HIDDEN TALENT...ME AT LEAST

Tuesday, January 05, 2010

When I was 11 years old my mother taught me how to crochet. It did not take me that long to learn. Over the years I have made afghans for people. I gave most of them away. The only time I charged money is when my youngest little boys teacher wanted a blanket for her baby. Before that I made my first baby blank and matching baby jacket all in pink LOL..(believing the dr. knew what he was talking about) that my baby would be a girl. What a shock when I had my first boy. I still used those items for him. He turned out ok by the way. I do not read patterns but I design my own designs mainly granny squares as the picture shows. I have experimented with other stitches.

She also taught me to knit. I found knitting too difficult..if you drop a stitch you are cooked. If you drop a stitch with crocheting it is more forgiven. You can go back and fix the missed stitch more easily then with knitting.

God give us all some kind of talent..even if it is an encouraging word or smile. God don't make no junk.

That is a ver beautiful afghan! My grandma taught me to knit but I couldn't get the drop one pick up two pearl three blah blah blah. And she lived in another provice so she couldn't teach me on a regular basis. I would have loved to have kept at it. She has passed away but I still have stuff she knitted me like socks and mitts. I will keep those forever!

    Beautiful afghan!
I knit and you are so right about missing a stitch! I am a beginner myself. I have made a couple of scarves and a hat. look at my picture to see them. I am trying to get back in the grove. I am just starting a prayer shawl but I am getting lazy. LOL! I would love to learn how to crochet. That is my next goal.
Great work!

My aunt taught me to crotchet when I was 7 - I went to stay with her after she had a hysterectomy. My first item was a doll blanket for my little sister - she still has it, well, actually she gave it to her little girl now. LOL
I also know how to knit. While at the hotel in Florida I watched how to do cable stitching - OH MY! Talk about work! BUT I'm going to try my hand at it on my next "project". Am thinking about knitting a matching hat for the scarf I knitted last month.
YES! If you drop a stitch knitting you ARE cooked! I hate when that happens. Feel that I have to go back and rip the entire thing out!!!!

NO NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS BUT JUST GOALS...

Thursday, December 31, 2009

1. PERSONAL TIME--- WHO DOES NOT NEED SOME TIME FOR THEMSELVES. The christmas holidays are over!! ((THANK GOD)). I WILL TAKE SOME TIME OUT FOR ME TO HAVE A BREATHER... I have incorporated what I call "TEA TIME" that is what it sounds like. Having a tea break. It is so needed!I MAY BE A SAHM BUT LIFE IS IS EXTREMELY BUSY.

My natural hair journey is coming right along just slow that is ok I am patient. At the moment I am wearing a puff, I do braid my hair for upkeep. My main source is youtube. THose ladies are serious and they sure know their stuff.

2. DEVOTIONAL need to take life my cares to God more and study his word daily.

3. AT LEAST 3 VEGGIES AND 2 FRUITS 2 I admit that I like sweet taste of fruits more than veggies. I am eating more of the veggies. But I need to try a new veggie or fruit and I will when able. I just came across a food dehydrater. My hubbie has promised to start a garden. ((I suffer with severe allergies for those who may say anyone can dig a hole)) with allergies dug holes can be troublemsome. I do not intend to end up in the hospital. So I am holding him to it. If he starts it I can (with much faith) tend it. I am excited to see what God will do in my garden and in my life!! Fresh veggies taste so much better.

4. VITAMINS I sometimes get busy and forget to take them..Find a way as a reminder to take them along with cal chew. I am still working on this. emoticon

5. EXERCISE DAILY- My exercise routine well BE increased. On thursdays and tuesdays. I will aerobic exercise for 45 min but omit circuit training. By faith!! and have an option so I can plan for lifes interruptions. 20-30 min aerobic exercise and circuits. It is best to be wise then unwise. M, W, F will be 20-30 min aerobic exercise along with Curcuit training with reps and set increased. Look into new exercises to add to my routine 3 months away.

