Weekly weigh-in | H4H Challenge | "The Rut"

Saturday, October 08, 2011

Hey Sparkers! Here is my weekly weigh in and rant :)

So work has been INCREDIBLY STRESSFUL as of late. It has robbed me of all of my energy and joy. When I get home in the evenings (sometimes late), all I want to do is eat dinner, veg out, and go to bed. I've got to figure out how to cope with the stress and balance the demands, or I am not going to be able to sustain. Its impacting building my social life here in Portland, impacting meeting my Spark goals, and not bringing much joy to my life at this point.

As a result of the stress and energy I've been expending at work, I've found myself in a rut. I've actually been in this rut since I got back from my trip to Alabama a couple of weeks ago. I've been eating within my calorie range, but not in the way I am supposed to. I haven't been eating equal meals throughout the day - I've just been eating when I can find the time - and the stress has tempered my appetite.

There it is - in bold letters - my confession. It is likely the root of my weigh-in results this week. I know the gym can help me with my stress and mood as it has done before. I know that, if I could just get back in my routine, that I would feel so much better and that my results would continue. I just can't seem to get it back into action. I've got to make time and energy to do this for myself and bump work just a little to the side. I can tell in the way that I feel that my body is missing the gym. I've just got to get my head back in the game.

Anyhow, here are this week's weigh-in results:

Starting weight: 257 lbs (2/28/2011)
Last logged weight: 233.0 lbs (10/1/2011)
Weigh-in 10/8/2011: 233.0 lbs

Total weight lost since 10/1/2011: 0 lbs
Total weight lost to date: 24.0 lbs

So yeah - no weight loss this week. I suppose I should be happy that I didn't gain any weight since I haven't been sparking the way that I should. I'm going to put some thought and focus around what I can do to get back in the groove today. I have to stop letting work and clients dictate my life - because at the end of the day - it is my life and I only have one of them to live.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

You are gonna climb out of this rut because you're worth making time for, you'll actually be able to tackle and excel better when you are working out. This will make work easier. Keep sparking!

Work can become overbearing at times. How well I know this. Just try to stay positive and find some "ME" time. If you have read The Spark...remember...it only takes ten minutes a day. Ten minutes just for YOU..not work, not clients, just ten minutes for YOU! Consistency is the key. I have fallen off the exercise wagon myself and I was just giving myself the same speech a few minutes ago. Good Luck to both of us.

September Goal Recap and October Goals

Saturday, October 01, 2011

Below are the goals I outlined for September:

- September weight loss goal: 6lbs (1.5lbs per week = 234lbs by September 30)
- Log 500 fitness minutes in the month of September (I really want that 500 fitness minutes trophy)
- Weight train 3 times a week

I met the first goal - I lost 7lbs in the month of September. Stoked about that for sure! Unfortunately, I didn't meet my other two goals. I didn't even log 250 fitness minutes this month due to travels and such. That's no excuse though and I plan on doing better in October. I also have to work on getting my weight training in. Muscle will help me burn more calories and start to firm up some of this sag that's hanging out haha.

I had three rewards outlined for meeting my September goals - clothes, new glasses, and yoga. Since I only met one of the three goals, I'm going to reward myself appropriately. My reward was $50 for each pound lost towards new fall clothes - so here's to a $350 shopping spree! I need it - the wardrobe is starting to get loose and baggy.

October goals:

- Lose 6 lbs by 10/31 to bring my weight to 227 lbs
- Log at least 500 fitness minutes (and obtain that elusive 500 fitness minutes trophy)
- Weight train 3 days a week
- Log into SparkPeople daily

If I meet all 4 of the above goals I get my new eyeglasses that I've been wanting!

Simple and easy to follow. Cheers to sparking it up in October!

Weigh-in / Catching Up / H4H Challenge

Saturday, October 01, 2011

I have been neglecting my Sparkers for the last week. Apologies up front! I traveled home to Alabama last week to chair my undergrad alumni conference and visit family. Between my hectic work schedule, prepping for the conference, and a whirlwind social calendar during the trip, I didn't have much time to log in. No excuses though - SparkPeople has helped me achieve my results thus far - I need to make time for myself and for the Spark community :)

I'm behind on a couple of weigh-ins, so I'm going to catch up in this blog.

