Lately I had been working on the roof a lot. Most of it has been lifting things onto the roof and then screwing on boards or tin. I am right handed so I expected some soreness on the right side. But strangely enough my left shoulder was causing me a lot of pain and I had this wierd feeling that it was being drawn forward without my active participation. Hmmmm!! So I asked for a referral to a physiotherapist for it. I am sure glad I did that. He was a physio/chiropracter and he said that a nerve in my neck was being pinched. So he taped up my left shoulder to encourage it not to be drawn forward and gave me a series of 4 exercises to do every hr. He also did some chiropractic stuff. He was from New Zealand and I am sure glad we are benefitting from N Z's loss. Slowly I should get better. This makes me worry a little about osteoporisis so I will up my calcium.

Yesterday!

Yesterday we went to the city for me to have a renal ultrasound. We had breakfast as usual at home and then left with a 3.5 hr. drive ahead. The weather was lovely and the drive uneventful. Good car, pat, pat on your hood! 10 yrs old and rarely caused us any grief! The US went well and we shopped for a few things as well as buying $161 worth of groceries. Then the debate was on ' What to have for supper?' Charlie loves chinese and I don't but he hasn't had it for a while so in the spirit of fairness I relented and that is what we had. We each ordered a $10 combination dish and water. I stopped at half of it and we packed up the rest. The drive home was also uneventful and we unpacked and went to bed. Slept well! Not too exciting but I am proud I stopped halfway with the chinese food and Charlie can have it for lunch today along with what he left. Back to healthy eating and working on the roof for me.

Life is Good but Busy!

I am up a bit early but that is what happens to post menopausal women. I slept well from 10 till 3 and I tossed and turned after that. So I finally just got up and here I am. It is 5:12 and by 7:30 we want to be on the road to the city to get a renal ultrasound done. This is a chance to hit at least one second hand store and buy groceries a bit cheaper than at home. I had an email that some friends want to come out and spend time with us so that we get to know their children before they leave them in our hands for 10 days. This is fine with us except that in the past no one wanted to come all the way out here but this summer when we are trying to get a new roof put on our house every one wants to come and visit. We do love to see them but it makes for a very busy time. So I will get the house cleaned and get a lot of food made up ahead and we will do a lot of walking and sightseeing.

    Aw ........ someone who shares my sleep habits! I too woke up at ten til 3--and got up at 3:10 ............. Went to bed at 8:15 .......... never get more than six hours sleep .......... Once menopause hit years ago, it was all over! ..........

    Isn't that the way things go? You just have to keep a sense of humour. I'm sure you will get through it. I have learned over the years to just enjoy the company and not get too uptight over everything. They come to see you not how your house looks, lol. You are brave indeed looking after your friends' kids for 10 days. That's a long time! I know because when I babysit the grandchildren it's wearing but wonderful. Enjoy!!! Tired Day

Yesterday I figured out that the building supply store did not give us the right size of sheets of tin for the roof. We can do some patchwork but it is additional cutting of tin and what we don't need is more work. Lost half a night's sleep about this and had a tired day. Still thinking about it all and we will make do but we may not even finish before winter sets in. Glad Annie is home and she was so sweet about the fact that our little dog died. She is just the dearest friend and I am lucky to have her in my life. We will walk dogs tomorrow and I will try to borrow a dog to walk. Did well with nutrition today and got lots of exercise. Not a bad day really. Joined Indygirl's team, I just love their spirit!!!!

Easy Meals to Make

I will start a list here and add to it as I think of ideas.
1. salmon/potatos/veggies (sweet potato, red cabb, lima beans, carrots, cauliflower,)
2.bean salad, potato wedges, any veggie
3. soup (asian, hamburger, cr. of vegetable) grilled cheese sand. or tst and peanut butter
4.carrot cake oatmeal, flax seeds and coffee (breakfast) red river cereal for a change
5. macaroni and cheese with tuna and dill pickles made the way I like it.
6.stuffed peppers
7.poached chicken in orange jc., brown rice and veggies, green salad
8.lentil bulger salad, one salad makes about 8 portions
9. stir fry with any meat or soy product, brocolli, peppers, garlic, onions, and bok choy with soy sc, chicken broth, sesame oil and a little rice wine vinegar over a bed of brown rice
10 lean hamburger balls (mixed with onions and some flax seed and an egg) sauted with mushroom sc. served over brown rice or oven roasted potato wedges and green salad.
11. Canned beans, toast and green salad.(this one is particularly easy)

    I never heard of carrot cake oatmeal.....I'm on low carb
but oatmeal is one of the few starches I allow myself as a treat.
I found a few recipes for the carrot cake oatmeal ... now I can't wait to try it