6. ADDRESS Emotional eating daily... I have just recieved 100 days of weight loss. NO I now it is not a quick fix. This will take determination and hard work. With my faith In God I will make it by his grace. Faith without works is dead and I will do things in the natural as I walk my faith walk. I WILL NOT WIG OUT IF I CANT EXERCISING AS HARD AS I WOULD LIKE. I WILL NOT WIG OUT IF I SLIP AND EAT SOMETHING UNPLANNED. I WILL WORK WHAT I HAVE ATE IN MY PLAN, AND IF THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE I WILL PLAN MY NEXT MEAL ON TARGET!! I WILL RETOOL AND LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE. 10 mins of exercise is better than 0 minutes. I am on day 7 and still reading.

7. IN BED BY 11!! WHO ME?? YEP I AM DOING IT MOST DAYS. THIS WORKS REAL WELL IF I HAVE TO GET UP AT 5:30 FOR THAT TRUSTY BUS FOR MY LITTLE ONES SCHOOL. THE TWO TEENAGERS HAVE TO BE REMINDED ABOUT THINGS. SO I ENCOURAGE THEM TOO.

8. WHOLE WHEAT DOING IT..IN THE PAST I SAID THAT I WOULD NOT EAT WIERD WHOLE GRAINS LIKE MILLET AND BULGAR. BUT AFTER THINKING ABOUT IT THE WHOLE THING ABOUT A CHALLENGE IS TO DO THE THINGS YOU HAVE NOT DONE BEFORE. WELL I'LL GIVE THEM A TRY BUT.. I PUT THE BREAKS ON EZEKIEL BREAD. I'VE TRIED IT AND THE TEXTURE MAKES ME WANT TO CALL EARL..PU YUCK0! I HAVE NOT TRIED ANY NEW GRAINS BUT IN TIME I WILL.

TIPS FROM LINDA SPANGLE DURING THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

December challenges

For many people, the holiday season is NOT the most wonderful
time of the year. Instead, it causes us to re-visit the pain
of broken relationships, loss of loved ones and lack of
connection in jobs or families. And sometimes, in spite of our
good intentions and goals, we reach for food as a way to fill
the holes in our lives.

The night I kicked my kettles, I thought about how easily I
tend to blame people, events, or even iron kettles for my
eating struggles. During those times when weíre hurting or
feeling weak and vulnerable in our lives, itís easy to think
that food will fix the problem. But like my childhood skinned
knee, eating is a foolish way to deal with emotions.

Nurturing and self-care

I donít have any big answers for managing this time of
year. I do encourage you to remember that food is only a
temporary solution to your pain. The next day, the holes in
your heart will still be there.

So, instead of reaching for ice cream or cookies, gather your
tools for nurturing and self care. During the month of
December, pull them out and make them a part of each day. Here
are some of my own favorites:

* Sit in my rocking chair by the window and enjoy a pot of
tea
* Play my piano a lot, especially my favorite holiday music
* Do nice things for people such as give extra tips to
restaurant staff

When I go through difficult times, I have to emphatically
remind myself that I DONíT need ice cream or other
high-calorie foods. Instead, I need release, comfort and an
outlet for the pain. Whether my pain is physical or emotional,
I have to figure out how to deal with it rather than heading
for the refrigerator.

And maybe kicking a few kettles now and then isnít such a
bad idea either.

Know others who've got a minute? Forward this ezine and
brighten
their day.

PS. I CAN SAY THAT I HAVE MANY SMILES WHILE SHOPPING, I HAVE ALSO SEEN PEOPLE IN A HURRY AND RUNNING OVER ONE ANOTHER WITH THIER CARTS (WALMART). I WILL KEEP MY MIND ON WHO CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT THAT IS THE BIRTH OF CHRIST. THAT IS WHO I WILL CELEBRATE NOT GIFTS OR THE LACK OF. NOT FOOD LOL!!! NOT SNOW OR TREES. AFTER ALL HE CREATED ALL THINGS SEEN AND NOT SEEN.

I pray that we all will find ways to fill the holes in our hearts permanently. Food seems to help briefly but in the end it just makes us more miserable. Thank you for sharing this!

Wonderful post. Thank you! I like the kicking kettles part. I may kick some myself!
We have to remember who this season is all about! I find that doing something for someone else reminds me for the love Christ shows for us.
Have a blessed day!