Starting weight: 257 lbs (2/28/2011)
Last logged weight: 236.1 lbs (9/17/2011)
Weigh-in 9/21/2011: 234.8 lbs (-1.3 lbs)
(before my trip to Alabama)
Weigh-in 10/1/2011: 233.0 lbs (-1.8 lbs)

Total weight lost since 9/17/2011: 3.1 lbs
Total weight lost to date: 24.0 lbs

I'm so excited about my continued loss!! I'll confess that while I was in Alabama. I somewhat abandoned my healthy eating principles. I wasn't gluttonous, but I could have made better decisions. I also drank A LOT of wine (one of my friends back home owns a wine store). I did get some nice long walks in though, so that's a positive. I was fully expecting a gain when I returned from my trip, but I actually maintained the same weight. Maybe my metabolism is finally running the way it should be.

I returned back to my healthy eating once I returned to Portland. I haven't been as good about going to the gym as I was before my trip, but I plan on hitting it hard in October.

I have 4.6lbs left to lose to meet my Hot 4 Halloween goal of 228.4 lbs. I definitely think I'm on track to meet that and more by the end of October!

I'm going to do a separate entry to discuss how I did with September goals and lay out my goals for October. I hope everyone is having a good spark week!!

First Before and After Pics - 20lbs

Saturday, September 17, 2011

So capitalizing on the fact that I've crossed the 20lbs lost threshold, I thought I'd do a before/after pic blog for my own motivation and posterity. Unfortunately, I didn't take an official "start" pic, although this gem taken in March is pretty heinous and will suffice HAHA.

Before Pic: I was around 254lbs in this pic - it was taken shortly after I began Sparking again after a couple of years hiatus.
After Pic: This is me today at 236lbs. I still have 56 lbs to go to get back to 180, but after putting these pics side by side, I can definitely see some progress. It makes me happy and proud.

It should be noted that the blue gingham shirt in the after pic is the same one I am wearing in the before pic under the sweater vest. The reason for the sweater vest? The bottom 3 buttons of the gingham shirt would not button up over my belly :)

I think I'll add a pic for every 10lbs lost until I reach the end of my journey.

Happy Sparking!

Weekly weigh-in and H4H challenge

Saturday, September 17, 2011

This week was another hectic week at work, but I made time for myself in the form of some stress-relieving exercise and good eats! I took a trip to our local New Seasons grocery store (it's similar to Whole Foods) and stocked the pantry with lots of tasty and healthy foods. I made some fantastic sautéed cabbage on Thursday alongside some Cluckphrey patties (soy chicken). Last night, I made homemade vegetable soup and inside out peach cobbler for dessert (my own recipe - I will have to post it - so yum and only around 100 calories). So all in all it was a great week even though work was stressful.

Now for the good stuff - weekly weigh in!

Last week's weight: 238.1 lbs
This week's weight: 236.1lbs
Weekly loss: 2.0 lbs
Total loss: 20.9 lbs

Yes! Yes! Yes! I've officially made it to the 20lbs lost club!!! I was so excited when I got on the scale this morning. I actually got off - took a shower - then weighed again in case it was an error. It wasn't haha. After having some pretty successful weight loss weeks, I've been expecting my weight loss to slow down. That's the pessimist in me expecting another plateau. I know another plateau will inevitably come, and when it does, I'll change things up to break it. For now though, I'm going to enjoy this 1-2 lb a week loss streak that I've been on.

It's hard to gauge the changes in your body, because you see it everyday and don't notice the changes over time. I was looking at my profile in the mirror earlier this week though and could definitely see a difference. I need to buy a measuring tape and start measuring inches just for giggles. Pretty soon I'm going to have to buy some new clothes - my wardrobe is getting a little loose and baggy.

I hope everyone has a great week sparking and post some good results. Don't get frustrated and don't give up. If you get off track then get back on! You can't change the past. You can't control the future. You can just make the change in the moment. The small changes will make big differences - I promise!

Congrats on the 2lbs wt loss...you are creeping up on me lol!!! I'm happy that you stayed on track even though work was stressful for you. I feel the same way about seeing the difference I still see the "old" me and not the "during" me. I can feel the difference but I'm still looking at this love handle that I want GONE but I know its smaller lol I guess!!

Have a Great Week...Keep Sparking!!
