Yesterday I had a class of my English pupils who speak spanish as their first language. I made a special effort to teach something a little entertaining and I find dinosaurs do the trick. The book I have even has some stickers to hand out. The pupils are girls 12, 13, and 14 yrs. old. There were a lot of pictures and games to color with my trusty set of 24 wax crayons. I even got into the spirit of it. At the end of the class jokingly I asked them now that we have holidays we should add an extra class seeing as how there is all this extra time. Surprise, surprise, they said they would like to do that. So now I have to dream up an entertaining class for Thurs. as well as Sat. I will go through all my material and find games and coloring to do. I am sure I can fill up an hr. and a half with fun stuff and force them to speak English. They also arrived at the class yesterday with gifts so lovely and delicious I could cry. One girl even bought me a teddy bear that at first I didn't realize required batteries and will speak to me if I speak to it. There were pastries from a bakery that is very pricey, chocolates galore, and a beautifully decorated stocking saying Gina y Charlie (meaning Gina and Charlie) filled with mandarins straight off the tree, leaves and all. Divine!!!!! And I can't forget the grapefruits off the tree of the house opposite the school the mother of two of the girls teaches at. Aren't I lucky?
Then I worked on phoning some of my kids in Canada. Finally reached Diane and the twins Justine and Caroline. They are 4.5 and so excited for the holidays. Today I will try reach the rest of the kids and I will try email them as well.
Today Charlie and I are going to the home of our dearest Mexican daughter's mother and we will give her a brand new microwave for Xmas. We get together there often and we like to bring food but also like to heat it up. Our gift is rather selfish but will be much appreciated. We will have Devotions and fun. The two daughters have each got a baby both of whom we adore. Little Melanie is just over one and Axel is 10 months. They are gorgeous and have such great little personalities. We get our weekly baby dose this way. After that we just live on the memories.
