Finally hit another milestone!!!

Saturday, February 18, 2012

If you follow my blog, you know that for the last 2 1/2 months I have been plateaued in my weight loss. I have been floating between 228 and 232 lbs. This yo-yo plateau has frustrated me beyond belief. Finally, I decided to accept it and just continue what I am doing knowing that the results would come eventually.

I wasn't anticipating a loss when I stepped on the scale this morning. This week has been crazy. Work has been really intense, and I worked a few late nights that left little time for sleep. It also cut into my gym time, which does not make me happy. I'm slowly working on the balance of doing what I have to do and also doing what's right for me. I was much better this week, but still have room for improvement when it comes to consistency and making time for myself.

I was surprised when the scale popped back "227.0" at me this morning. I have been trying to hit this number for a couple of months now, since it officially marks "30 lbs lost". It also coincides with the 1 year anniversary since I renewed my vow to get in shape and get back to 180 a year ago. To see that number reading back at me has motivated me beyond belief and reassured me that I am doing the right things. Now, I need to focus this motivation into momentum and keep the journey going to continued self improvement.

Thanks to everyone who has encouraged me on my journey thus far. Here's to the next 5, 10, 20, 30 lbs and beyond.

Last week's weight: 229.9 lbs (2/11/2012)
This week's weight: 227.0 (2/18/2012)
Weight change: -2.9 lb
Total weight lost since 2/22/2011: 30.0 lbs

Have a great weekend!

Music is my motivation - This month's key players

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Music is my motivation. A song can come on during my workout and spark me to an amazing finish when all I want to do is give up. I'm a firm believer that music is a very personal experience to an individual. The lyrics can conjure up a memory. The beat can drive emotion. The melody can take you to a place where the sweat and fatigue don't matter (or motivate beyond belief). I thought I'd share some of the key songs on my playlist that are getting the job done this month. Not for everyone - but hopefully for some - and definitely for me!

- Cheers (Drink to That) - Rihanna
- Higher - Taio Cruz
- Commander - Kelly Rowland
- Raise Your Glass - P!NK
- Misery Business - Paramore
- Ridin' Solo - Jason Derulo (especially for those solo on Valentine's Day)
- Waking Up in Vegas - Katy Perry
- More - Usher
- Fast As You Can - Fiona Apple
- Jump in the Line - Harry Belafonte
- Written in the Stars - Tinie Tempah
- Trouble - P!NK
- Like a G6 - Far East Movement

There's a world of music out there just ready to motivate you. Find your tune and get your groove on today! Have a great week!

Gads I'm getting so old (and addicted to BPM on SiriusXM) that I don't recognize some of these LOL Thanks for sharing. I'm working on a new playlist for my training season and I'll give these a listen to see what I can add.

Keep on Movin' Don't Stop... No.

Monday, February 13, 2012

That's my mantra. Even though I'm not seeing results on the scale, I'm not feeling defeated. I feel fantastic. I can do 60 minutes of cardio without feeling winded. I'm going to keep on movin', knowing that the results will surely come with time and continued dedication. It seems my stay in the 220s may be longer than I wanted, but I'll continue to exercise and be disciplined. The results will come.

I crossed 250 fitness minutes on the month today. I definitely need to catch up if I'm going to make 1000 minutes this month :)

I also signed up for the Portland Shamrock Run 5k on March 18th. I'm looking forward to training for another 5k and seeing just how fast I can complete it in. The last 5k I ran in December was ran alongside my best friend. It was great to share that experience with her, going side by side and encouraging one another, but it'll be nice to run this one alone and see if I can improve my time. Hoping for a PR this time closer to the 30 minute mark.

I commence training for the 5k this week. I plan on getting runs outside along the waterfront in twice a week, regardless of the weather. I need to get used to running in the rain, since in all likelihood it may rain on March 18th.

I'm also going to get fitted for new running shoes this week. Thanks to ROXIT22222 for recommending a store. I also have a $15 off coupon to this store for signing up for the Shamrock Run. Score!

