BLC spring fever story ~ motivational story of olympic proportion

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

well when i need an extra just push in the write direction and nobody is around. i try to read somehting about someone who was conquared with all odds against them because thats what i am feeling like right now. each persons journey isent the same everytime. it might appear easy but u dont knwo there whole journey from birth to death. somehtings might have been difficult for them. people may think a persons journey maybe be quick plus easy but it isent always easy and it does take lots of efort to get to your goals. soem goals can be donein a day but most cannot be so be patient.

I found an article about a crippled young grl named wilma... do u wanna know what happend to her in her lifetime? well wilma roudolf had some uncermountable odds to get over to be alive again. wilma was born in1940 with tons of siblings. 22 in fact. she was diagnosed with polio a crippling disease that confines u be unable to walk. have u ever had a doctor say well u will never be able to do something? have u ever felt that nobody thought u could turn it all around knowing ur potential? counting days turned into alot more then that into weeks. guess what weeks turned into. weeks turned into months and moths turned into yrs, she went to the doctors once a week by bus haveing her family haveing faith in wilma but not alot fo else haveing her family doing everything they can to help her. wilma thorugh the yrs have gone from messages, to braces on her legs, then special high tops, and then after 4 yrs she could walk again. her mom saw her bare foot playing so she just new that here dream came true again. she can walk again like she never had polio at all. at 8 is when she started to walk again.

so she turned herself sround in high school she started running and then turned olympian as well as gold medalist. 1956 melborn austraila olympics she did a relay 400m and in 1959 qualified for rome in 1960 with a world record plus 2 gold medals 100 as well as 200 16yrs after she was told she woudl never walk again. what a hero and special person!!! dont u think? she retired at 22 yrs but had a great carrer i think. wilma passed in 1994 from brain and throat cancer.

the lesson in the article but i took it as a lesson in my own mind is " Even when things seem hopeless, and even if people tell you that it's impossible, never, never give up".

this story reflecks like my life. every since i was little i had to take a bus to speach language and therapy once a week to boston because i had speach issues remembering things since i was 5yrs old. also i had to go to physical rehab so i can learn things like going on a bike at my own pace. for example balance and things like that. it wasent like i was mentally troubled. i was pretty smart but it just took me longer to learn things that other people were doing. so my mom and i had to go to these places everyweek. eventually i grew out of haveing these appointments but i still wasent fixed i guess. i had to do the work myself still. i just out grew the program. that was untill i was 14 so 9 yrs. i was still in special ed classes but the more i grew older the less i had because i got better at learning everything and studying things. u know i was a an athelete played sports for highschool untill i fell tumbleing down the bus i was on. no one did anything for me let me bleed untill i could walk on my own power. the bus drinver couldnt do anything for legal reason. i did everything then playing basketball for example. i was out for a few months after going to rehab. i had bruised muscles in my knee. also i have patella femoral syndrom now. my knee doesent groove in the knee cap right without a knee brace or knee tape. i have been in and out fo rehab 5 times since i was 16yrs old. i had alot fo hurdles for the better and it has made me better although when these things happened i felt why me. why on my own. i wanted to be independant and do it. people now would have neveer known my journey untill i tell people about it.

moral of the story is that everyone has a journey and never give up on your journey. also no matter how hard yours may seem there might be someelse who might have a more difficult one out there.

here si a link to the article i read to inspire and thank u for reading my story. www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivat

be more then just a survivor

bringing awareness to a condition that my mom might have is now more important then ever
since its a rare thing people might not even know about untill u have a disease that needs u take so many different blood tests. my mom janet davis is a survivor of plenty of things. she has a had a stroke along time ago, kidney disease, diabetis, and plenty of other things. u may know her as a sparker sort of because she is very busy monitering everything but i know her more as a mom. we have our days but we are there for eachother deep down no matter what. her screen name is tenaj772 on spark. i aprreciate all of your support and love through all. this is new to me but we have battled other diseases together so we can survive all.

here is some deffinitions of things in my blog.

cancer : NOUN
1. malignant tumor: a malignant tumor or growth caused when cells multiply uncontrollably, destroying healthy tissue. The different forms are sarcomas, carcinomas, leukemias, and lymphomas.

2. illness caused by tumor: the illness or condition that is caused by the presence of a malignant tumor

3. fast-spreading bad phenomenon: something, usually something negative, that develops or spreads quickly and usually destructively

MGUS is a condition that affects a type of white blood cell known as a plasma cell. Plasma cells are a type of white blood cell that produce special proteins, known as antibodies or immunoglobulins. These antibodies circulate in the blood, ready to attack any viruses and bacteria that may be present in the body. When an abnormally large amount of one particular antibody is produced, this is called monoclonal gammopathy. All the antibodies are identical.

