Something To Share!

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Today is the first time I have viewed this commercial about texting while driving. Although it is very graphic, it is well worth sharing with your teen drivers or anyone that you know who text while driving. You could very well help save someones life by sharing.

I agree with the comment below that it should be mandatory for people getting their learner's permits. Also, for EVERYONE RE-NEWING their drivers license.

I've just finished watching it, and my heartrate is through the roof.
Yes, I have done it, I'm not proud of it, and I know better now.
A couple of years ago, especially when I did not have any children, you don't think much of it.
But the truth is clear and for all to see..

Thank you for this link, I wil forward it to all my friends and family.

Let's hope it will reduce the amount of people texting whilst driving!

Dealing with a Teen!

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

My oldest son turned 13 last week. He needs braces, but is determined to NOT have them. I am so tired of arguing with him over every little thing. He has been someone that is hard to get along with for close to a year now....yes, he thinks he is grown...don't most at that age? I am sure that alot of it is due to hormones and not knowing how to deal with all the changes that he is going through, but come on give a mom a break...lol

Any advice as to how to win him over with braces would greatly be appreciated!

UPDATE: My son got his braces on Monday 8/31....do you think "SHE" might have helped him make the decision...lol

I didn't have boys but girls. They both had braces and didn't mind getting them. Most of their classmates had them. But I will tell ya that the years are so hard with teens. Just keep reminding yourself somehow we survive those years. Teens really think they know it all!

I have no advice for the braces, but I have survived puberty with 2 sons and currently have a 3rd going through it. For boys the chemical part of puberty starts between 10 & 11. It is like having a new rooster in the hen house, and it doesn't help that the male brain is so "logical" even when being illogical. I finally got through to them by informing them that this may be their home, but it is my house, and their dad is the head bull. As a last resort I used "Well your dad's not here right now is he?" or "Your dad has to leave for work sometime". That usually shocked them back in line. If nothing else pray for grandchildren, I have taught my oldest son's son to let the air out of his dad's tires, and those are the only tires he touches, smart kid. I will be teaching my second son's kids to dig holes in the yard with spoons. My younger 2 have seen this and are leary of stupid stunts. Now if anyone has any advice on puberty with girls (my 11 yo is a girl) PLEASE send it my way, I was thinking maybe a 5 yr vacation for mom.

I'm going with this same thing with my son (he is 12). He is generally the most easy going, cooperative child, but, really does not want braces. (and EVERY other one of his friends has them, so, he wouldn't be the only one) I keep telling him get them now and they will be off before high school. He is convinced that they will straighten on there own. I'm going to check into the invisible ones.

    Hi Wendy,
My son has had braces since he was 18 - he's 23 now. Almost 5 years he has had them on and it wouldn't have been so long but he was 18 when he got them. He gave me a hard time from 13 to 18 and if he had had them on when he was young he wouldn't have had to wear them so long. The older the longer because the teeth have settled. May be that will help to convince your son?

lol I remember when I was 13, I WANTED braces! I think it was because I thought I would be "grown up" with them because that's what all the older kids had!
Since he obviously does not share my attitude, I agree that the invisible braces just may be the way to go.
Good luck!

Invisible braces might be an option.

I HATE the dentist so I really have no advice as to how to handle things in that department with the dentist. Hope it all works out and quickly too.

Both of my boys had braces when the older one was 14 and the younger one was 10. They didn't want them but are so happy to have them off now. My daughter has been begging for braces for the past 3 years (she is 15). She needs them but we can't afford it right now. If you can afford it I say go for it now. They really won't want them when they are older. Tell him to think about how cool it will be with better teeth in a few years in high school rather than braces in high school. Plus my kids found out that so many kids have them it wasn't such a bit deal. The 2 years really flew by. Good luck. My youngest is 13 now and boy it's hard. You will get through it!

My son finally agreed to braces and he is 20!!! He had them put on last week. He'll have to wear them a year and a half.

Tell your son to do it now because it will less expensive before they are 18, I think, and the prices go up every year or every few years so it's better to do it now. Tell him he doesn't want to have to deal with braces when he is older!!! It's better to get it over with while he's younger.

