Boob NSV!

Thursday, July 31, 2014

So last night as I was getting ready for bed I noticed something. Now I am not good at noticing if me or anyone else has lost weight. The only way I know is if the scale or my clothes tell me. Well as I looked in the mirror I noticed that there was MUCH less fat hanging over my bra under my arms!!! I had to take a double take! emoticon I was like HOLY CRAP.....it was THAT noticeable to me! YAY!! emoticon

Something else I noticed the other day was.......I have CLEAVAGE!! I have never had cleavage before!! emoticon Just one more NSV for me to focus on when the scale is being too slow on the downward slide for my liking!

Have a great day Sparkies!!

I know how you feel. I think it is great that I no longer hang over the sides or bulge in the middle. Now some would say I should have gotten a better fitting bra before, but I am cheap. It is so great that a 44DD now fits perfectly. I love it. emoticon

Weigh in day!

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

So today was my weigh in for the week. This last week I have really increased my steps and exercise. I am eating around 1500 calories a day which I feel comfortable at, not too little, not too much. Although Sparkpeople and other internet calculators say I should be eating much more. emoticon emoticon I was really hoping to see 257# with how hard Ive been working. Alas, I was 258.0. Ok, I will be happy with that since I was only an OUNCE away from 257! I lost 3# last week so I will be happy with that. emoticon Im thinking of taking the day off from exercise today to rest my knee....been bothering me the last couple of days. I have become addicted to my glow getter awards for my spark tracker tho so that might nag at me! I do know how important it is tho to give my body a rest day. emoticon Make it good day fellow sparkies!

OOOOOOO so CLOSE!

Sunday, July 27, 2014

I have really amped up my exercise and steps this past week. I usually exercise about an hour a day and then am fairly sedentary the rest of the day. I have really tried to work on this this last week. I have the spark tracker and monitor my steps everyday faithfully. I usually get a silver medal award for the week. This week I was 600 steps away from a gold medal award! UGH! I am not beating myself up tho as the first few days of the week I didnt even reach 8000 steps each day! I cant remember now why but I really amped up my steps the rest of the days. I did, however, beat my record from the week before so Im pretty happy with that! Yesterday I even logged 15,000 steps! emoticon I went for a 3.5 mile walk yesterday afternoon and then, because I promised my boxer Jakey, I took him for a shorter walk last night plus did 20 minutes on my bike! YEEEEHAAAA!! My aim this week is to keep up this pace. I have also started only weighing myself once a week. I was a daily weigh-er. I am hoping I see bigger numbers on the scale with just once a week weigh-ins. At any rate, I FEEL better which is important too. I feel better about myself knowing that Im not just sitting around all day long. (working on my tv addiction). I am hoping to start the core nursing classes in January and really would like to lose a significant amount of weight by then to help boost my confidence and self esteem. I am preparing myself mentally for when I am in school full time, that I also need to make time for exercise. Losing weight and getting my nursing degree are both very high priorities for me at this point in my life so I want to do everything I can to reach both of those goals. It helps tremendously that I dont have to work outside the home. I am truly blessed in that aspect. emoticon
It is a GORGEOUS day here today so I think I will head outside for a nice long walk! Have a great Sunday everyone!!

I'm glad to hear that things are going well with you& that you are feeling great! :D I'm a daily weigher myself. Sometimes I wonder if I should go to weekly, since my weight loss has really slowed down. I don't think I can help myself at this point, though! lol. It's like clockwork.. wake up, bathroom, then scale!

I love that you have all these great little goals with your steps. Being able to break your own records is awesomely motivating! I always feel great when I get close to beating my personal best on the bike!

Good for you for pursuing nursing. I am a nurse, and no matter what there will always be a way to use those skills.

Wishing you all the best.

What do you all think?