Multiple myeloma, also known as plasma cell myeloma, is the second-most common cancer of the blood. It is the most common type of plasma cell neoplasm. Multiple myeloma accounts for approximately 1% of all cancers and 2% of all deaths from cancer. Multiple myeloma is a disease in which malignant plasma cells spread through the bone marrow and hard outer portions of the large bones of the body. These myeloma cells may form tumors called plasmacytomas. Eventually, multiple soft spots or holes, called osteolytic lesions, form in the bones. Bone marrow is the spongy tissue within the bones. The breastbone, spine, ribs, skull, pelvic bones, and the long bone of the thigh all are particularly rich in marrow. Bone marrow is a very active tissue that is responsible for producing the cells that circulate in the blood. These include the red blood cells that carry oxygen, the white blood cells that develop into immune system cells, and platelets, which cause blood to clot.

dear sparkers

u might or might not know my mom may potentially may have a rare cancer in the bone marrow but we dont know yet. she has taken all of the bood tests and is awaiting the results of them. now we know what its like when u have to wait wait and more waiting to see if u have to survive something else. the tests. it might take 2 weeks or so to come back. so when i get the results u guys will be the first to know. she will also have to do a bone scan and a bone marrow biopsy. u might wonder how we got here to cancer potential and thats a long one. everytime she goes to a doctor they do a test for anemia and they have been finding an abnormal protein for awhile but the level of the protei increased so much she was told to go to the hemotologist / oncology department. we learned that its ok to have the abnormal protein but the quanity is the key. it is ok to have that as i said before and the true true real technical wording of the is haveing an MGUS or MULTIPLE GAMMOPATHY OF UNDETERMINED SIGNIFICANCE. the protein is called an M protein. the doctor told us that people with the M protein each yr gains 1% chance of haveing this PLASMA CELL MYELOMA cancer after knowing u have the certain protein. eventually she will need to have a bone marrow biopsy in a few weeks and then after that they will tell us more. hopefully we will know sooner then later. we have never really have never talked about cancer before. maybe once with my step dad he had throat cancer but i was alittle kid. i have learned that some things u could have done nothing to prevent this. so we have to wait and move on. if this is the C word we will have to battle and win ti because cancer wont beat us. we are a strong unit and with all of u sparkers out there we can survive and pass by cancer. my mom is not acting any different then she useually does but alittle tired which might not be anything to do with this. thank u all i will post more later about how she is doing.,

Don't let it get you down my dad is 83 and has had multiple myeloma for over a year and a half. I'm 48 and was diagnosed with MGUS last fall I've come to believe that today is what is important - I don't have cancer today so I should focus on that and enjoy today. There are many people in the oncologists office I have seen who would gladly trade places with me - I owe it to them, and my wife, family and myself to make the most of every day.

Today is a good day.

R u ready for a winter meltdown? turkey challenge blog

Thursday, November 18, 2010

my fave question people ask me on here and elsewhere is what do u do when u need 2 kick it up a notch when your in a slump or when ur in a slow part of your weigh loss.

i was reading this article on this to do when ur needing motivation and things to do for motivation... it reminded me of what i do when i am in a slump because i am not in them alot but i was trying to figure out if i was in one. people ask me what do i do to bounce back from a slump of a slow period or a plateau. i dont always am in them but i am always told to just start over. start over like your brand new. Refresh u i would say and by paying more attention to serving sizes. sometimes i get used to it and the portion grows gradually. portion distortion for sure. Sometimes it is excerciseing i do alot of it at times and then sometimes i am so not in the mood to do what or how much for the week before. i am not always consistent with the number but i am with what it is. i am starting to love to walk but it is getting colder now. Defiantly not fall anymore.
i usually look back at everything i wanted, eat and what i did that week that i had a slump or disappointment because i always look back at woulda coulda shoulda things. i write everything down constantly that's why i am off and on here. it helps me to be organized and keep a memory of everything just in case i am in a slump. it keeps me focused and on track. i also like to read articles just to keep me refreshed of what i did in the beginning if i am in a plateau. when i am in a slump also i try to think if its because i am trying to hard or not hard enough. starting over helps. some weeks i go gung hoe and when i do that i have a slump or disappointment that week its usually the next week it appears to be a good result.

my best advice for anyone would not to give up. never give up through all tough times and never take your good weeks for granted. u will get through all of the rough times w/ supportive like people on spark and other support systems. if ur board to death in whatcha doing and eating change it up. try spices. i noticed when i was starting to lose more weight i was more in tuned into eating. maybe spark sparked it but i am proud to have more sense of awareness to everything. paying more attention to when i am really hungry and just if i am bored trying to find something to make my time go by.. i have lost almost 40 lbs since i have been here. no i am not a resident expert but i feel i have alot of it down pat. there are days that i mess up but dont we all. i thought it was time to tell people more about what i do and so u can get to know me.

i am such a hard worker here and in my own life. i do have a life not just on here but i do love coming here everyday. i love being a sparked i do love being a \role model here for the new sparklers and others. all my friends here are great. my lemons are hard workers to and have taught me lots about me... when i am having a not so great day there here on my page cheering me up. when the going gets tough i know who has got my back. i think that's important to have people around u to support u when u are having a slump... someone to help u when u need it the most. we can do this no matter how astronomical it is yes we can. take it bit by bit little by little and u will get there. i didnt lose these lbs overnight. u didnt gain all of it overnight so why do some people think it will just go away quicker then it was put on.
