DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH YOU EAT??

I MUST ADMIT THAT I DO NOT GUESS MATE WELL.

OUR SERVING SIZE HAS INCREASED THAT IS FOR SURE.

I USE THE SCALE ON MY GOOD DAYS. I NEED TO BE CONSISTENT WITH THIS ACTIVITY. SHE SUGGESTED USING YOUR HAND WHEN MEASURING SERVING OF MEATS, OR THE PALM OF YOUR HAND.

I do KNOW THAT AN OUNCE OF CHEESE IS ABOUT THE SIZE OF YOUR THUMB emoticon

BUT I WILL REFER TO MY OWN MEAL PLANNING BOOKLET.

YOUR FIRST EQUAL A CUP. THIS METHOD WOULD BE DIFFICULT WITH A WET INGREDIENT. LOL.

YOUR PALM EQUALS 3 OUNCES NOW THIS WORK WELL WITH MEASURING CHICKEN AND THE LIKE.

LINDA SAYS SNACK FOOD LIKE NUTS AND CHIP SERVING SIZE IS THE AMOUNT YOU CAN HOLD LOOSELY IN YOUR HAND.

FOR ME WHEN I AM HOME I WILL USE THE SCALE ETC. ON MOST PACKAGES THE AMOUNT IS LISTED IN HOW MUCH A SERVING IS. FILLER FOODS ARE NOT GOOD FOR MY BOYD SO I WILL USE THEM SPARINGLY. BUT I WILL KEEP PRACTICING THE HAND METHOD...YOU CAN NOT PULL OUT YOUR SCALE AT A RESTAURANT...OR SOME FAMILY GATHERINGS emoticon BUT I SAY IF THEY LOVE YOU THEY WILL OVER LOOK YOU IF YOU SCALE JUST HAPPENS TO BE IN YOUR PURSE. emoticon JOKING NUT MAYBE NOT!

I HAVE BEEN DOING SOME THINKING WHAT A SMALL AMOUNT OF RICE OR PASTA I AM ALLOWED. I FEEL IT IS NOT WORTH EATING IT.



DAY 20

HALF OFF SPECIAL

WHEN YOU COOK YOUR FOOD MEASURING AND KNOW MUCH OF WHATEVER IS EASY....

DIVIDE AND CONQUER!

THE HALF OFF TECHNIQUE IS YOU CUTTING OUT HALF OF WHAT YOU WOULD EAT OUT.

EXAMPLE WOULD BE EATING A HALF OF A SAMMIE WITH A PIECE OF FRUIT AND LEAVING HE REST OF THE SAMMIE AT LEAST 2 HOURS LATER SEE IF YOU REALLY NEED IT. THIS WOULD WORK WELL AT A BANQUET OR MEAL WITH SEVERAL COURSES.

FOR ME I WILL EAT MY NORMAL MEALS AS PLANNED...I DEAL WITH MEDS THAT BRING MY BLOOD SUGARS LOW IF NOT ENOUGH FOOD IS EATING WITH IT. THIS METHOD WILL ONLY BE USED WITH SAY A FILLER FOOD OR WHEN I AM FEEL SATISFIED. MEANING THAT I AM NOT TOO FULL OR I AM NOT HUNGRY EITHER. IN OTHER WORDS I WILL PLAY THIS BY EAR. AS ALWAYS I WILL LEAN ON MY FAITH IN GOD TO CARRY ME THUR. emoticon

    I think some times when think serving when think 3servings. So when I grab fries now, I grab 12-15 cause that is the actual serving...YIKES!!

  emoticon emoticon emoticon getting a grip on portion size has been 1 of the most mentally difficult things for me, cuz i just adored supersizing stuff for a quarter when that all started! Yeah, i can see carrying a scale in the purse... LOL, i've been tempted! Using body parts is a simple idea that has helped me eyeball meats and carbs (fistful) ~ i understand on the rice and noodles... really 1/3 cup? I was used to making a bed of rice on the plate to cover with meat & smother in gravy... or a plateful of spaghetti & a stack of garlic bread... really? i'm only supposed to eat that??? who knew??? i never ever thought I'd adjust... I like things that still give a big eyeful... I think that's why eating 2 cups of veggies at lunches and dinners helps my eyeballs feel satisfied. Hard to do at the restaurants, they serve ginormous meats & carbs and a little veggie, like it's a garnish... they need to flip it!

