Tic Disease

Friday, December 14, 2012

Yesterday I was going to go to aqua fit but something told me I should go to spanish lessons instead. What great intuition. Agua fit was rained out (it is an outdoor pool) and spanish was an important lesson to tie everything together. Whew!
I ate well but not too much. I am staying healthy but not losing much. The scale does not move. sigh!
I was worried about the dog so several days ago I told the vet to check her for heartworm. He asked if she has been coughing a lot and I told him not at all. So heartworm is ruled out. He decided to just take major blood samples and get it tested for whatever. Our poor little dog has tic disease. She is a very sick little dog. I knew that, but what to do. So the vet ordered a huge course of medications and I have to implement it in order to even give her a chance to survive. First there is the meds to help her to be able to take the meds. Then antibiotics and vitamins galore. I went out and bought chicken giblets and boiled them so I have good juice for her. She loves the giblets too. It is 3 days now and I give her all her meds early in the morning when it is just her and I up. I cut up the giblets into dainty little pcs. and keep my fingers crossed. She seems to be doing better already and Charlie agrees. She is not whining and crying hardly at all anymore and she is aware of dogs coming by to the fence and giving chase. I can only hope this continues. The tics are very bad this year because of the rain. She is wearing a tic and flea collar to prevent this happening again.

Sounds like she is definitely on the mend! Keep up the good work! Thanks for the encouragement! Spark on! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Prayers for your dog. It is so difficult to see our furry loved ones in pain or not feeling well, as they can't tell you what hurts and how they really feel.
It sounds like you caught this in time and the dog is making a real turn about. I hope also it continues and she is back with a full recovery very soon.

New Team

Saturday, December 08, 2012

I joined a new team today. It is calories R Us! Kind of catchy hey? I really don't need a new team but today I was feeling very ho hum about it all. My weight is at 146 which is right where it has been for a long time and I just don't seem to be able to get away from it. I was also thinking the holidays will be a perilous time for me. So when this new team came along and I am fond of the person who started it, it was the perfect fit. Or was it the perfect storm in reverse? Maybe! I am a very emotional person and some things just are good for me and others aren't. One thing that is not good for me though I think people have all the right to do it is to set your pg. to private. I will be going along reading something and then I think I will probe more deeply and it says Halt! Thou shalt not go there! It is for certain people only! This feels too much like the snobbishness of some. But don't get me wrong it is okay for individuals to do that. I (and that is just me) get the creeps when I come across it.
Anyway, I like the goals of the team, the people on it and the feel of it.

I get bummed when I want to give some one a goodie, and I can't, because their page is set to private.

Too Much Volume

Friday, December 07, 2012

Yesterday I had a bad event. I ate a good breadfast, lunch and what I thought was a good supper. After supper I felt ill. I realized that I had eaten a good plate of food, a large salad, and then yogurt and fruit. The content was good but the volume was too much and my stomach was in pain. Never again. That was not pleasant and I am not into unpleasantness. My spanish class was canceled, the teacher had to take somone to the Dr. I should find out this morning who that was. Probably her husband would be my guess. The medicine here in La Paz is excellent and I just hope it wasn't too serious.
Off to the shower and then dog walking and spanish class. I found out yesterday about some aqua fit classes so next week off I go. I need to break out of this plateau.

Knowledge

Wednesday, December 05, 2012

The other day we went for breakfast to a marina (this is a sea side city) and we found an ad for free spanish lessons. Well, that was fantastic. I emailed the lady and she told me all the opportunities for free lessons with a group. I definitely wanted to be a part of a group. So I started with the beginners and then then the intermediates. This morning I will try to make it to the regular 9 o'clock classes. Yesterday we went on a field trip to the Tecolote beach. I love how windy it is there and I just love to stand in the waves and get knocked over. The dogs enjoyed it a lot too and spent time just running around. Met a couple from Vancouver and told them a few hints about how to survive here in La Paz.
I am supposed to talk about my weight loss journey, so a couple of sentences about that. Being part of Spark keeps me somewhat accountable. I do lots of exercise but also find I still eat a fair amount. I have lost 25 lbs. and am stuck there for now. I still need to lose 20 lbs. but it is a journey. Spark has made me far more aware of what I am doing and I really eat in a far more healthy manner. I have gained a lot of knowledge.

Thanks for sharing! Hope you learn Spanish fast! I have a daughter who is using the Rosetta Stone to learn Dutch, and my other daughter wants to learn Spanish sometime.

I took French from 7th-11th grade (got all A's) and Hebrew for two years in college (A's also). But when I moved bakc to Rochester, NY, I realized we had a large latino population and thought it would behoove me to learn Spanish - especially since after my parents divorced, my Dad remarried a Puerto Rican. It was she who helped me get started learning it on my own. I pored over the textbook she'd given me (she used it to give Spanish lessons to help put herself through law school!) - it had these neat lines to show inflection. I practiced conjugating daily, and wrote her notes to correct. Then it was a matter of building my vocabulary - and my confidence to speak it as well as I wrote it. I'm now fluent enough that I don't need a translator when I go on mission trips. In fact, I once traslated for my pastor, and when I was explaining to the local pastor that this time I would be translating rather than preaching, he asked, "Oh, you know English?" I felt that was a great compliment! Spanish is one of the EASIEST foreign languages to learn, and I find the Mexican accent is easier to understand than the loval Puerto Rican. I kind of grew my own natural Peruvian accent. And of course, easier in the country than in hurried big cities.
I'll be glad when I can move to my beloved Peru!
May God bless you and lead you into all Truth.(John 14:6)

MP3 Player on the fritz!

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Yesterday I discovered my silly mp3 player is not functioning well and it constantly wants to start every thing from the beginning of what I have recorded. Eventually it will mean replacing the silly thing but in the meantime I have 3 sessions with ELIZRN on there that I have been putting off. They are time consuming sessions so I got a bit lazy. In the afternoon I finally sat down and took the time to do one of the sessions. It was so good I was mad at myself for waiting so long. Now I need to do two of them this afternoon and I can erase them. Her stuff stays with me very well and helps me to function better and in a less frazzled state. It was after doing the self hypnosis that I finally got my act together and decided to up my veggie intake. I've known I need to do this for a long time and kept putting it off. Last night Charlie and I went to the store and I picked up zucchinis, more lettuce and spinach. So today I will cook zucchini slices and sprinkle them with grated parmesan cheese and I'll have green salad twice today. This is the way to get enough to eat and keep the cals down. I know I am jumping all over the place with this but one thing leads to another and self improvement is in leaps and bounds not small increments. Already went out and walked the dogs for about 45 mins. and then gave in and went out for breakfast with my husband who loves to do this. There is one place at the marina that has excellent coffee and food and Charlie would love to go there daily but not on our budget. He loves to have the lumberjack breakfast and I have fresh fruit and yogurt all with lots of good coffee.