Friday, July 25, 2014

I have my fitness tracker and nutrition tracker set to sync so the more exercise I do, the more I can eat. I am wondering how accurate this is? Does anyone have any thoughts? My current weight is about 258 and my nutrition tracker says I can have, on most days when I do my 60 minutes of bike/elliptical and strength training, that I can have 2500 to 2700 calories and still lose weight. I find this to be hard to do. I am ok with just eating around 1500-1600 calories a day with very little carbs...no more than 50-60 per day with higher protein. I do not eat any wheat or wheat products, oats or oat products. I seem to lose weight either way. Slowly but still usually on the downward trend. Just dont want to hurt my metabolism. Any thoughts?

My vote is firmly in the "you know your body best" and these are just GUIDELINES. You know what calorie range works best for you. YOu know what gets you results AND lets you remain healthy. So . . . view the calories suggested as a RANGE . . . a SUGGESTED RANGE and use it as just that.

Good luck and you're doing good things for your body.

I think the way it works is that when you are burning all them calories they are added back into your overall calories allowed. So if you are only eating like the 1500 calories and not compensating for the calories you are burning you are not eating enough. Its hard to keep a happy medium between the carbs, protein, fats etc. I am finding myself that its not easy that it takes a lot of work. I have also found that its not easy to eat all the food you need to meet that calorie goal. So l would try to keep as close to the calories spark is giving you to keep your metabolism going! I look at it this way in essence l am still doing my 1200 1500 calories just burned off a whole lot so l can have a small treat and not only that you are adding fuel to burn them pounds off. Lots of luck and blessings on your weight loss journey! emoticon

Most trackers allow you to scale how fast you want your weight loss to be. I've noticed with spark and a few others that even when you set it to healthy weight loss, the calories seem to be kind of high.

Upping your calories can be beneficial when you reach a plateau and you are very active. You are getting a good amount of exercise, but if you are still losing weight with your preferred calorie range right now, I don't see any reason to increase calories.

I see the trackers as rough guidelines. They don't know your body, and even if you do everything correctly and stall out, they can't tell you why. My tracker says I should have lost almost 5 pounds this month, but I haven't even lost half that. Why? It could be due to me overestimating calories burned, or underestimating calories consumed. It could also just be my weird body used to my workout!

So you see, there's all sorts of different things involved there! My starting weight was around 250, and I shot for 1400-1500 for about a year, working out 45min on the bike, 6 days a week and cycled my calories so that I had one higher calorie day a week. That's what worked for me. I'm not saying that's what you should do, just what I did and a little backstory on where I'm coming from. From my personal experience, it sounds like you are right on track and doing everything right! One of the hard parts of all of this is finding what works for you. I've learned that no matter how many articles I read or tools I use, I still end up having to tweak everything for my body. It's not a bad thing, though!

Gym and gardening

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

So I set up a mini "gym" in my basement. I have my new hybrid trainer and a tv along with some dumbells! HA! But at least it is a start. I have not been down there for a few days as I have been gardening for several hours a day and have been getting tons of exercise that way. I have one of the brown-est thumbs around....but I also have almost 2 acres of land that was a blank canvas. Then I met my wonderful friend, Denise who has 2 acres of JUST gardens! I tried to hire her as my gardener but she told me I had to do it myself...WITH her guidance! So over the last couple of years I have managed to plant 5 small gardens. Yesterday I finished the 5th. They actually look pretty good! Im impressed! Except that Denise informed me the other day that not ONLY do I have to water the gardens....now I have to FEED them too! I tell ya, those plants are like KIDS! emoticon They ARE pretty though and help to color the canvas a bit. So now that I have finished the latest garden, I am back to my mini gym today! emoticon I have also been watching Extreme Weight Loss on Tuesday nights. What an inspirational show! It always renews my willpower! I am a HUGE TV junkie and am trying to limit my time in front of it, which is part of the reason why I decided to add another garden.
Well, off to my mini gym. Have a sparktacular day all! emoticon

What types of gardens do you have? I just have some container plants this year.
The mini home gym sounds great!

Good for you on setting up your home gym. Consider a resistance band. Cheap and useful AND portable!

Great about the gardens and that your friend guided you to set them up. YUP . . . they ARE like having kids. Want/need attention and they let you know it!

Enjoy. HUGS
