So far our trip has been excellent and uneventful as far as bad things are concerned. I don't mention it often but one of the purposes of our trip is to rescue a new dog. Last year we had the horrible experiences to have both of our dogs die and we miss them so much. We needed some time being dogless just to be sure that was what we both wanted. It is not a good idea for one partner to want a dog and the other not so much. But it turns out we both hunger for another dog. On our whole trip we both seem to be on the lookout for a new dog. So at this hotel we are staying at a little yellow dog approached us and we did a lot of thinking. The next day a white dog not only approched us but followed us around. So what to do? Our final idea was to take both dogs. The white dog followed us to the vet and we left with assurances that she would be cleaned up and be okay to touch. One never knows what horrible things you can catch. It has been known to happen that people catch mange from dogs. So we went back with full intentions to take the yellow dog to the vet too. But we can't catch it and we need to move on today. So as the caprices of life happen the dog we fully intended to take first will be left here probably to die while the dog I suspect is its mother will remain with us all the days of its life. She is so shy, quiet, and well behaved it is amazing. I am sad about the other dog whom I had named Lilly but this one is Chica and is going to fill a large part of the hole in my heart.

Smarter Than Most of the People I Know

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

Today's the day. By this afternoon we should be out the door for 6 months. What a lot of work to get ready. The fridge has been emptied. Did you know you can freeze most condiments. Who wants to constantly replace ketchup, etc. Now comes the tricky part DH will shut off all the water and empty pipes (force air) so no more use of the taps or even the sewer. The toilet gets done last. Every time we have gone I missed some important item I really wanted. Last yr. it was my salad spinner. Cleaning lettuce without it is a pain. So right now there it is under DH's clothing for Mexico. My mother did not raise a fool. We have enough money for the trip but here's hoping that we have no major breakdowns till Mexico. Our mechanic there is an angel and smarter than most people in existence. He is also crazy when it comes to charging. He asks for so little as to be about 10% of what we would pay at home. We always give him a big monetary gift at Xmas. Both of us are in love with his dog. The dog is smarter than most people I know. Eating off paper plates at noon and we are hauling our garbage with us so that we don't need to worry about beas tilting the can if we leave it outside. I hate that part.

Heading South!

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

Need to get my butt in gear and get ready to hit the road for Mexico. There has been a big change in plans and I need to clean up and pack for our trip to La Paz. The getting ready is a bit frantic but once we are on our way it is all good. Poor DH he is even more frazzled than I am. It was a big surprise to be able to leave sooner and now the forecast is for snow. We have all season radials and not winter tires so it causes a bit of concern. But we will sneak out during the best weather times and once we are far enough south it will be okay. Motels have wi-fi so I will stay in touch.

Day 11

Monday, October 15, 2012

I came across a name that struck me as fortuitous'own small clothes'. It reminded me that I have a bunch of those and I want to wear them in the worst way. So because one of my goals today was to clean out my closets and start the process of packing to go to Mexico I will pack up any clothes too large or large enough that they will not fit my eventual weight loss goal and I don't need them for my trip. This is a huge thing to do. There will be no going back. The clothes I get rid of will go in the reuse shed at the dump and if I get off my tush the dump is open Mon. Thurs and Sat. so I can haul them out there to the shed TODAY. Will report tomorrow how this worked out. I figure 2 to 3 garbage bags full plus my broken bread machine and anything else DH comes up with. I will tell him to get his butt in gear as this should be the last day to do this. This is day 11 of total healthy eating and it feels very good.

I love 'Ownsmallcothes' name as well. I have some really nice and fun clothes to get back into. I will be wearing them all by this time next year. I can understand you getting rid of them before you leave. There is no going back once you feel how wonderful it is to not drag all the extra weight around!

Had a Good Day!

Sunday, October 14, 2012

Today was day 10 on the weight loss program started here at the local clinic. I eat so many vegetables I will soon turn green and look like brocolli or lettuce. Just kidding! It is all good. When we weighed in last wk I'd lost 5.5 lbs. But I cannot track that yet because I had put some weight on and I need to get down to what I was before and then work down from that. Oh, the webs we weave..... I have been feeling very upbeat and another thing is that we have finally finished putting all the tin on the roof. We ended up short a few screws so tomorrow I will have to climb the tin to the peak and put in a couple of screws and then it will be all done. It looks good from far. Next spring I will paint the whole house white and it will be stunning with the dark green roof and the shutters I want will be dark green. The front door will be dark red. My friend said it will be a Xmas house which is funny considering we are Bahais and don't celebrate Xmas. But always good for a laugh.
Now for the serious business of getting ready to travel to Mexico. We have a lot of work ahead, winterizing everything, clean up so that we don't come back to a lot of work, and because we will be doing some childcare in the city nearby I will make a ton of cookies and rice krispie squares. That should keep the little critters happy. I remember when I was a child it was all about the food. Of course that is not all we will do. We will also read stories and play board games. A friend of mine wants to come and do some crafts with the children as well. That is so nice of her. It should be fun and once again we get to participate in Hallowe'en. Long time since DH and I did that.
I read a very excellent blog by Indygirl earlier and was so touched. It was all about binging and the all or nothing game. It reminded me about her recent comment that if you have a flat tire (eat something you shouldn't) you would not then go around and shoot out the remaining 3 tires and generally treat your car badly. So why do we go crazy after going temporarily off track. I will always keep that picture in my mind of going around shooting the tires that are not flat already.
