Oh man, this has just been the best of weekends. My folks came up for a visit and we went on the most amazing whale watch you could ever hope for. Warm air, cool breeze, clear skies, smooth seas...and oh-em-gee did we see whales! A mother and calf humpback were doing these short dives, surfacing every 2-3 minutes and staying right by the boats. They were *so close*, and we even got a breach right alongside the boat! They were so close we could actually smell whale breath. I wish I could bottle the trip up and share it with everyone I know. The ship's naturalist was so excited about how the trip went that at one point he actually blurted out "folks, I'm running out of adjectives here - I hope you all realize what an amazing trip you're having!" It's going to be a happy memory for a long, long time.
Of course a day of whale watching and the subsequent trip to On The Border for dinner and 'Ritas set me back a bit on the whole "getting in shape" thing, but I had such a lovely time visiting with my parents and I was so blown away by the whales...I just feel rejuvinated and so, so very happy. Today it's back to healthy cooking, and there's a new "ballet workout" dvd for later this afternoon, but for now I'm just basking in whale watching joy.

Ah, there's nothing like a good night's sleep to turn a funk around. One more work day to get through, then my parents are coming up for a visit and a whale watch! The sun is shining, birds are chirping, my pants are falling down, and the fridge is full of lovely fresh produce. I feel like I could accomplish absolutely anything today. What a lovely morning indeed!

So I've been chugging right along, staying in my range and hitting most of my exercise goals (had to cut out jogging and cut back on walking, though, since I injured the tendon thingy on the bottom of my foot by walking too much in flip-flops...oops?) and the weight is just falling off. I'm down 8 pounds in three weeks! *Back flips and happy dance*!
Actually, the weight's coming off a little faster than expected so I'm making an effort to move into the higher end of my range now because hooooo boy, my body is seriously confused! TOM has arrived a bit early and I am just *all* over the place right now. My body needs to level back out before some unfortunate soul ends up at the unpleasant end of a very angry tirade. Heck, I nearly lost it yesterday over an empty reagent bottle! That is so not my usual style, and I'd really like to get back to being my normal sunny self sooner rather than later.
Right. So. Tonight, decaf green tea and and episode of Who. Oh yes. Fantastic. :) Then bedtime, after a few more pages of The Spark. Hey, at least I'm not craving chocolate! And I'm only two pounds away from meeting my first goal. Just have to get through the work week...

Holy moly! Okay, I almost always eat leftovers for lunch at work but I was in a rush this morning and didn't even remember to grab one of the Healthy Choice frozen meals I keep in my freezer for days like today. So this afternoon I stopped at Au Bon Pain and picked up a Mediterranean Wrap. It's more calories than I would normally eat for lunch but it's full of good stuff - or so I thought. Until I got home and put it in my tracker... and realized that I had eaten 1770 mg of sodium IN ONE MEAL! 1.77 grams. Grams!!! 1770 milligrams in one puny meal!!!!
To put that in perspective, I had 1400mg of sodium TOTAL yesterday. No wonder I had problems with high blood pressure before I started cooking things from scratch last year. I knew restaurant food had a lot of salt but not THAT much. Shoot, I could have stopped next door at Burger King and ordered large salted fries for just 500 calories and 850mg of sodium. Unbe-freaking-leavable.

Bacon and eggs is not something I indulge in often, but when I do I do it right. Check out this beauty of a breakfast!
One egg, two strips of bacon (broken in half to fit in the frying pan), a cup of fresh spinach, a couple olives, a bit of red bell pepper, a teaspoon of feta cheese, and cooked in a dab of olive oil instead of butter. Yum! And just 300 calories to boot.