IT IS TOUGH IF YOU ARE IN THE CLEAN-YOUR-PLATE- CLUB.. CAN BE A STRUGGLE ....I USED TO BE THAT WAY NOT ANY MORE. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN I AM PREFECT WITH THIS ACTIVITY..

SO FOCUSING ON HOW NOT TO LET FOOD POWER OVER YOU WHEN YOU CAN NOT THROW FOOD AWAY.

THE ONE PEA AT A TIME METHOD.---- STRUGGLING WITH THROWING FOOD AWAY...TRY JUST A BIT OF FOOD THAT REMAINS ON YOUR PLATE THE SIZE OF A PEA TO THROW AWAY EACH NIGHT.

RESTAURANT TRAPS.

LEAVE SOME FOOD BEHIND AT EVERY MEAL. WHEN YOU ARE COMFORTABLE DO THE SAME AT THE RESTAURANT. YOU CAN TAKE MEALS HOME FOR THE NEXT DAY... BUT THIS CAN BE TRICKY...YOU APT TO EAT MORE FOOD AND THUS EAT MORE CALORIES AND FAT BRINGING A DOGGIE BAG HOME. DOUBLE PLEASURE DOUBLE YOUR FUN...NOT THIS WAY. emoticon . YOUR BEST BET IS TO PLAN HEALTHY MEALS BEFORE HAND AND AT THE RESTAURANT IF YOU HAVE MORE YOU MAY BE BETTER OFF.

IF YOU DECIDE TO HAVE A FILLER FOOD (MOST BAKED GOODIES ( IE CAKES , COOKIES AND PIES (ETC) AND FOOD LIKE THIS--- HAVE THE FIRST 2 BITES AND LEAVE THE REST ON YOUR PLATE. IF HOME THROW IT AWAY.

NOW FOR ME WHEN I GO OUT AND EAT WITH HUBBIE (SPARINGLY) -----I PLAN MY MEALS BEFORE HAND. WHEN I AM FINISHED WITH MY FOOD I PUT KETCHUP AND MUSTARD OVER IT. THEN I PLACE A NAPKIN OVER IT ALONG WITH THE FORK AND SPOON. THAT WAY IT IS NOT APPEALING THUS I DO NOT WANT TO EAT THE REST OF IT. MY HUBBIE MORE OR LESS DOES NOT KNOW LIMITS WHILE EATING OUT...HE RESPONSE IS I AM TREATING MYSELF...BUT NOW I CAN LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE. I LOVE ME BETTER THAN THAT. NOW IF I COULD GET MY HUBBIE TO STOP OFFERING ME FOODS NOT PLANNED ON MY MEALS. WOE THIS PAST WEEK HE OFFERED ME A CHEESE BISCUIT. I HAD TO PRAY REAL HARD.   it's been hard for me to throw away food, whether at the restaurant or at home. i like the idea of the ketchup/mustard.... or salt would work for me too i think. I am trying to really embrace that being healthy is way more important than gobbling the extra food, because gobbling that extra food makes me physically sick... (sighs) i never really realized that before, sure changes things though, and I wanted to tell you that you spark me when you talk about how you are handling that... makes me feel like I just am not alone making changes because my body really needs me to!

CLEANING YOUR PLATE ON MAN!!!!!!! emoticon I HEARD THIS FROM MY MOTHER WHEN I WAS A YOUNG GIRL. I HAD ISSUED WITH WITH NOT EATING MOST OF THE TIMES. I WAS VERY SICKLY AS A CHILD INTO MY MED 30S. ASTHMA HAD A HOLD ON ME THEN AND AS A CHILD FOLKS DIVORCED AND FELT A DEEP SADNESS. AT AGE 12 I TURNED TO FOOD SECRETLY. LOOKING BACK I CAN NOT BLAME MY FOLKS ON HOW I EAT NOW. I AM WORKING ON MY CLEAN-YOUR- PLATE CLUB THINKING. I SAY YOU ARE FIRED!!!!!!!!

NOT WASTING FOOD DOES MAKE SENSE TOUGH...IN SOME CASES THIS CAN BE PREVENTED BY COOKING SMALL AMOUNTS OF FOOD, SHARING FOODS AT THE RESTAURANT'S WHEN INVITED AT OTHER PLACES TO EAT, A FRIEND FAMILY GATHERING. EXTRA FOODS YOU DO NOT NEED.

