DAY 86 MINIMIZE THE DAMAGE

YOU'VE LEARNED MANY TRICKS TO HELP IN YOUR DIETING. BUT, LIFE HAS A WAY OF GETTING IN THE WAY OF YOUR PLANS.

BROWNIES, CAKE OR LASAGNE'S IS CALLING................ YOU WONDER IF YOU SHOULD THROW IN THE TOWEL OR QUIT???

GOING OFF YOUR DIET DOESN'T MEAN YOU DON'T HAVE ONE.

DON'T QUIT OR GIVE UP! STAY THE COURSE.

STOP WHILE ITS SMALL

ADVERTISEMENT CLAIMS YOU CAN'T EAT JUST ONE BELIEVE IT NOT. (LAYS CHIPS)

BUILD A STRONG CONFIDENCE THAT YOU CAN STOP EATING AND GET BACK ON TRACK. EVEN THUR A SLIP OR DETOUR FROM YOUR DIET YOU CAN STILL USE THE TECHNIQUES TO DECREASE THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE YOU ALLOW TO HAPPEN.

IF TEMPTATION SEEMS TO GRAB YOU-- SIT ON YOUR HANDS, LEAVE THE ROOM OR THROW AWAY THE REST OF THE TEMPTING FOOD.

I WILL USE MY DISTRACTION TECHNIQUES. ALONG WITH PRAYER.

THE SAME TECHNIQUES CAN BE USED AT PARTIES, GATHERINGS OF ALL KINDS. KEEP A LIST OF TRICKS SUCH AS SAVORING THE FIRST BITE, AND POST PONED EATING.

IF ARE YOU WEAK AND FOOD TRIGGERS IS ON THE WAY-- SHIFT YOUR FOCUS ON SOMETHING ELSE OTHER THAN FOOD.

THE TECHNIQUES ALSO WORKS ON VACATIONS. YOU CAN EXPERIMENT BY TRYING OUT A NEW FOOD OR DESSERT LIMIT YOURSELF TO 2 BITES, SAVOR THE FOOD, NOTICE THE FLAVORS, THEN LEAVE THE TABLE AND DO SOMETHING ELSE.


DAY 87 OLD HABITS

A FEW OF YOUR OLD HABITS AND PROBLEMS WITH FOOD HAVEN'T COMPLETED DISAPPEARED SOME MANY LOOK APPEALING AGAIN.

GET RID OF OLD HABITS.
PEOPLE WHO REGAIN WEIGHT SAY THEY SLIPPED BACK INTO THEIR OLD HABITS.

YOU SKIP THE OATMEAL IN THE MORNINGS AND OPT FOR DONUTS INSTEAD FOR BREAKFAST. YOU REMEMBER HOW GOOD THE DONUTS WERE AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW YOU ARE AT THE KRISPY CREME DONUT SHOP HAVING THEM AGAIN.

YOU LET A ROUTINE GO. NO EXERCISE. ITS EASIER TO EAT A BAG OF CHIPS THAN TO WALK ON YOUR TREADMILL.

TO PREVENT SLIPPING (OLD HABITS) YOU MAY HAVE TO BREAK THE PATTERN FROM THE BEGINNING.

IDENTIFY TIMES WHEN YOU EAT OUR OF HABIT. THEN DECIDE HOW TO CHANGE YOUR ROUTINE.

CREATE NEW PATTERNS.
IF THERE ARE TIMES WHEN YOU ASSOCIATE TIMES WITH FOOD CHANGE OR SHAKE THINGS UP. IF YOU ALWAYS SEARCH THE CUPBOARDS BEFORE BED TAKE A WARM BATH INSTEAD. WHEN YOU WATCH TV GRAB A GLASS OF WATER INSTEAD OF YOUR USUAL SODA. CHANGE UP THE FAMILY RITUAL OF HAVING ICE CREAM. CHANGE UP EVEN IF YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE CHANGING.

