7 Reasons to Drink Green Tea

Posted Wed, Feb 20, 2008, 10:30 am PST

The steady stream of good news about green tea is getting so hard to ignore that even java junkies are beginning to sip mugs of the deceptively delicate brew. You'd think the daily dose of disease-fighting, inflammation-squelching antioxidants--long linked with heart protection--would be enough incentive, but wait, there's more! Lots more.

Several polyphenols - the potent antioxidants green tea's famous for - seem to help keep cancer cells from gaining a foothold in the body, by discouraging their growth and then squelching the creation of new blood vessels that tumors need to thrive. Study after study has found that people who regularly drink green tea reduce their risk of breast, stomach, esophagus, colon, and/or prostate cancer.

Got a cut, scrape, or bite, and a little leftover green tea? Soak a cotton pad in it. The tea is a natural antiseptic that relieves itching and swelling. Try it on inflamed breakouts and blemishes, sunburns, even puffy eyelids. And that's not all. In the lab, green tea helps block sun-triggered skin cancer, whether you drink it or apply it directly to the skin - which is why you're seeing green tea in more and more sunscreens and moisturizers.

Having healthy blood pressure - meaning below 120/80 - is one thing. Keeping it that way is quite another. But people who sip just half a cup a day are almost 50 percent less likely to wind up with hypertension than non-drinkers. Credit goes to the polyphenols again (especially one known as ECGC). They help keep blood vessels from contracting and raising blood pressure.

Green tea may also keep the brain from turning fuzzy. Getting-up-there adults who drink at least two cups a day are half as likely to develop cognitive problems as those who drink less. Why? It appears that the tea's big dose of antioxidants fights the free-radical damage to brain nerves seen in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

The younger and healthier your arteries are, the younger and healthier you are. So fight plaque build-up in your blood vessels, which ups the risk of heart disease and stroke, adds years to your biological age (or RealAge), and saps your energy too. How much green tea does this vital job take? About 10 ounces a day, which also deters your body from absorbing artery-clogging fat and cholesterol.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Turns out that green tea speeds up your body's calorie-burning process. In the every-little-bit-counts department, this is good news!

DO, Green tea has a lot of good qualities, but be careful. My step-Grandmother started drinking it. The doctors believe it could possibly be the cause for her heart jumping rethum (? spelling). They have stopped her heart twice to get it back in rythum (? spelling). So scary. She was drinking up to 3 cups a day.

Second beginnings

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Well I started not to even post anything today. My cal in take wasn't so great yesterday.

Today is a new day and no I am not excusing my self or am I going to drag around because went over either. Attitude is everything.

There is a song by Marvin Sapp that says Praise will confuse the enemy. It is true. I will still bless the Lord at all times and he praise will continually be on lips. He has brought me a long way. Marvin Sapp is a gospel songress and he is annointed, he sings worship and praise music which is my favorite. I like some traditional quartet music like Tommy Ellison and others. I am from the old school!!

Not posting is counterproductive. This new me is a daily work in process. Yesterday I finally had the strength to exercise 18 min of aerobics with weights. That may seem small in others eyes. If you only knew my story......... God is good. I have just recovered from a stubborn cold . Instead of saying something further negative about yesterdays eating, I did have 33 grams of fiber. I am proud that I did get to exercise for 18 min it is better than nothing.

I give God praise for the little things in life.

Day 1

Sunday, February 17, 2008

This day I had a high time in the Lord and his presence was thick in the house of the Lord this morning. And again I was strength and renewed. Thank you Jesus for your saving grace and your power. I give you praise.

I just started reading the Beck Diet Books and I am just being accountable as to what I ate. This evening I was in cal range (((shocker))). Well Sundays are easy as I am not home to eat. I am in worship service. I ate 1,496 cal and my fiber was not as high as last time I was here only 22 grams but I wasn't here to eat more food, and that is a good thing.

Sometimes we all need a goof day, mine was today and I will pay tomorrow but did those french fries and quarter pounder taste good! After eating like I did for 56 years, I am not in the habit of being a healthy eater and so I tell myself, self, once a month, eat something salty and greasy and enjoy it. So I do. Then for 29 days I eat good and do not miss the salt and grease.

You are doing great and with God in charge you are going to reach all your goals

Blessings and prayers and love

learning every day

Friday, February 15, 2008

Yes I just learned that school will be out Friday. I'll have to plan out my meals for sure. I know these teenage boys will eat everything but the kitchen sink a long with my little one who is 10.

Oh well.. today I ordered the 3 hour diet book (but wait I already had it but it got miss placed). It is where you eat every 3 hours 3 small meals and 2 or 3 snacks. It is simple and that is why I think I can do it. It is the least restrictive. As a diabetic I need variety I burn out easily. It will accompany the Beck Diet which I am doing. The Beck Diet is not really a diet but a more cognitive thing (it gets you thinking about what you eat and why you eat it.) Sounds like a winner to me. I am excited but a little fearful too. I have brought many diet books just to become dismayed and quit but as I said before not this time.

This time it has to be different. It has been a while now at sp and this weight has to come off.

tonight I went over cal range but I got 37 grams of fiber in. Doing better starting tomorrow.

Just keep on going till you find something that works for you. Your plan sounds like the one my dr. told me to do. Keeps the metabolism going and burning...

Now if I just followed my own and dr's advice...LOL

Have a great week end sweetie!
