Friday the 13th Interesting Facts

Thursday, July 12, 2012

- Fear of Friday the 13th dates back to Nordic Mythology. Many of their
thirteen Gods met with violent deaths, such as Loki, the trickster.

- Ancient Romans regarded the number 13 as a symbol of death, destruction and
misfortune.

- A witch's coven consists of 13 members.

- Tarot card number 13 is the Death Card, depicting the Grim Reaper (although it
is read as transition or change and not literal death).
- Hotels rarely have a room number 13. Usually called 12 A or 14. Same with
floors of buildings and the elevators without a #13 button. Highways will
sometimes skip exit 13 altogether also.

- There are 13 steps leading to the gallows.

- There are 13 knots in a hangman's noose.

- The guillotine blade falls 13 feet.

- The driver of Princess Diana hit pillar #13 when she was killed in Paris, France. emoticon emoticon

Hmmm.... Coincidence? (Have indeed often thought it downright funny!)

Hey - I'd not even thought about today being the 13th. However, in my family, 13 is an awesome number. My dad was born on September, Friday the 13th; I was born on March, Friday the 13th; I have two neices that tried -one being born on February, Thursday the 12th & the other on October Thursday the 12th. They almost made it. I also have 3 aunts that were born on Friday the 13th - SO we look at the positive side of the number and consider it a blessing!!!

Joke of the week - LAWS OF COMPUTING

Saturday, July 07, 2012

When computing, whatever happens, behave as though you meant it to happen.

When you get to the point where you really understand your computer, it's probably obsolete.

The first place to look for informationis in the section of the manual where you'd least expect to find it.

When the going gets tough, upgrade. A complex system that doesn't work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked just fine.

A computer program will always do what you tell it to do, but rarely what you want it to do. emoticon

What's your name again?

Wednesday, July 04, 2012

I'm feeling terrible with a sinus headache and came across
this joke which made me smile. I hope you enjoy it too.

Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades.
Over the years they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures.
Lately, their activities had been limited to playing cards a few times a week.

One day when playing cards, one looked at the other and said,
"Now don't get mad at me. I know we've been friends for a long time,
but I just can't think of your name. I've thought and thought, but I
can't remember it. Please tell me what your name is."

Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just stared
and glared. Finally she said,
"How soon do you need to know?.

emoticonHere's to friendship. emoticon

Loved this joke! I have days like that all too often...I went to take my dogs out for a walk a few nights ago and my husband asked me why I was taking the wooden cutting board too! I had just stepped out to the patio and was bringing the cutting board in and forgot it was tucked under my arm.

I hope you are feeling better with that sinus headache.

Back online again.

Saturday, June 30, 2012

Hello again.
I have not been Sparking for a while, but I am so glad to day that
I now have Internet and don't have to rely on going to a Public
Library to keep in touch.

I was away in the US and Canada for 12 weeks and I have already
been back 11 weeks. Seems like I was in a dream.

I have been busy moving and it was tough packing and unpacking all
by myself. I am working more hours at the school and happy to say
that I am enjoying being in the Special Education Unit. I have really
learned to love the kids with special needs and am learning a lot about
myself in the process. It is both challenging and rewarding at the same time.

I used to take so much for granted and now I realise how lucky I am to have
what I have. My health above all. So what are a few aches and pains?
I feel that caring for others less fortunate is both a privilege and an honour.

I Am happy to say that my son is back from the US and will continue his
studies at his local University. Which brings me to my dilemma. I am sue
to start University next semester but I'm not sure if I can afford to as working more hours will not work in with the course time-tables. And I need to work the extra hours in order to afford the rent...

Anyway, things will work out and I need to focus on staying healthy and
eating right as well as keeping up my exercise. My knee is giving me trouble
and I find that the only exercise I can do is te walking. I will get an X-ray on
my knee next week, so I'm hoping that it will be OK.

We had a few cold winter days last week but yesterday and today it was glorious
and sunny and makes one feel good to be alive. I went shopping with a few friends yesterday and today went to Brisbane and caught up with my brother and sister-in-law and my favourite aunt. Got to shop at the Greek Deli and stocked up on my pulses and nuts. I even had a $10 voucher from a department store and bought a pair of undies for 45cents. Pretty smart I thought.

Today was the 5km walk for the Gold Coast Marathon and tomorrow is the actual Marathon, so I wish everybody luck. The weather is just perfect.

I just wanted to say I was back and that I have missed you all.
I am glad to be back amongst my Spark family.
Have a great weekend and SMILE.

I'm so glad you have your internet back. I hope things calm down for you soon. Moving is always stressful.

I think you are the perfect person to help these children. My son always thought it was very rewarding to be assigned to this group.

It sounds like you will have quite a challenge coming up with working and class scheduling.

My M.D. insists that walking it the only exercise anyone ever really needs and that few people do enough of it.

Your shopping trip sounded fun. I love a bargain.

Welcome back, GF!!

Well, Anna, welcome back, we missed you. I hope you don't mind me telling you, but when it's anything to do with your legs, your body is telling you that you are not moving forward as you should...now, just stand back and have a look at yourself and your recent journey....how far have you come? Did you learn any lessons all through it? It seems to me that you're on your way, so stop doubting yourself, and know you are a strong woman, know that you ARE your Soul, your Guide and your Angel, all rolled into one, and these aspects of you are telling you to be kind to yourself, and to be positive. A way to do this is to pretend you are an Angel, overlooking you...look at things dispassionately, and try to give advice to you, then, as yourself, imagine what your bestest friend would tell you to do, if they had all the facts as you know them, and know you as well as you know you....now make a decision from those aspects, and get rid of any fears you may have, just relax, and don't fight the process, just go with the flow....I know you can do it, you are powerful...you will find that the further you go along the Spiritual Path of Enlightenment, the less your body will hurt, and your abundance will increase....use your heart always to look at things, not in a poor me way but for your own love for yourself...
I'm so sorry that you had to do all that packing & unpacking yourself, must have been awful....been there, almost did all of that....but I called in a favour...and help came to the rescue, but I remember how awful it was to feel on your own....wish that hadn't had to happen, but you're almost all settled now, so please relax, that's all in the past now, if thought of it come back, visualise yourself cutting the ties behind you, stopping it dragging you down, have more days like your shopping & meeting with family & friends, you must do things that make you happy inside....

I send you love and healing energy....must go now, almost bedtime...Sweet Dreams, dearest girl....I love your new job, you will get heaps out of it for your own Spiritual Journey....

I love you, Anna....chin up girl, you can do it...