LEARNING HOW TO MANAGE EXTRA FOODS WITH EATING THEM.

ITS WASTED ANYWAY.

EVERY TIME YOU EAT FOOD THE BODY DOESN'T NEED IT IS WASTED THERE BY EXTRA FAT. OR IT CAN BE WASTED IN THE GARBAGE.

EATING MY KIDS LEFT OVERS NOT ANY MORE! emoticon THAT ENDED A WHILE BACK. emoticon.

HOW I MANAGE LEFT OVERS.

I TRY AND PLAN SO I DO NOT HAVE THEN THIS DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK AT TIMES.

I FREEZE THEN IF THERE VEGGIES FOR SOUP LATER. THIS WORKS WELL IN THE WINTER. I ALSO PLACE LEFT OVERS FOR A MEAL TO USED THE NEXT DAY. IF I AM AT A RESTAURANT I LEAVE THEM THEIR. IF NO OTHER USES AND NO ONE ELSE EATS THEM IT IS TOSSED. I STILL HAVE ISSUES WITH THROWING AWAY FOODS AT TIMES...BUT I AM WORKING ON IT. emoticon

FUEL OR FILLER FOODS

AM I ADDING FILLER OR FUEL FOOD TO MY DIET??? PROBABLY MOSTLY BOTH. emoticon BUT SOMETIMES FILLER FOODS emoticon.


FUEL FOODS BRING NUTRIENTS TO THE BODY WITH LITTLE FATS, SUGARS, AND EMPTY CALORIES emoticon . FUELS FOODS ARE VEGGIES, FRUITS AND WHOLE GRAINS, LEAN MEATS, DARK COLORED GREENS, SPINACH, MANGOES, KALE, JICAMA.

FILLER FOODS ARE STORE BAKED SNACKS MOSTLY. BUT A SALAD THAT IS DRESSED WITH EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF SALAD DRESSING CAN BECOME A FILLER FOOD TOO. FILLER FOODS CARRY SMALL AMOUNTS OF NUTRIENTS CHIPS, SWEETS, ARE AN EXAMPLE emoticon WOW I JUST STEPPED ON MY OWN TOES. FILLER FOODS LEAVE YOU DRAINED OF ENERGY. BODIES DO NOT URN WELL ON JUNK AND WEIGHT LOSS EFFORTS.!!!

IF YOU REACH FOR A FILLER FOODS HAVE ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF THEM.

WHEN RUNNING ERRANDS I WILL REFER TO MY DAY 11 SNACK LIST AND I WILL EAT FROM THEM WHEN HAVING A SNACK AND TRY TO CUT OUT CHIPS COMPLETELY. BUT OH LORD I WILL NEED YOUR HELP WITH THIS. I WILL RETRAIN MY TASTE BUDS BY FAITH.



DAY 13


OPPSS! FORGOT TO EAT?? who me?? lol...........

HUNGRY AND EATING OFF PLAN BECAUSE YOU DELAYED LUNCH ETC.

SKIPPING MEALS DOES NOT WORK BECAUSE YOUR BODY WILL PROTECT ITSELF BY HOARDING SOME CALORIES FOR LATER USE.

SAVING UP CALORIES DOES NOT WORK EITHER. WHEN YOU UNDER EAT YOUR BODY THINKS IT DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH FOOD. SO IT HOLDS ONTO WHAT DOES COME IN AND CAN CAUSE WEIGHT GAIN.

IN THE BOOK THE AUTHOR CALLS A NURSE NAMED ELLEN
"A DIABETIC NURSE". I HATE LABELS AND I ESPECIALLY HATE THAT ONE. LABELS DIMINISH A PERSON WORTH. AND MAKES THEM SOUND LESS THAN....SHE IS A PERSON WHO HAD A CONDITION CALLED DIABETES. HER CONDITION DOES NOT DEFINE WHO SHE IS. THERE IS MORE TO HER THAN HER CONDITION. OFF PODIUM...

I DO NOT LET CONDITIONS DEFINE WHO I AM OR LET THEM KEEP OFF MY GOALS, I DO NOT LET IT STOP ME. THAT BEING SAID I DO NOT SKIP MEALS OR SNACK. I TRY MY BEST TO EAT ON SCHEDULE. PASSING OUT FROM NOT EATING IS MOST UNPLEASANT.


