We have moved out of our urban retreat and are now on Vancouver Island visiting our daughter and her family. I spent most of this morning and yesterday washing windows, floors, scrubbing bathrooms, etc. to leave the place in good order for our friends who are returning from Hawaii. We had a wonderful 2 months in Vancouver on False Creek surrounded by mountains, high rises and boat and vehicle traffic. We had many wonderful walks along the seawall, excursions into downtown and explored many of the city's cultural areas. Chinatown was a favourite and we got to experience the Chinese new Year and hail in the Year of the Dragon. Coming from a rural community in the interior of British Columbia we weren't sure how we would adapt to city living but we took to it like ducks to water. We can't believe how fast the time went. We walked pretty much every day along the seawall and there was always something interesting to see and do. The whole area of False Creek and Yale Town is a beehive of activity with walkers, joggers, bikes, moms pushing baby strollers, rollerbladers and everything in between. We had Granville Market immediately across from us which we accessed by taking the aquabuses. We went to Little Italy on Commercial Drive for Italian food, a fantastic sushi restaurant in Kerrisdale, an Indian restaurant in Squamish and enjoyed Chinese food such as Dim Sum in Richmond and other Chinese fare in Chinatown. And of course we feasted on succulent seafood as only Vancouver can serve it up. Last night we shared a Creme Brule for our last supper at Monk's Oyster Bar. I know you're thinking "how many pounds did you gain?". Actually I lost weight. With all the walking and flitting about, some swimming, and strength training and yoga thrown in I managed to expend more calories than I took in. I blogged earlier on that I had purchased new jeans in a smaller size. So I'm feeling good all over. Tomorrow morning is weigh in day so wish me well. I'm not worried about it - I'm here with the granddaughters and there will be lots of activity to be had in the week ahead. Happy Sparking to all! And Bon Appetit!