I have found that the time between Thanksgiving and New Years, people tend to "slow down" and be more courteous than the rest of the year. If only everyone could do that ALL year instead of just a small part of it.

Does the CHIPS VOICES ever leave???

Friday, December 04, 2009

I have done pretty good this week. I slipped a little yesterday. NO it was not the chips but nuts. I am here just to divert myself from going in the refridg and devouring everyone of them.

Why does not so good for you food taste good? Their full of salt!!! I also love the crunchiness. Yes I have tried crunchy veggies. It is not the same.

Just here to scream with my mega emoticonPLEASE GO AWAY CHIPS. Judith Beck says if you resist long enough the desire for them will be diminish and even leave!!! What??I will strength my resistance muscle. I think I can, I think I can. I can do all things thur Chirst who is my strength.

I hear chips call me about once a week - mainly Doritos and sometimes Cheetos. The more times I find something to do and keep my mind off them, the stronger I become. But I won't tell you it's always easy because it isn't. At one time I quit eating salty snacks and sweet treats, nothing fried...I was really, really good and dropped weight like you wouldn't believe. Sigh...I gotta get back there!!!

Praying for you and I to get more strength! WE CAN DO IT!!!!

Thanks for also visiting my blogs. Your support is appreciated very, very, very much!

Hugs,
Lucky

Oooooh the chips called me last night! I did settle for just (2) servings --- DH almost finished off the NEW bag!! GRR! I'd bought them to go along with something for a dinner - you know, one of those "lazy" dinner nights where it'd be just a sandwich and chips? Oh well. BAD CHEETOS! BADDDD!!!! Funny thing - I don't really LIKE Cheetos! LOL

I can't tell you that the voice ever goes away, but I assure you the more you resist the better you will get at telling it to leave. But of luck trying to avoid the temptation. I'm having the same problem with Diet Pepsi. I'm trying to quit drinking them and I haven't had one since Sunday but I sure do want one. Bless of luck and continue to pray for HIS strength.

Chips don't call me often but since I added nuts for healthy fats they whisper once in a while. I don't think the cravings ever go away!
I agree that a crunchy radish although good is not a toasted cashew or almond. LOL

I DO NOT MAKE NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS!!! BUT GOALS...I HAVE THEM!

1. PERSONAL TIME emoticon WHO DOES NOT NEED SOME TIME FOR THEMSELVES. A HOLIDAY SEASON CAN BE OVER DONE WITH GUESS DROPPING BY. I WILL TAKE SOME TIME OUT FOR ME TO HAVE A BREATHER emoticon My hair journey is taking longer than I like. Permed hair is so different than natural. Many ladies do a BIG CHOP (that is cut their hair short) but I do not want to do that. My natural is growing beautifully. I am wearing a puff right now until my natural hair grows out more. My permed hair will not twist. I am also braiding my hair.

2. DEVOTIONAL emoticon need to take life my cares to God more and study his word daily.

3. AT LEAST 3 VEGGIES AND 2 FRUITS 2 emoticon I admit that I like fruits more than veggies. I am eating more of the veggies. But I need to try a new veggie or fruit and I will when able.

5. EXERCISE DAILY- My exercise routine is going well before I said no rest day. But I need one to plan for the next day. I HAVE UPPED MY STRENGTH TIME TO 3 OR 4 DAYS A WEEK.

6. ADDRESS Emotional eating daily...I must admit I do not blog much. Some thoughts are too private to list here...but I could journal in my personal journal book. I have just ordered 100 days of weight loss. I WILL RETOOL AND LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE. This will be my daily goals. Even though I am not doing the Beck solution anymore ((did not work for me)) can not read cards every time I eat.. but to those who it worked for more power to you. A few things stayed in my mind like 10 mins of exercise is better than 0 minutes. If you ignore the voices that tell you to eat extra they will be heard less, and will come to you less. I thought she was crazy for saying that but it is true. She says that if you practice that technique your resistance muscle will grow. Until then I will waiting on my NEW book. I find for me if I do not challenge self in some way I will not go forward.

7. IN BED BY 11!! WHO ME?? YEP I AM DOING IT MOST DAYS.
