OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW!

Wednesday, December 31, 2008

I DON'T BELIEVE IN NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS. SOME TIMES THAT CAN BACK FIRE.

INSTEAD I WILL CONTINUE TO WORK WHAT I WAS ALREADY WORKING ON JUST TRY TO BE MORE CONSISTENT.

1. EXERCISE KEEP AT IT. FIND NEW EXERCISES I CAN DO AND STICK WITH.

2. MR. EE I HAVE FAITH IN CHRIST AND HE SAID THREW HIM ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE SO I WILL KEEP THE FIGHT OF FAITH. OF COURSE FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD. I WILL TRY AND MONITOR WHAT I AM EATING. THIS MEANS PLANNING ALL MEAL AND SNACKS. THIS WORKED THIS PAST YEAR. TRY TO DECIDE IF I AM REALLY HUNGRY AT THE TIME OR IS SOME EMOTIONAL THINGS INVOLVED?

THINGS TO WORK ON IN THIS AREA. WHEN I HAVE TO LEAVE THE HOUSE AND RUN ERRANDS. I AM THROWN OFF CAUSE I HAVE TO EAT IN A HURRY. AT LEAST THIS IS HOW I FEEL. I COULD TRY TO EAT A MINI BREAKFAST, AND MAY BE HAVE A REAL MEAL IF I AM OUT MORE THAN 3 HOURS. THIS MAY WORK.

3. VEGGIES AND FRUITS INTAKE WILL THIS WENT WELL WHEN I WAS IN A CHALLENGE CALLED EATING YOUR RAINBOWS. YOU EAT FROM 5 COLORS FRUITS AND VEGGIES. THAT REALLY HELPED ME. SO I THINK I CAN DO THIS ON MY OWN NOW. THANKS MRSHONEY!

4. WATER WHEW! THIS IS A MONSTER. I HAVE HEARD ALL ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF DRINKING WATER. BUT THE LACK OF TASTE IS A ISSUE WITH ME..SO I WILL WORK OUT THINGS TO SUITE WHAT WORKS FOR ME FOR NOW. NO I AM NOT SYAING DO WHAT I DO. I AM DOING WHAT CAN WORK FOR ME UNTIL.....

5. EMOTIONAL/SPIRIT WILL HAVE USED TECHNIQUES FROM BECK FOR THE EMOTIONAL PART. STILL WORKING ON THEM DAILY.

NOW SPIRIT I HAVE BROUGHT A DAILY DEVOTIONAL READING THAT I READ EACH DAY. THE BIBLE STUDY I COULD ALWAYS IMPROVE ON AND I WILL SET SOME TIME ASIDE FOR IT.

THINGS I HAVE NOTICED SINCE STARTING BECK: I DO NOT ENJOY EATING OUT ANYMORE I WOULD RATHER COOK MYSELF. THIS WAY I KNOW WHAT IS IN THE FOOD AND HOW IT WAS PREPARED, I DO NOT EAT AS FAST AS I DID BEFORE. I CALL THIS A SUCCESS.

UNTIL THE NEXT TIME I AM OVER AND OUT.

This is for me! Helping the taste of WATER!

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

Add fresh fruit. Citrus fruits, such as lemons, limes, and oranges, are classic water enhancers, but other fruit flavors might also tempt your taste buds. Try crushing fresh raspberries or watermelon into your water, or adding strawberry slices. Cucumber and fresh mint are refreshing flavors as well ó especially in summer.

Make it bubbly. Many people prefer sparkling to still water. If plain old water isn't inspiring to you, try a naturally effervescent mineral water ó which will give you the added benefit of minerals. Or try bubbly seltzer, a carbonated water. You can add fresh fruit or natural juice flavors to your seltzer, as suggested above, or look for naturally flavored seltzers at your local market. If you become a seltzer devotee, you might want to consider getting a seltzer maker for your home.

Get creative with ice. Some say that ice water tastes better than water served at room temperature. If that's so, flavored ice cubes may make an even better drink. Use some of the flavoring suggestions above and start experimenting with fresh fruit, mint, or cucumber ice cubes. Simply chop your additive of choice, add it to your ice cube tray along with water, then freeze. You may also consider juice, tea, or coffee cubes. If you want to be more creative, use ice cube trays that come in fun shapes, like stars, circles, or even fish.

Add fast flavor. If you're looking for a quick-and-easy flavor booster, you might also consider sugar-free drink mixes, and flavor cartridges that can be used with your faucet filter system.

Drink tea. Herbal, fruit, green, white, and red teas are generally considered to be better for you than black teas (or coffee, for that matter) because they contain little to no caffeine. And there are countless flavors of these teas to choose from. Start with the selection at your local market or health food store. If you're interested in pursuing more exotic flavors and sophisticated teas, start researching the vast array of specialty teas that come from all parts of the globe.

AH, well you know my stand on water and additives.
Remember, once you add something to the water, it is NO LONGER water. It becomes something else, like lemonade, soup or tea.
Tea dehydrates. Soups have a lot of sodium (A LOT) even those that claim 'low sodium'. Make sure you read those labels.
The trick with PURE water is that you eventually DO get use to it. I never thought it was possible to seriously crave water - yet today I do!
Do what you need to do in order to up that intake, but remember in the end, if you add something to it, it is no longer water.

I had first went to the HEALTH FOOD STORE and bought bouillon for $4 that was in a "paste" and it was SO good, but I gained 6# in one day. (Remember one gallon of water weighs 8.34#) so my feet and legs were SO swollen. I used the rest of the jar up in soups for my family, and that is why I went back to the HFS to get the no-sodium. It DOES taste bland, but I can't deal with the swollen legs. If you try the LOW sodium, it is probably easier to get use to first.

