Another Pound Bites the Dust - revisited!!

Saturday, February 20, 2010

So I was a little inspired, got this song in my head and decided to do a little rewrite. I sing the reprise every time I step on the scale.

Another Pound Bites the Dust

Lyrics re-purposed From Queens' "Another One Bites the Dust"
emoticon
Ooh, let's Spark
SparkGuy turns on his computer screen
With his head held way up high
Ain't no sound but the sound of the keys
Sparkers' fingers ready to fly

Are you ready, hey, are you ready for this
Are you setting a goal benchmark?
Out of SparkTeams support mails rip
To the sound of the Spark - yeah
emoticon emoticon emoticon
Another pound bites the dust
Another pound bites the dust
And another one gone and another one gone
Another pound bites the dust, YAY!
Hey, we're gonna get fit too
Another pound bites the dust

How do you think we're gonna get along
Without fat when it's gone
We're working on getting healthier now
And kick the fat out of the town

Are you fitter? Are you working out?
Did you give that blog a good remark?
Out of SparkTeams support mails rip
To the sound of the Spark
Spark on!
emoticon emoticon emoticon
Another pound bites the dust
Another pound bites the dust
And another one gone and another one gone
Another pound bites the dust, YAY!
Hey, we're gonna get fit too
Another pound bites the dust

YAY!
Oh lose it
Bites the dust - bite the dust yay!
Hey
Another pound bites the dust
Another pound bites the dust, no ow
Another pound bites the dust, heck yeah
Another pound bites the dust, Yaay
Ooh Spark on!

There are plenty of ways we can help a SparkFriend
And help them reach their goals
You can Message
You can Goodie
You can hold them up and help them
When they're down, Yeah
But we're ready, YES we're ready to Spark
we're running right around the park
Out of the SparkTeams support mails rip
To the sound of the Spark
Oh yeah
emoticon emoticon emoticon
Another pound bites the dust
Another pound bites the dust
And another one gone and another one gone
Another pound bites the dust, YAY!
Hey, we're gonna get fit too
Another pound bites the dust
Spark on!
Hey, alright!

I have to eat more?? Really?

Friday, February 19, 2010

Okay, this is freaking me out. I was initially supposed to eat 1,400 cals daily. Then I started working out a little and I was supposed to go up to 1,510 a day. And then I up my workout and the system wants me to eat even more??? 1,630 seems like SO much food. I will do it... I will make my minimums.

It just seems that if I work out to burn 300 - 400 calories, I should not have to EAT 1,000 more calories. It just freaks me out that I'm trying to lose weight and this crazy program keeps telling me to eat more food. I know, I know the body needs food like a car needs gas to run.

Must trust the Spark!! emoticon

    GolfChick

I too cannot believe it. I corrected my cardio minutes and yes my calorie intake went up.

But I also noticed that now that I am choosing better foods and drinking water, I am getting full quicker and believe it or notI was having trouble hitting my #'s.

I know I have to eat to fuel my body in order to workout, but wow what a difference from before SP to now.

Thanks emoticon emoticon

    I work two jobs.

During the week where I sit most of the time (even though I hit the gym after work) I try to eat at the lower end of my calories.

On the weekend I am on my feet lifting heavy boxes - bending up and down for 8 hours each day. THEN I let myself eat at the higher end. I still hit the gym after work.

And some days you are just hungrier!!! I like the space the nutrition tracker gives me just in case I want a little something extra during the day.

Keep tracking!! :)

"only" half a pound! Why am I working so hard???

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

So, I up my workouts to doing Wii for about 30 minutes (plus silly games) and doing the 28 day challenge on EA Sports Active, and walking 2 1/2+ miles on my 'rest' days. This change is from pretty much sitting on my behind all day. Oh yeah, and I was on the low end of my calorie range for a whole week. So why is it I only lose half a pound in a week???

Because it was also a couple of handfulls! When I bought 2 new pair of jeans just before Christmas, they fit my like a (nice curvy) glove. Now, I get a handful of fabric off both cheeks. WOO HOO! As much as I hated going up one size, I'm gonna LOVE going down one!

Sometimes the proof is not in the scales, not in the lbs or kgs, ladies and gentlemen! Sometimes, it's in the handfulls!!

Thanks for reminding me it's not always about the pounds.

Definitely true! I'm down from an 18 to a 16 when I thought my progress was really slow. Not so much!

At the end of the day it's other things, not the weight, that people notice....

Good for you for noticing the other changes. It's not just about the weight, even though a half a pound at a time can be frustrating. Although, as I have been told by others, "So, do you want it back?" LOL. NOt even!

Great job! emoticon

I hear ya!! We tend to concentrate on the "pounds" lost and not on the other ways to measure our loss. I track both inches and pounds. WAY TO GO. You should be proud!!!

With a little help from my friends...

Friday, February 12, 2010

It's been a long difficult week. I lost a very dear friend. He was only 40 years old. Healthy, worked out, played sports, didn't drink, NEVER did drugs. He was kind, giving, loving person who would never hurt a fly (I watched him carry a spider outside the house once!). It's hard enough on we, who knew and loved Oleg to lose him. He also just brought his mother over from Ukraine, was married a few years ago and had a 2 1/2 year old beautiful baby girl.

With a little help from my friends, in person and online, I will get through this. With a little help from my friends, we will teach little Sasha what a special man her father was. With a little help from my friends, we will remember Oleg and live to be better people, to take care of each other and our selves.

Thanks to SparkPeople for being there when what I really wanted to do was bury my head in a pint of Ben and Jerry's, for getting me to drag my a$$ out of bed in the morning and work out when I really just wanted to drag my blankie over my head and hide.

With a little help from my friends is the way to deal with stress, duress and loss...

I lost a son in 2003. I pray and talk to him every morning.

All of my friends became a support group and helped me from losing my mind. I don't know how I could have made it through that time without them.

Celebrate his life and share the good times and what a good man he was with those who cared about him.

Jerry

Thanks for sharing. And keep the spark! So nice that you are going to help Sasha know about the spark her dad was, too.

Take care.

No more tomorrows

Monday, February 08, 2010

Who would you call if you knew tomorrow wouldn't come? What would you do? What would you say?

I lost a very dear friend last week. He was 40 years old, didn't drink, didn't smoke, ate healthy, worked out. He was married almost 4 years ago and has a 2 1/2 year old beautiful daughter. He was one of those people who always helped others. He saw the good in people that sometimes nobody else saw. Strays, whether people or cats, always found their way to his open door and open heart. I think that's what happened. He gave away so much, that his heart just stopped. He died suddenly and without warning last Tuesday.

For the last 2 years, we called and spoke regularly about how busy we were. How much we miss each other, having dinners together, going skiing, little weekend trips. We always said would get together next week, next month, tomorrow. We just ran out of tomorrows.

Spark friends, I am handing you a task. Call that old friend from high school/college, your favourite Aunt, the little old lady down the street... Whoever it is on that list we all have. I have always called it the "I'll call them tomorrow" list. Stop thinking about it. You DO have 15 minutes to chat, write a letter, post an email.

Don't wait for tomorrow, it might not happen.

I'm so very sorry to read of the loss of your friend. I appreciate that you shared and opened your heart and mine to the challenge. I just got off the phone with someone from our church that I had been meaning to call; I wrote my parents and letter, and now will phone my sister! Thank-you....
Sending you the warmth that I know the memory of his friendship gives you,
Chrys