Good Luck. I hope you can get him to go to the orthodontist soon!

We always have to pick our battles with our kids.

Hiya ... thanks for the invite :)
Still maneuvering my way around Spark. FOR SURE go with the New Balance ... I did a little while ago and they were by far the best fitness investment I could have made. I was having an enormous amount of leg pain wearing old barn shoes haha. I spent a bit of dosh on my NB but the difference is like night and day, I can go for miles now :) I would say try to go for a 'running' shoe rather than a cross trainer just because they will give you more support and cushioning. But even a NB cross trainer would be fine, great shoe indeed. emoticon

Personally, I'm a New Balance fan, so I'd tell you to choose the one in the upper left (which seem to be the only NB pair there). BUT, I also make it a point to try not to get involved in fashion decisions that women (or men for that matter) need to make - so good luck with this one - it's your choice!! :-)

Personally, I think you should run a mile in pair #1 walk a mile in pair#2 run another mile in pair #3 and do a cool down walk in pair #4. That way you can break them all in and not show favoritism. You will also fit in a little rest and a stretch while you are changing shoes. For extra added cardio you could run home and change for each shoe change too.
Ok so I am in a weird mood. Lucky you I would love to find a great shoe sale like yours. Im insanley jealous! fun blog!

I guess it really depends on what you wear on the top half of you. But for sure you are set for the next year. And you do not have to wear one color with all of your workout clothes. So many decisions. Way to go on saving money for something you would have to buy anyway.

You silly girl! But no really, good for you for treating yourself to four new pairs of running shoes. The truth is that even if you take care of a pair of runners and they still look good, they DO wear out as far as the soles and the support.

Which one for today? I like them all and it looks like you can't go wrong! Enjoy your weekend!

Don't Quit!!!!

Donít Quit

When youíve eaten too much and you canít write it down,
And you feel like the biggest failure in town.
When you want to give up just because you gave in,
And forget all about being healthy and thin.
So What! You went over your points a bit,
Itís your next move that countsÖ.So donít you quit!
Itís a moment of truth, itís an attitude change.
Itís learning the skills to get back in your range.
Itís telling yourself, ďYouíve done great up till now.
You can take on this challenge and beat it somehow.Ē
Itís part of your journey toward reaching your goal.
Youíre still gonna make it, just stay in control.
To stumble and fall is not a disgrace,
If you summon the will to get back in the race.
But, often the strugglerís, when loosing their grip,
Just throw in the towel and continue to slip.
And learn too late when the damage is done,
That the race wasnít overÖ.they still could have won.
Lifestyle change can be awkward and slow,
But facing each challenge will help you grow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint in a cloud of doubt.
When youíre pushing to the brink, just refuse to submit,
If you bite it, write itÖ.But donít you quit!

A 6-pack and Guns!

Today starts my targeting of the "guns and a 6-pack". It will be a slow painful process, but I am willing to take the journey.....so here goes..... DAY 1

Ah Wendy - we should be working out together. Those are my 2 key target areas these days. Although, admittedly, the 6-pack is already there - just that the bottom 2 will never be seen lacking some cosmetic surgery (one can burn away fat, you can't exercise off skin though). As for the guns ...I'd love to have 'em, but was advised by my doc and trainer that I really don't have the physiology for them - not without steroids anyway. So the idea is to make 'em at least strong.

But I'm with ya there - keep on pumpin' and crunchin' (and truckin' of course :-)

When you get that 6-pack, I will pick up a 6-pack and meet you half-way. emoticon emoticon

My first thought when I saw the title to your blog was "Oh no! Does she have out of control teenagers too?!" Then, after a pause, I realized that this was probably still fitness related!! I think that this is a killer goal (get it, killer? 6-pack and guns? Nevermind lol). I think you'll have this one done in no time, with your determination!! I will be right here to cheer you on, with a 6-pack of my own. emoticon Bottled water, of course!

    You go, Girl!
A 4-pack could make me happy, though... Although I like the French translation for 6-pack, it's named Chocolate Bars (yes!), I think I might like it even better than a 4-pack :)
