Really nice aha moment...

Friday, May 20, 2011

I am currently visiting my sister and into my second week away from home....I read a book today that is called "The Four Agreements" - A Toltec Wisdom Collection.... I decided to write down the Four Agreements - the short version on the inside of the book cover....

1. BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2. DON'T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.

3. DON'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement you can completely transform your life.

4. ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST
Your best is going to change from moment to moment, it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstances, simply do your best and you will avoid self-judgement, self-abuse and regret .

Wanted to share this - I think its excellent and I have decided and agreed that this is what I am currently going to implement in my life....

I would just love it - if - you read this and also know of some self help resources - to share those with me.....

Love to everyone in Spark....

Thank you for sharing this. You always hope this is how you see and communicate things, but sometimes a gentle reminder is helpful.

"The Scales"...

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

Ok, went to the doc today and every time I do - I usually get a chance to weigh myself in the room - before doc comes in...

I quickly took off my jacket and sweater (what is it with this weather lol) to get my weighing done in secrecy...lol

Well my weight on the doc's scale registers about 6 pounds higher - grrrrrrrr
Since I have been home this has kinda bummed me out - (didn't tell doc either) which I think is hilarious because he hasn't even noticed what I have lost so far (27 lbs). I don't really care that he hasn't noticed...he usually is facing the computer when asking me questions anyway --- don't get me wrong - I think he is a good doctor...but I am losing this weight for me ...not to get attention.....

Back to that scale number again.....more grrrr....I have to still learn not to measure my success by the numbers....but , but , but ...o crap no butsssssss

Today....

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Boy I am struggling today..... I don't want to do my workout.....I keep procrastinating....

I have had to change up my workout routines several times since I started Spark. I still find that I don't have much left after I do it and I keep reading over and over how so many people have extra energy after they work out. I haven't yet experienced this so I decided to do my cardio tape first and my strength training tape right after so at least the days in between I don't have to push myself to work out.

I started this journey to be truthful to show my two sisters - whom I love dearly - that losing weight and being fit can be done the healthy way....and decided that I would show them by example....

I now realize that I am also doing it for myself, just as much....I so want to be able to say its possible - all you have to do is make up your mind to do it..... but the doing it...... well its really tough sometimes lol....

I watch all of the weight loss shows on tv - Biggest Loser, Heavy, Last 10 pounds, skinny vs fat... I am on Spark every moment I can be.... I read and read and read the articles on Spark....I am spending a ton of time to help me change my mind set to make this weight loss journey be a lifestyle change rather than a diet....

I am proud of what I have accomplished - a total of 25 lbs since I started...but I also realize that all of the other times I lost weight - I usually quit at this point....and its never, ever taken me this long ...or has it ever been as tough...
This only tells me that my age is now also getting in the way....

O well - it was good to get this off my chest.... I will do my work out.... my goal is to be able to walk the golf course this summer rather than rent a cart every time we go....I haven't been able to do this since my back surgery in 1998....

Yes it helps to see spark as a lfestyle and not a diet. I am no good at following diets where you only eat whats listed. I dont even follow the spark menu when tracking my food but use it as a quide line. People will ask me are you on a diet or something and I say no I am just eating healthier and if I can I tell them about spark people. Congrats on your weight loss and I sure hope you dont quit because I know you can make it all the way. emoticon emoticon

Head Space...

Sunday, March 27, 2011

The first thing I want to say is that I am thrilled quite a few of my Spark friends responded to the no blogging blog.... The support is just so wonderful - and I am thrilled if maybe - just maybe - I helped them get back to being as active as they can be here - This is for us..

I was thinking today that I have been on this weight loss journey for six months now. I found myself once again thinking about how things would change when I reached my goal....this to me is a very dangerous head space... this realization was like a light bulb turning on.....

I am finally realizing that things won't change that much. I may be allowed a few more calories a day - but not eneough that I can eat and drink anywhere close to what I was eating/drinking. I will still have to due portion control, I will still have to exercise, I will still have to make constant "better" choices....

I am hoping that one day I won't be thinking so much about it tho. I guess that will happen when I have sustained the weight for a good stretch of time....

I am really thinking about what I say to myself and my Head Space....I am saying affirmations now that are positive and supportive - like I would say to my best friends....I still catch myself saying and or thinking in the wrong direction and when I do I am trying to figure out how/why I say this to myself...

I thought at this stage of my life I pretty much had most things figured out... now that is just laughable to me....I have a ton to learn and want my head space to be much happier......

    Hi Sis
My journey is longer but you have been very inspirational to me. I know that these changes will make a difference and lengthen our lives. More importantly, our lives will be happier and not full of effort and feeling sick or overwhelmed and tired all the time. When I return to work in September of 2013 I want to be at my goal or close to it. Then I will be where you are. Then I will depend on you to motivate me then.

Maintenance is challenging, and different things work for different people. What works for me is keep my calories in the lower half of my maintenance range most days of the week. Pretty much all my breakfasts, most of my lunches, and maybe dinner 5/7 nights per week are what I ate when I was trying to lose weight. And I keep up the same healthy habits in terms of snacks - fuelling myself with things like fruit and nuts during the day.

I don't have a big sweet tooth (it's not nonexistent, it's just not a big one), so I'm not tempted on a day to day basis to eat cookies, cake, ice cream etc. I AM tempted on a daily basis to eat things like tortilla chips, so I try to limit that to once a week or so.

My favourite indulgence is to go out for a nice meal, and to be able to enjoy eating interesting food when I travel, so I "save" some room in my overall weekly calorie totals to be able to go out for great meals and not think at all about calories. I do watch portion size - in other words I don't eat past the point of feeling comfortably full. But other than that I don't fuss about it. That's what works for me, and I've maintained for almost 11 months now. But, as I said, everyone is different.

You certainly got me blogging again, so thanks for that.

Funny, I was just thinking how unpleasant I find it to measure and count everything I eat. Life was so much easier when I just ate until I couldn't anymore. But then, that's what got me into trouble in the first place. Good to know it's not just me and that it doesn't have to stop the progress.
