During the 1st week of November 2007, I took the plunge and walked into a Weight Watchers meeting. I was at the end of my rope... tired, weak, obese, depressed, yadda yadda. I made a pledge to myself that I would continue going to meetings for two years... gain or lose. I figured something would sink in if I showed up LOL! I listened to the food plan, went to the store and started down the healthy eating road. I was really angry at myself for letting my weight get so out of hand (again!) and thought enough is enough. I'm over 50 and this problem has plagued me all my life. Let's get it right and this issue done and over with!
Fast forward three years... woot woot! It took me 18 months to reach the top end of the WW goal range for my height .Over the past 18 months I have maintained that loss and even lost a few more pounds. I really want to lose some more weight but know I am going to have to cut some calories out in order to do that. I'm going to have to work on that.
As a lifetime member, I still go to WW once a month to weigh in. I need that accountability. I don't stay for the meetings anymore, but it does feel good to walk in that room and have people smile. I hope it also helps them know that it is possible to reach a goal with time and consistency. I didn't lose it fast (3-5 pounds a month) but over time it amounted to 70 pounds gone! I found Sparkpeople about a year after I started and I KNOW that SP was a huge help. The daily dose of motivation and positive reinforcement has helped me keep my focus. This is the first time in my life that I can say I have maintained a healthy lifestyle for 3 YEARS without reverting to my old bad habits.
Before Photo (December 2007)
I was down about 10 pounds from my high of 212 in this photo.
After Photo (September 2010) About 141
Thanks Sparkpeople for helping me reach 3 years and I'm now looking forward to adding many more healthy years.

You have been invited to be a part of a recipe exchange. Please send a recipe to
the person whose name is in position 1 (even if you don't know them) and it
should be something quick, easy and without rare ingredients. Actually, the best
one is the one you know in your head and can type right now. Don't agonize over it; it is the one that you make when you are short on time.
Follow these instructions:
After you've sent your recipe to the person in position 1 below, and only to
that person, copy this email into a new email, move my name to position 1 and
put your name in position 2. Only mine and your name should show when you send your email. Send to 20 friends BCC (blind copy) and you should receive up to 36 recipes. Itís fun to see where they come from. Seldom does anyone drop out because we all need new ideas.
The turnaround is fast, as there are only 2 names on the list, and you only have
to do this once. I know I can always use a new recipe. Enjoy!

Recently I upgraded my gym membership to the "Swim and Gym" which gives me access to both the gym and to swim at the local public indoor pool. If I'm serious about doing a triathlon next year... I need to get started with working on my swimming. I took lessons as a kid, but really haven't done much swimming for the past 45 years other than dog paddling around the pool on vacation. So, knowing I need to get started I figured the first step was walking in the door, checking out the pool and getting the lay of the land. So early last week, I put on my suit, checked out the locker room, took a quick shower as it was posted as a "must" on the wall and found my way to the pool. I looked around and there were about four or five other people in the pool swimming laps. Everyone really looked like they knew what they were doing. I hopped in and started swimming and in very short order found myself winded. Hmmm.... my endurance is pretty good so this swimming must be working me in a new way. My eyes started to sting (I had no goggles) my suit straps were falling down and generally giving me a problem and I was pretty uncomfortable. I did a few more laps trying a few different strokes and called it a day. I figured I needed to get a new suit (not the sunbathing type!); a swim cap and some goggles. I wear prescription glasses and without them I really can't see much. After I got home, I did a few google searches and came across a website called Swimoutlet.com that carried suits made for competition / fitness activities, prescription goggles, swim caps, and all sorts of other swim stuff. I couldn't decide on a suit so on a whim I ordered a couple of fitness suit "grab bags" as they were supposedly good suits on clearance. I figured since the suit was for training it wouldn't really matter as long as it fit. I ordered a couple different styles of goggles not having any idea what type I would prefer (one blue one black) and two swim caps (one blue, one black). I also ordered a book on swim drills which would help for practice. My box of stuff arrived day before yesterday ... boy did they ship fast! I looked over the grab bag suits they picked and was very pleased with the selections... whoever did the picking chose suits that matched my goggles and swim caps! I tried both on and they fit perfectly and felt great. No riding up the butt, no strap issues... I put on a cap and goggles and just had to giggle... my husband told me I really looked the part LOL.
So this afternoon .. now that I had my new gear... I went back to the pool again for lap swim. Interestingly enough.. the same people I saw swimming last week were there again. As I was walking into the pool area, the lifeguard looked at me and said "nice suit"... I smiled to myself.... Ha Ha I did look the part! I got in the pool and did a few laps... again it was tough. I worked on doing some turn flips and will need to keep working on those! I flip pretty lopsided.. but hey it is a start. I spent about 30 minutes in the pool and felt like I had a work-out. My new suit worked out perfectly and didn't cause me any problem. My goggles worked fine... I could see and my eyes didn't burn. My swim cap even kept my hair sort of dry. I have highlights in my hair and I want to protect them as much as possible from the chlorine. All in all I figure I made a little progress today and I'm going to try and go at least twice a week.
Hope you had a good week-end my friends... It is 10/10/10 today ... that sounds like a winner!
Spark on! Hugs, Rhonda
