REALLY loose LOL. Great fun too!!

Life Is Good

Thursday, November 08, 2007

Well, we've been in Missouri for over 3 months now and I figured it was time to post a little update. Things here are fantastic. I'm enjoying my new job, and Denise is absolutely loving working full time for SparkPeople. If we had stayed in Santa Cruz we never could have afforded her to leave First American. We really couldn't have asked for much more out of such a major change in our life.

While we are definitely having to adjust to the fall/winter weather, it is so great to have 4 actual seasons. I loved living in California and really miss some things about Santa Cruz. All-in-all life is just great right now.

Based on your before and after pic alone , you look amazing. I'm 41 weighed 406lb my last Dr. visit. My Dr. suggested I try SPARK PEOPLE. He told me if I track everything I put in my mouth I will be less likely to eat things I shouldn't. I posted my Membership Card and Pledge above my computer at work. I look at it and read it constantly. I have to do this for myself. Eat to live not live to eat. emoticon

So happy for the two of you. Wonderful success story.

It's great how your journey in life took you in this direction. I believe it's a "law of the universe," that when you give of yourself to others, it comes back double to you.

Best wishes and enjoy Missouri. We vacationed once in Bronson and loved the beauty of the area.

WOW!! You guys are really an inspiration. I am new to the whole sparkle thing, but am plugging along. It is reassuring to know that others have succeeded with using SP. Kudos to both of you. You both look so fabulous and healthy!!

The best season is winter MATT, just wait for that snow! You should move up to Canada, boy it's freezing up here during the winter.

That is the one thing I miss about living in the Midwest, I love the seasons. In Oregon we get fall, and I love that, but then it just seems to stay fall until spring lol

Glad everything is working out for you with your move!

TaeKwonDo National Championship

Friday, July 06, 2007

We finally got home this afternoon, I'm very tired. It was a fantastic week and I had a lot of fun, but I'm glad to be home!

I was a little disappointed when my Master Instructor scratched me out of the Fighting Competition. At most tournaments forms are done first, then fighting. But for some strange reason they had fighting first this year. My instructor didn't want me to risk hurting my foot any more than it already is, so she pulled me out of fighting. It was a bummer too, because we watched my division and figured I probably would have won it. But I was the smallest one in the "heavyweight" division and probably would have been hurt.

The good news....I actually won the Gold in the forms competition. So in hind site, it's great that she pulled me out of the fighting. Had I fought I know I would have hurt my foot for sure. If my foot was worse I'm sure my form wouldn't have been as good. Soooo......she definitely knew what she was doing when she pulled me out of there. Now I'm the National Champion in my division!

    Hi Matt!

My name is Leah. I am new to SP. Your wife, Denise, answered a question I had about recording recipes and so I checked out her SparkPage and then yours. Your blog regarding Tae Kwon Do caught my attention because I was in Tae Kwon Do about 10 years ago and loved it!! I was 3 belts away from my black belt! One of my weight loss incentives from my husband is Tae Kwon Do lessons once I loose 30 lbs! I can't wait! Please wish me luck!

Thanks!

Leah

Congrads. on your Gold for forms. It's funny how the instructors know what they are doing, but @ that time you don't understand why??? That happened
@ class a couple of time before.

BIG News

Saturday, June 30, 2007

Man-o-man is life moving fast these days!

1) We're leaving for TKD Nationals this weekend, wish us luck!

2) And much bigger news....we're moving! I've been offered a Head Professional position at a resort course in Missouri. We'll be leaving here in 3 weeks. While it's very exciting, it's just as scary to think we have to get everything ready to go in 3 weeks, especially when we're gone next week for tkd. I'll post more later.

The extra bonus is, I'm off 4 days straight from work!!

TaeKwonDo National Championship

I'm stoked!!!! We're going to Nationals so I've been trying to raise some sponsor money to help pay for the expenses. In just two days I've been able to raise over $400! I love the members at the golf course, they are soooo generous. I don't know if I'll be able to raise all the money we need, but we're off to a good start. :)
