Had a Good Day!

Today was day 10 on the weight loss program started here at the local clinic. I eat so many vegetables I will soon turn green and look like brocolli or lettuce. Just kidding! It is all good. When we weighed in last wk I'd lost 5.5 lbs. But I cannot track that yet because I had put some weight on and I need to get down to what I was before and then work down from that. Oh, the webs we weave..... I have been feeling very upbeat and another thing is that we have finally finished putting all the tin on the roof. We ended up short a few screws so tomorrow I will have to climb the tin to the peak and put in a couple of screws and then it will be all done. It looks good from far. Next spring I will paint the whole house white and it will be stunning with the dark green roof and the shutters I want will be dark green. The front door will be dark red. My friend said it will be a Xmas house which is funny considering we are Bahais and don't celebrate Xmas. But always good for a laugh.
Now for the serious business of getting ready to travel to Mexico. We have a lot of work ahead, winterizing everything, clean up so that we don't come back to a lot of work, and because we will be doing some childcare in the city nearby I will make a ton of cookies and rice krispie squares. That should keep the little critters happy. I remember when I was a child it was all about the food. Of course that is not all we will do. We will also read stories and play board games. A friend of mine wants to come and do some crafts with the children as well. That is so nice of her. It should be fun and once again we get to participate in Hallowe'en. Long time since DH and I did that.
I read a very excellent blog by Indygirl earlier and was so touched. It was all about binging and the all or nothing game. It reminded me about her recent comment that if you have a flat tire (eat something you shouldn't) you would not then go around and shoot out the remaining 3 tires and generally treat your car badly. So why do we go crazy after going temporarily off track. I will always keep that picture in my mind of going around shooting the tires that are not flat already.

I am still doing real well with my food plan. I have a tendency that if I can last 3 days on a plan I can keep going and today is day 6. Whew! Thank God for the local clinic for instilling such zip in me. Today we need to really get with it on the roof. We need to put the peak on (requires ropes to secure ourselves, I hate that) and we need to fasten the whirly bird in place after the paint on it drys. We ended up buying a brown one but decided to paint them green the same color as the roof. One is in place already and I sure am glad I painted it but 1 to go. Yesterday I went to town and bought lots of veggies, no regard for price because if I am cutting back hard on carbs I need something to eat. I do love things like brussel sprouts, asparagus, cauliflower, brocolli, etc. It is a good plan. But this morning our bread machine died for once and for all so poor DH has no bread for a while. He will be okay but will miss it. I am going to page the neighbors for a loaf and see what that gets us. It will rain later today so I will relax then and get my butt in gear now.

    My sister has a bread machine and uses it quite a bit. The bread is so good; I would be aftraid to have one of those. The vegetables are so satisfying as well as yummy. I need to eat more of them and less simple carbs!

Yesterday was the big turkey day. I cooked turkey, dressing, mashed potatos, gravy, cranberries, yams, red cabbage salad (hot) brussel sprouts, brocolli, salad, fresh buns and we bought pumpkin pie. But I can truly say I ate turkey, brussel sprouts, red cabbage, salad and two ryvita crackers with a bit of cottage cheese on them and an orange for dessert. Wow! the pride I feel carries a lot of momentum. I want to feel that again, Everyone looked stunned after supper and the guys fell asleep. I cleaned up and was trying to get a rumoli game going but it was a bust. No problem, I was finally able to get some time alone and read. It had been a good day for exercise as well because there was a lot of work involved with all that cooking and I put the screws in three sheets of tin as well. Every time someone would try to get me to join in the big eating fest I would say"I signed a contract" and it was true. Charlie also was supportive in this as I kind of read him the riot act about helping me fulfill my obligation to the local clinic. All in all it was a good day. What I missed the most if anything was the cranberry sauce. I do love turkey heaped with cranerry sauce. Usually I just cook them with splenda and eat them with a good conscience but I had put sugar in them because of others so I left them alone. It was okay!!!!

    You did it! This was a great accomplishment. I will do as well on our Thanksgiving Day at the end of November as well. I am going to focus on the visit more than the food. I could easily become a food pusher I think. Yikes. I need to be careful of that.

Local Clinic Weight loss Group

Yesterday I went to the local health clinic and joined a group which will try to lose weight under the supervision of the local health care professionals. There will be weekly weigh ins, group sharing and accountability. Also this is with friends and neighbors which is cool. It was time to do something different. I always eat healthy but I am so short I have a feeling I really should eat far less. So this is a low carb and very restrictive diet in that there is major portion control. I really want to make some headway before we head for Mexico. I feel quite confident that if I can just get through our Canadian Thanksgiving I will do well. Some of the kids will be here and there will be turkey and all the trim. Sigh!!!! But I really have to find a different hobby other than cooking and enjoying great food. We are back working a lot on the roof and today we put tin on the back of the garage (attached). Tomorrow it is back to work on the front and then we will be done. We have about 4 days work left on it but lots of interruptions. There is frost in the morning so we can't start early and then the day starts getting dark early so we are left with short days. But we can only stand so much anyway so it is all okay. How will I live without bread, cereal, and PB? Just kidding, I gave birth to 4 big kids for heavens sake so I will try not to whine too much.


Too Tired

We had company all weekend and I am exhausted. They were great and we had a lot of fun but they needed more heat than we are used to ergo: we had a lot of trouble sleepling. The mom and dad were very great and the two children were a bit bratty but not unmanageable. The cat was interesting. He wandered around endlessly and only got lost outside once. Our meals were superb and the rumoli game was so good.These children are the ones we are going to mind in Oct. before we head for Mexico. Right now I just want to sleep, sleep and sleep some more.
