An Iffy Day!

Monday, September 10, 2012

1.On the plus side yesterday the neighbor did not light a fire so we got a lot done. 2. I made cookies in the afternoon and was able to stick to just a few. I used an artificial sweetner instead of half the sugar so they were not quite as evil. Plus I added oats to up my oats in general. 3. We cut off our TV signal a couple of months ago and since then we only watch Netflix. First we watched all the Bones episodes and a couple of movies and then we started on MI5. They are exciting to the max but a tad depressing. So we have been on the look out for something a little cheerier and boy did we find it "Lie to Me". It is so good, exciting and uplifting while being very educational at the same time. We are thrilled to have made this discovery. On the not so good side our neighbor lit a fire first thing this morning. It is a cool day but oh well! We will see what can be done after we get the day started. When my husband enters meltdown which he often does I tell him to try to live moment to moment and maybe it will not be so difficult. I totall;y see that he is having problems with his mental capacity and that would be a symptom of his neurological disorder. I wish I knew the name of it so that I could investigate it further but the neurologist was not very forthcoming and seemed a cranky person as well so it discouraged any further questions. Ticks me off and I think I will have a chat with our nurse practitioner about it because after requisitioning the MRI the neurologist has jus totally written him off.
My shoulder is improving slowly but surely. The pinched nerve in my neck and the fact that my shoulder bone warped forward ever so slightly is making me so much more aware of the need to get exercise and eat properly. Again I applaud my therapist and I see a path to good health being imperative if I want to enjoy the next 30 (?) yrs.

Smoke and Mirrors

Sunday, September 09, 2012

Yesterday my husband and I were working on the roof as usual which means cutting tin and placing it where it belongs and then I screw it into place with an electric drill. My husband is allergic to smoke. This is a huge thing for us as we cannot go anywhere that there is smoke. Well as we are working merrily away the neighbor lit a fire in her furnace and the smoke came out of her chimney. At first it drifted in the opposite direction than us but eventually it came our way. My husband had a meltdown as he always does when it comes to smoke. Silly fool accused me of not supporting him enough as I should be able to do something about this. I told him that he is a fool and should grow up. It was not a serious quarrel but I see the writing on the wall about his future participation in the work on the roof. So am I prepared to finish it myself? I have been thinking about this and if I have a blade to cut tin on the skill saw I may be able to do 95% of the work. How the heck do I get into these ridiculous situations???? Shoulder still sore but getting better and at least I have cooked a fair amount of food ahead so that frees up some time for me. I will have to do a lot of praying in order to get through the next couple of weeks.

Physio

Saturday, September 08, 2012

Lately I had been working on the roof a lot. Most of it has been lifting things onto the roof and then screwing on boards or tin. I am right handed so I expected some soreness on the right side. But strangely enough my left shoulder was causing me a lot of pain and I had this wierd feeling that it was being drawn forward without my active participation. Hmmmm!! So I asked for a referral to a physiotherapist for it. I am sure glad I did that. He was a physio/chiropracter and he said that a nerve in my neck was being pinched. So he taped up my left shoulder to encourage it not to be drawn forward and gave me a series of 4 exercises to do every hr. He also did some chiropractic stuff. He was from New Zealand and I am sure glad we are benefitting from N Z's loss. Slowly I should get better. This makes me worry a little about osteoporisis so I will up my calcium.

Yesterday!

Thursday, September 06, 2012

Yesterday we went to the city for me to have a renal ultrasound. We had breakfast as usual at home and then left with a 3.5 hr. drive ahead. The weather was lovely and the drive uneventful. Good car, pat, pat on your hood! 10 yrs old and rarely caused us any grief! The US went well and we shopped for a few things as well as buying $161 worth of groceries. Then the debate was on ' What to have for supper?' Charlie loves chinese and I don't but he hasn't had it for a while so in the spirit of fairness I relented and that is what we had. We each ordered a $10 combination dish and water. I stopped at half of it and we packed up the rest. The drive home was also uneventful and we unpacked and went to bed. Slept well! Not too exciting but I am proud I stopped halfway with the chinese food and Charlie can have it for lunch today along with what he left. Back to healthy eating and working on the roof for me.

Life is Good but Busy!

Wednesday, September 05, 2012

I am up a bit early but that is what happens to post menopausal women. I slept well from 10 till 3 and I tossed and turned after that. So I finally just got up and here I am. It is 5:12 and by 7:30 we want to be on the road to the city to get a renal ultrasound done. This is a chance to hit at least one second hand store and buy groceries a bit cheaper than at home. I had an email that some friends want to come out and spend time with us so that we get to know their children before they leave them in our hands for 10 days. This is fine with us except that in the past no one wanted to come all the way out here but this summer when we are trying to get a new roof put on our house every one wants to come and visit. We do love to see them but it makes for a very busy time. So I will get the house cleaned and get a lot of food made up ahead and we will do a lot of walking and sightseeing.

    Gina,
Goodness but you sound busy. It's good that you will get some walking in while showing company around. You must live in a beautiful area to get all this company.

See you at Sugar......cyber, only!

Isn't that the way things go? You just have to keep a sense of humour. I'm sure you will get through it. I have learned over the years to just enjoy the company and not get too uptight over everything. They come to see you not how your house looks, lol. You are brave indeed looking after your friends' kids for 10 days. That's a long time! I know because when I babysit the grandchildren it's wearing but wonderful. Enjoy!!! Thanks for sharing!! emoticon