I'm going to continue to post weigh-in results for accountability's sake, even if I'm not happy with them - its the reality.

Last week's weight: 228.5 lbs (2/4/2012)
This week's weight: 229.9 lbs (2/11/2012)
Weight change: +1.0 lb
Total weight lost since 2/22/2012: 27.5 lbs

I sure would like to hit 30 lbs lost by my 1 year anniversary. I'm going to work hard between now and then!

Have a great week Sparkers!

Paraselenic - I picked the C25K up in the middle of the program and modified it a little since I have already been running intervals. I took a look at each week of the program and figured out where I actually was in the process. So far it has been good. I'm determined to get a new PR at the Shamrock Run 5k!

Way to focus on the big picture and not get distracted by the scale (I wish I could do that!) You're doing great, and I'm excited for you for the Shamrock!

What program are you doing to prep for your 5k? The couch to 5k is 9 weeks (and I know you're not "couch"), but that's the only 5 k training I know of.... good luck!

emoticon Your post reminded me that I too am doing the Shamrock, though I'm doing the 5k walk. Would you mind sharing which store was reccomended to you for running shoes? I need to get fitted, and I'd love to know what runners reccomend.

You really are such a motivation to me, even when in a plateau, you have a positive outlook and keep your eye on the long term goal. I remind myself of that constantly, because I'm in a plateau too, and it's so easy to just go "oh my numbers aren't moving, my clothes are still X size" etc, and get so down I just want to give up. YOU inspire me to keep going, and keep moving, like your motto says.

The rut... err I mean week... in review

    Weeee! Spinny chair!!!

Sometimes our motivation wanes. I go through that frequently, the biggest thing is not giving up. Realistically we're not going to want to work out every day, but having the self awareness to keep from slipping back into a stagnent lifestyle is the key. Granted I'm preaching more to myself than anyone else. Keeping my work out routine going is so stinkin' hard! Yet, the more I do the stronger I get! I find when I'm having a blah day I have to spend some time watching vlogs and reading blogs on here to get me pumped again.

If I'm not lazy, I like to set aside one night of the week (usually Sunday) and just cook. I cook several larger meals and then put them in portioned containers for later in the week. Soups and chili's are great for freezing to have on a day where you don't want to cook. That way I don't even have to think, everything is portioned out and ready to go AND I know what has gone into them.

Good luck with getting over your plateau, just vlogging about it means it's important to you and you'll make it happen!

Weekly weigh-in

Saturday, January 21, 2012

Had a great week this week. I was very focused on both what I was putting in my mouth, as well as the level of exercise I was getting. Allowed myself to have a "cheat" evening last night with friends and cocktails (drinks pack a LOT of calories!). I actually ended the day just slightly above my recommended calorie range though, so it was definitely a win.

Without further delay... This week's results:

Starting weight: 257 (2/28/2011)
Last weigh in: 228.2 (1/14/2012)
This week's weigh in: 227.5 (1/21/2012)

Weight loss since last weigh in: 0.7 lbs
Total weight lost: 29.5 lbs

I didn't lose as much as I wanted to this week, but a loss is a loss in my book! I actually was nervous - I weighed a couple of times during the week around 229.5. I was all prepared to be blogging today about how I'm gaining muscle, that muscle weighs more, etc. I actually do think I am in one of those weird building muscle/losing fat plateaus. I definitely feel fitter, my clothes are looser, and I can notice a change in parts of my body. I'm just going to continue to do what I am doing, knowing that the results will eventually come. The journey may be a little longer - but I'm out for permanence.

Have a great weekend Sparkers!

Great job! It's nice to see that you plan for, and allow yourself, to enjoy things with friends and family. Too many people have an all or nothing attitude and that's not the way life works for most of us. Congratulations on not only your SV but your NSVs, too. Sometimes those can help us feel much more accomplished when the scale doesn't move as much as we'd like it to. Keep up the good work! emoticon
