2nd annual stomach flu!

Looking at my calendar from last year, it was nearly the same time (early Feb) that I had the stomach flu and was puking my brains out. I'm finally over the crud from last week and while it was NICE to see the scale drop 7lbs in 2 days, I knew it wouldn't last. Dehydration is not fun! But I'm back to feeling human again, and even after a week of not worrying if french fries and gatorade were the only things that sounded appetizing I'm still weighing a 1 lb loss for the week. Hurrah!!

So February is nearly here and I need to plan some goal for the month. I'm doing better at drinking water (even if I don't log it here every day) but I'll keep working on that. February will be Green Smoothie Month. I did a 14 day green smoothie challenge and really felt great (after a few days to adjust to all that fiber!). I had more energy, felt more alert, just overall healthier. Sooooo.... my morning will be 1 glass of water followed by a green smoothie for breakfast. I'll take some english muffins or whole grain bread to work with a small jar of peanut butter so have as my mid-morning snack (I can't completely give up my comfort food breakfast of peanut butter toast & coffee). But I need to use the pwnin' hackin' awesome super blender that I splurged on with my holiday bonus more regularly and NOT just have husband use it to make milkshakes (which I refuse to drink)

Overall it's been a good week. I have a few days where I went over my calories but never more than 500. That's a major accomplishment!! I've tried out a few classes at the gym and mapped out some routes in the neighborhood to walk.

I would like to get to the point where I can gauge my calories without having to calculate everything - come up with meals, snacks that I know are within my calorie limits. Right now I'm trying to find out what I can switch for healthier choices.

Fiber is a wonderful thing!! I've used fiber supplements to help feel full without snacking constantly.

Yesterday at work, a co worker was telling me how her brother lost 160 lbs by limiting his calorie intake to 1200 and walking daily (3 miles). I let my husband know and one of his co workers is willing to give it a try. They're going for 1500 calories daily though. I've changed my nutrition goal to 1200-1580 and will try to keep within that limit (hopefully closer to 1200).

This morning, calculating my peanut butter toast breakfast (2 toasts and cups of coffee instead of my normal 1 toast & cup) ... I've eaten 1/2 of my 1200 limit already! I'm going to need to figure out small filling meals that I can eat 4-5 times a day.

Its nearly the end of 2008 and I'm weighing more now than when I joined here in July. I'm taking a break from belly dancing (for financial reasons) and I've gained 15 lbs since our Oct Fall Showcase. I joined a gym mid-December (it's actually cheaper than dance classes!) and have taken a few zumba classes.. those were great fun! But with the holidays and a few icy days, I haven't had time to get to the gym.

So... I'm starting over .. Here's my 2009 goals:

I'm going to journal my food. I know that's the one thing I don't want to bother with that will probably benefit me the most!

I'm not drinking Diet Coke at work. I've printed out an article about how diet sodas can cause you to crave more sugar and the health concerns of aspartame. I'm back to drinking water at work.

I'd like to go veg but honestly, I'm not the best in the kitchen. Except when it comes to jello shots... I rock at making jello shots! I'd like to try to cook some simple veg recipes and find some easy & quick to cook meals that my family will enjoy.

If I don't get to the gym for a class, I'll walk either at the gym on a treadmill or at home in the neighborhood.

I'm adding SparkPeople to my webpage tabs at home & at work. I'll probably only log my food here every 2-3 days. I don't want to get overburdened with keeping my food journal but I need to get an eyeball of calories & nutrition. I eat way more than I think, and I think I don't eat that much to begin with....

Logging my food is the hardest but most useful thing that I do! I am always tempted to not log something because it doesn't have THAT many calories. But those things do add up so I am gonna take the extra minute and put everything!

I sort of blew off the weekend - I was taking my daughter to an anime convention and knew it was going to be a 'free for all' weekend! emoticon Now it's time to get serious .....

I do okay during the AM, and up to lunchtime. In the afternoon, if I'm bored at work, I start getting the munchies. I took some healthy snacks but still ended up with a handful of tootsie roll migits from the front desk. Not too horrible as far as candy goes, but I wasn't hungry, I was bored. That's one of my triggers.

I'm also working on doing a little bit of some exercise every day. I'll do wall push ups in the bathroom at work, I did the laying on your stomach & raise the exerise ball leg thing that was the featured exercise. That actually hurt!! I ditched dance class tonight - My back was sore yesterday and I didn't want to agrivated it anymore. I did walk though... little changes, and all that...

I'll add making a healthy alternative list to my 101 lists.... I saw an article that mentioned to add veggies to your diet, have a V8 at 3pm instead of a diet coke... how did the article know I grab a diet coke at 3pm!!! So, tomorrow, it'll be a V8 instead... I can't say I've ever craved a V8, I'm really not a big fan of tomato juice but I'll try it!!

    I like spicey V8 juice but only every now and then. I have also tried their new V8 flavors that have veggies and fruits. They are really good too.