DAY 14


MORNINGS AFFECT EVENINGS.

OFTEN STRUGGLES WITH HUNGER FATIGUE AND FOOD CRAVINGS IN THE AFTERNOON OR EVENINGS RELATE TO HOW I ATE IN THE MORNING.

BREAKFAST AND HUNGER: CONSTANTLY SKIPPING BREAKFAST CAUSES YOUR DIGESTIVE TRACK TO STAY DORMANT UNTIL YOU GIVE IT FOOD. YOU SURPRISE YOUR STOMACH, BY UNEXPECTEDLY, EATING BREAKFAST, IT SECRETES MORE DIGESTIVE ACID THEN THE FOOD REQUIRES, MAKING HUNGER PANGS LINGER SEVERAL HOURS.

BY EATING BREAKFAST DAILY YOU WILL RETRAIN YOUR STOMACH TO MANAGE FOOD BETTER IN THE MORNINGS. PRACTICE MAKE PERFECT emoticon emoticon A WEEK OF SCHEDULED EATING WILL MAKE ALL DAY HUNGER DISAPPEAR emoticon . IF YOU DO NOT EAT DURING THE EARLY PART OF THE DAY LATE AFTERNOON YOUR BODY WILL SCREAM FOR FOOD. YOU ARE MORE PRONE TO NIBBLE ALL EVENING EVEN AFTER A LARGE DINNER. emoticon emoticon emoticon.

THE AFTERNOON DROOP...THE WORST!!!!!!!! emoticon emoticon SCREAM! FATIGUE AND HUNGER CAN RUIN YOUR JUDGEMENT ABOUT EATING. ..HAVE A SNACK AT 3 OR 4 IN THE EVENING.

LOOK FOR PROTEIN/CARB COMBOS

EXAMPLE A SMALL APPLE W/ LOW FAT CHEESE IS A GOOD ONE...YOU CHOOSE... BUT I WILL REFER TO MY DAY 11 LIST.

I PERSONALLY HAVE A SNACK AT 3:30 OR 4:00. i GET UP AT 6:00 AM. SEEING KIDS OFF TO SCHOOL ETC. I EAT BREAKFAST AT 7:30 OR 8:00. I CAN NOT EAT AN EARLIER EARLY BREAKFAST DOES NOT AGREE WITH ME. emoticon I HAVE TO WORK AROUND MEDS THAT MAKE MY BLOOD SUGARS GO LOW. I WILL WORK THINGS ACCORDING TO MY OWN NEEDS.


DAY 15 THE FIRST TWO BITES:

NOTICING THE TASTE OF FOOD FLAVOR AND TEXTURE HUMMM......

POWER OF THE FIRST TWO BITES...THE FIRST TWO BITES OF ANY FOOD HAS THE MOST FLAVOR WHEN WE KEEP EATING AFTER THAT WERE FEEDING.

A NEW WAY OF THINKING OR TASTING.........


HOW TO POWER UP YOUR FAVORITE FOODS. EAT YOUR FIRST TWO BITES SLOWLY, NOTICING THE DETAILS OF THE FOOD YOU EAT, THE TEXTURE AND FLAVOR.

ASK THE QUESTION IS IT WORTH EATING MORE?

AFTER THE FIRST TWO BITES. DECIDE IF YOU NEED MORE OF THE FOOD. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE TASTE. YOU CAN DECIDE IF IT IS SPECIAL ENOUGH TO KEEP EATING OR TOSS IT IN THE GARBAGE OR GIVE IT AWAY ETC. THIS ACTIVITY WILL BE HUGH FOR ME. THE FIRST TWO BITES OF MY FAVORITE FOODS ..I'D NEVER GIVE IT A SECOND THOUGHT. BUT NOW I DO. TONIGHT I WARMED UP A TREAT AND HAD ONLY TWO BITES OF IT emoticon. IT WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO KEEP EATING IT. I PUT IT IN THE REFRIG. I USUALLY PLACE THE LEFT OVER VEGGIES IN THE FREEZER TO MAKE SOUPS IN THE WINTER. MOSTLY FREEZE LEFT OVERS. GODS GRACE WILL TAKE ME THROUGH emoticon


DAY 16 NURTURING POWER OF FOODS

FEELING SAD, STRESSED AND LONELY FOOD MAKE SEEM TO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER IN THE BEGINNING. EATING MORE FOODS WILL NOT BRING YOU ANY MORE SATISFACTION. THE FIRST TWO BITES HAS THE MOST BENEFITS.