I went to the Health Food Store and bought no-sodium bouillon. 4 packs makes a quart of HOT drink with only 40 calories. It gets some of my water down, and it is a change of flavor in cold weather. I'm not a "water lover" at all.

Revisiting beck principals over the Holidays

Monday, December 08, 2008

It is a hard time for most people these days. The holidays bring so many not so great goodies. Today I was offered Cheese curls. Man I could almost taste them and how they melt into your mouth. Whew!! hd the main sabotager. I have asked many time why does he offer them to me knowing I am diabetic and try to lose weigh. All he says is that he is just being nice. I tell him to be nice in another way. PLEASE! of course I said no thank you even though my mouth wanted to say yes.

In the beck work book it would say along with other things remove yourself from the situation. So this is why I am blogging. I told him that I was going to write about him. emoticon. So when one of your main support systems breaks down you prop up another one. I am revisiting day 7 in my beck book. Arrange Your environment: meaning have your family put tempting foods out of sight. But when this is out of the question. You solve your problems in other ways. I am an at home mom so for now I do not have to deal with work and people bringing food in a workplace. But I do remember how we had parties just about every week when I did work . Glad I don't have to deal with that now. But I do have to deal with the holidays. So Not only do I have to be on guard from others but myself.

My hd did say he was sorry and gave me a big hug and kiss. So deep inside I don't think he meant harm. Just doesn't think, and he is not trying to change how he eat much. That is his call and I don't have the energy to try and change his mind. I have enough strength to keep myself in line and that is a job. But I know that Lord will give me strength and renew it daily.

So while these goodies are surrounding me I will try and resist them and have some healthy alternatives when the moments arrive.

Now on to other matters I visited my dr. last week in November Told him of my sugars being up and all he could say is the 4 pounds I gained since I saw him last time is a factor. I did let him see my sugars record booklet. He knows that in the past controlled my sugars by diet and exercise. He refuses to put me on meds. He says they make you gain weight. So I am on a mission.

One of his nurses ask me if I could lose 10 pounds by Jan 5 this is what I did emoticon! The nurse said that she would join me and she even ask the appointment desk to join us. So the heat is on! emoticon. Saturday was just awful and I have gotten back on track. I have put some mini challenges to help me. This dr. wants to keep things real he even wants to see my food record and exercise record. WHEW DOGGIE! I will give it my best shot.

1. Try and start drinking 7 glasses of water.

2. strength training twice a week Hey this is a beginning. rotating upper lower and core.

3. take vitamins.

4. Aerobics 5 days a week. 30-45 min. Saturday is optional but I usually exercise on bike. Sundays are planning day for me to draw charts, etc. reassess my goals.

5. Revisit my beck book as much as I need to.

6. restart reading beck cards. This one has been challenging for me.

7. Weigh weekly (I hate this one) but I gotta do it. Beck says use the scale as an information tool in measuring how much to eat. So I'll give it a try.

This was just a way to revert my attention from those cheese curls and I don;t want them anymore.

Beck says to give yourself credit even for the small things you accomplish . So I will do that for not eating cheese curls. I am a work in progress. Am I blaming hd for offering those cheese curls absolutely NOT.. the choice was mine and this time a passed. By the way any he is a good guy. Just does not watch what he eats and he wants me to join he not any more I am a woman on a mission. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon. I'll try and concrete on those goodies in this picture.

HABITS

Thursday, October 30, 2008

In order for us to make or break a habit we must consciously be aware of what we are doing until we change permanently; therefore, we no longer have to think, we just do. If we donít learn how to cue ourselves to change than we fall prey to living the same way we always have.

WOW I HAVE A WAYS TO GO ON MY EMOTIONAL EATING BATTLE I SEEN THIS QUOTE ON THE DAILY SPARK BOARDS. THIS IS SO TRUE. STILL WORKING TOWARDS THIS. NEVER STOP!!!!!!!!
THURSDAY WAS A TRUE STRUGGLE. NOTHING THAT IS WORTH THE FIGHT COMES EASY!! emoticon. GIRL YOU GONNA MAKE IT!!!

Trying a new fruit....

MUSCADINES ARE A VERSION OF A GRAPE THAT GROWS WILD IN THE SOUTH. GRAPES ARE VERY BENEFICIAL THEY CAN PREVENT CANCER. ACCORDING TO NCI DR. JEFFERY GREEN A SCIENTIST SAYS THAT THE SKIN OF THE MUSCADINE CAN INHIBIT CANCER CELL GROWTH OF THE PROSTATE, ALSO THEY HAVE POTENTIAL OF PREVENT CANCERS IN THE BREAST AND OTHER VARIETIES OF CANCER. IF MADE OF WINE THEY AID IN SLEEP, REDUCES CHOLESTEROL, AND HELPS WITH IRON DEFICIENCY.

I SAID IN MY BECK TEAM THAT I WANTED TO TRY NEW FRUITS AND VEGGIES AND IN COMES MY HD WITH A GIANT BAG OF MUSCADINES AND THEY TASTE GOOD. THEY ARE BENEFICIAL. GREAT!! IT FAR BETTER THAN THE SO CALLED TREATS HE USUALLY BRING IN. emoticon.

I ALSO HAD TO RESEARCH HOW MANY CALORIES THEY HAVE. I CONSIDER THEM THE DOWN SOUTH'S (AS THEY CALL IT THE COUNTRY)) HEALING FOOD AND THEY WERE NOT LISTED HERE.