AT THE BIRTHDAY PARTY YOU HOSTED FOLKS WERE HAVING CAKE AND ICE CREAM. YOU FELT LEFT OUT AND AFTER THE PARTY was OVER YOU TIP TOED INTO THE KITCHEN AND HAVE 3 PIECES OF CAKE.

DO YOU GIVE IN AND EAT BECAUSE YOU FEEL LEFT OUT??

STOP AND THINK ABOUT THE WORD DEPRIVATION....

IS IT HORRIBLE? DOES IT ALWAYS HAVE TO PUSH YOU OF YOUR PLAN??

LIKE IT OR NOT TO BE SUCCESSFUL ON GETTING HEALTHIER YOU HAVE TO SET BOUNDARIES AROUND YOUR EATING. IT MAY TIMES WHEN YOU HAVE TO TURN DOWN THE CAKE.

LIFE INCLUDES DEPRIVATION..............................
IN YOUR DAILY LIFE DEPRIVATION IS A FACTOR AND HAPPENS EVERYWHERE. YOU'LL DEPRIVE YOURSELF FROM DATING IF YOU ARE MARRIED..ETC.

DEPRAVING YOURSELF OF DESSERT MIGHT MEAN THAT YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL MANAGING YOUR WEIGHT.

WHEN YOU FEEL DEPRIVATION REGARDING FOOD LOOK AT THE BENEFITS YOU GET AS A RESULT OF YOUR ACTIONS.

DECIDE WHAT'S MORE IMPORTANT--LOSING WEIGHT OR EXPERIENCING THE TEMPORARY PLEASURE OF EATING CAKE.

WEIGHT DEPRIVES YOU TOO.

MY LIST OF HOW WEIGHT DEPRIVE ME OF.

1. IN MY CASE BEING HEAVIER THAN I NEED TO BE CAUSES ME TO VISIT THE DR MORE SPEND MONIES ON PRESCRIPTIONS BECAUSE OF MY HEALTH CHALLENGES.

2. SPEND MORE MONIES ON CLOTHES THAT ARE PLUS SIZED. NOT FAIR BUT THEY COST MORE.

3. CAN CAUSE ME TO FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE WEARING CERTAIN CLOTHES.

4. DIE BEFORE MY TIME IF I DO STAY ON TOP OF MY CARE.

I CAN LIVE WITHOUT FRIED CHICKEN SOMETHING I THOUGH I'D DIE WITHOUT. I DO NOT MISS.

PIZZA I NEED TO GET RID OF.

AT FAMILY GATHERING I CAN BE IN CONTROL AND STILL ENJOY THE FAMILY. I CAN CONCENTRATE ON THEM AND NOT THE FOOD.

THOSE WHO KNOW ME KNOW I AM NOT A HOPELESS PERSON. THIS EXERCISE REQUIRED ME TO MAKE A LIST AND I DID.

WITH GOD ON MY SIDE I AM STRONGER, WISER AND DETERMINED.

    Not to belittle what you said..... I do fully understand where you are coming from, but do you have to completely deprive yourself? Why not everything in moderation? Would just a bite do to help you feel as though you are a part of the celebration so that you would not have to be deprived? Can you really give up the things that you love forever? I think it's important to try to practice allowance but control... just a thought. I hope I have not offended. emoticon

DAY 82 LAST STRAW EATING

YOU'VE HAD A STRESSFUL DAY AND THINGS KEEP HAPPENING.

IT IS EASY TO SAY "THAT'S THE LAST STRAW" RIGHTLY SO!!!!!!!!! BUT YOU CREEP INTO THE KITCHEN AND SWIM INTO A BAG OF COOKIES.

YOU WERE WEAKEN MUCH EARLIER IT WAS NOT THE LAST STRAW THAT GOT YOU.

RECOGNIZE THE CHAIN

BY ASKING "WHAT ELSE" YOU CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT BEHAVIOR CAUSED THESE CHAINS OF EVENTS TO MAKE YOU OVER EAT.

JOT DOWN WAYS TO PREVENT YOU FROM OVER EATING WHEN LIFE HITS YOU UPSIDE THE HEAD PUTTING YOU AT RISK OF LAST STRAW EATING.