YOU'RE DONE!!

IF YOU ARE EATING TO FEEL NURTURED OR CALMED YOU WILL FEEL SOME OF THESE FEELINGS RIGHT AWAY. CONTINUING TO EAT WILL BRING FRUSTRATION AND DISAPPOINTMENT WITH YOUR BEHAVIOR. EATING MORE WILL NOT IMPROVE YOUR EMOTIONAL STATE.

I WILL REMIND MYSELF WHEN I AM TEMPTED TO EAT MORE. I WILL HAVE ONLY SMALL AMOUNT OF NURTURING FOODS.

DAY 11

TWO PURPOSES OF FOOD

PUTTING FOOD IN IT PROPER PLACE

1. TO FUEL MY BODY.
2. TO APPRECIATE FLAVORES.. OH I HAVE TO KEEP THIS IN MIND.

ANY OTHER REASONS FOR EATING ARE EMOTIONAL EATING.

MAKE FUEL FOOD A PREORITY FOR EATING.

1. I WILL LEARN NEW WAYS TO ENJOY FOOD AND APPRECIATE FLAVORS, WITHOUT ADDING CALORIES.

2. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT......QUALITY AND QUANTITY.

3. EAT 5- 6 SMALLS MEALS ---SNACK INCLUDED

4. IT WAS SUGESSTED TO EAT WHEN MYR BODY NEEDS IT BUT I SUFFER FROM LOW BLOOD READING AT TIEMS SO I WILL ADJUST THIS TO MY OWN NEEDS.

6. DO NOT EAT OUT EMOTIONAL REASONS.

I HATE EATING ON THE RUN..AT TIMES IT MAKES FEEL LIKE I HAVE NOT EATEN AT ALL. BUT IF I AM ON THE GO OR RUNNING ERRANDS. THEY RUN OVER THE TIME I SHOULD EAT LIST:

A SMALL APPLE WITH NUTS, OR GREEK YOGURT WITH FRUIT, CHEESE AND NUTS, CHEEST AND ORANGES, OR APPLESAUCE, ALMONDS, PB WITH APPLES OR MED. ORANGE WITH A CHEESE STICK. .

DON'T SKIPP MEALS........ emoticon I NEVER HAD THAT PROBLEM. I HVAE DELAYED THEM IN TH EPAST AND AT TIMES. BUT I ALWAYS PAY FOR IT BY HAVING A LOW BLOOD SUGAR. THE SAME IS TRUE IF I WORKOUT EXTREMELY HARD WHILE EXERCISING. GLUCOSE TBS TO THE RESCUE.

EATING ON A SCHEDULE CAN HELP KEEP METABOLISM IN CHECK AND HELP WITH BLOOD SUGARS.



DAY 12


FUEL OR FILLERS

THINK ABOUT THE FOODS I EAT............................HUMMMMMMMM. DO I EAT LOTS OF S OF OF FUEL FOOD OR FILLERS FOODS. GUILTY OF FILLERS...OH NO!!!!!!!!

FUEL FOODS ARE WHOLE GRAIN, LEAN MEATS, OR PROTEINS, FRUITS AND VEGGIES.
DARK GREENS LIKE SPANICH, KIWI, KALE AND JICAMA, AND THE LIKE.

FUEL FOODS THAT BRING NUTRIENTS TO THE BODY THEY ARE LOW IN FAT, SUGARS AND EMPTY CALORIES.

FILLER FOODS ARE MOST SWEETS AND BAKED GOODIES. THESE FOODS ALDD CALROIES AND DO NOT CARRY NUTRIIENTS MOST OF THE TIME. CHIPS ARE SWEETS ARE EXAMPLES.

FILLERS FOOD DRAG YOU DOWN I CAN TESTIFY TO THAT....WHEW! BODIES DO NOT WORK WELL WITH THIS KIND OF FOODS AND THEY HARM THE WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY. IF I REACH FOR OHE OF THESE GOODIES I WILL HAVE JUST LITTLE WITH GODS HELP OF COURSE. GOD KNOW HE WILL HAVE TO DELIVER ME FROM CHIPS. HE IS ABLE. I HAVE TO USE MY FAITH TO OVER COME THIS.