AS A PERSON OF FAITH THE FIRST BIT OF STRESS I WILL PRAY AND LEAN ON THE LORD WHO IS MY STRENGTH. AND, IN THE NATURAL I WILL USE MY DISTRACTION LIST ALONG WITH THE STRESS RELIEF LIST.

YOUR WASHING MACHINE STOPS, YOUR KIDS SICK, BOSS IS ON YOUR CASE, YOU JOB MAY BE TRANSFERRED OVER SEAS. BROWNIES ARE JUST A COUPLE OF INCHES AWAY.,...YOU EAT SOME OF THEM IN TURN YOU OVER EAT. YOU ALSO EAT ICE CREAM ON TOP OF THAT. THIS ACTION SEEMS LIKE RANDOM ACTS BUT YOU WERE ALREADY WORE DOWN AND SO WAS YOUR FOOD RESISTANCE.

IN A BEHAVIOR CHAIN ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER, INCREASING YOUR FRUSTRATION UNTIL YOU GIVE UP.

STRUGGLES WITH EMOTIONAL EATING RARELY HAPPENS IN ISOLATION.

ON DAYS WHEN YOU ARE OPERATING ON A THREAD ITS EASY TO REACH FOR THE PIZZA.

ASK, "AND WHAT ELSE"? TO EXAMINE THE LINES IN A BEHAVIOR CHAIN IDENTIFY THE EXACT TIME YOU FIRST ATE OR KNEW WHEN YOU WANTED TO EAT.
THINK BACK AND ASK YOURSELF WHAT HAPPENED? WHAT BOTHERED YOU? OR MADE YOU UPSET?

THINK ABOUT THE SITUATION OR PEOPLE THAT MAY HAVE PROMPTED YOUR STRESSFUL FEELINGS, OR OTHER EMOTIONS.

AS YOU IDENTIFY KEEP ASKING WHAT ELSE? TO FIGURE OUT THINGS.

STUDY THE LINKS---AFTER YOU IDENTIFY ALL THE LINKS IN CHAINS OF EVENTS..LOOK CAREFULLY AT EACH ONE. DETERMINE WHICH PLACES YOU SLIPPED UP AND CONSIDER WHAT YOU COULD DO TO PREVENT THEM.

RATHER THEN FOCUSING HOW MUCH YOU ATE, THINK ABOUT OTHER WAYS YOU COULD HAVE HANDLED THE PROBLEMS IN YOUR DAY. BY STOPPING AT THE 3RD EVENT INSTEAD OF WAITING UNTIL THE 10TH ONE. YOU MAY PREVENT YOURSELF FROM HEADING TO THE CUPBOARD FOR THOSE CHIPS.

WHEN YOU STRUGGLE WITH YOUR EATING OR YOU HAVE WEIGHT GAIN YOU MAY DESCRIBE YOURSELF WITH DAMAGING WORDS SUCH AS FAT, LAZY, FAILURE, OR EVEN SCREW UP.

WHEN MAKING THESE NEGATIVE VIEWS OF YOURSELF YOU WILL MATCH IT BY HOW YOU LIVE.

USE POSITIVE WORDS

TO CHANGE THE WAY YOU SEE YOURSELF YOU MAY HAVE CHANGE OR CREATE A DIFFERENT PICTURE OF YOURSELF.

USE DESCRIPTIVE WORDS SUCH AS HOT MAMA, HOT BABE OR POWERWOMEN.

(I'VE SEEN SOME SPARK NAMES AND WONDERED WHY SOME WOULD CALL THEMSELVES THAT NAME? I LOVE MY SPARK NAME CAUSE THAT WHAT I AM. BUT I ALSO CONSIDER MYSELF A HOLY HOTTIE. emoticon

    I catch myself calling myself bad names often when I am dissatisfied in my performance in one area of my life or another. I have been working to change my attitude from, "I'm so stupid,' (or fat, or lazy, or whatever) to "Oh, I goofed that up. I'll do better next time!" It is not easy, but well worth the practice.

I am going to have to try to think of some new names for myself like you suggested. Thanks!
