The 24th is the big dinner here in Mexico. We enjoyed the day at friends with a dinner of beef wellington (something I have never had before) and it was scrumptious. We also had ham, buns, roasted potatos, 4 kinds of salad and a caramel flan for dessert. Rossy is a real gourmet cook and it was so good. We left there feeling very sluggish but what the heck once a yr. is not too bad.
On the morning of the 25th I went to aqua fit and loved it. Spent the rest of the day active and on the move. Got a lot of cleaning done so today I can be somewhat relaxed. Spent 1.5 hrs. on Facebook chat with kids.
This morning I have a spanish class and I will walk the dogs down by the seashore. A good day I think. We will also pick up the fabulous calendars from Manuel for family and friends.

Broken Glass, fit ladies and wonderful fake lashes!

Monday, December 24, 2012

I came across a post in which the lady said that a Dr. told her father that sugar molecules are like broken glass and your blood vessels are smooth like M +Ms. So in that way sugar destroys blood vessels. Charlie just got up and I told him this and he said, At the pulp mill when they needed to blast metal they would sand blast it with sugar rather than sand because the clean up was easier. Sugar just needed to be washed away and it would melt.
How amazing is that?
The ladies from my aqua fit class made the decision to meet for a class on the morning of Dec. 25th at 9:00AM. How dedicated is that? We are all very proud of what fit ladies we are. If we can do this what can't we do?
This morning I am going and getting my hair done and getting my fake eye lashes put on. I truly am kind of thrilled with the eye lashes but leery of putting them on myself.
Charlie is calling me to come for Devotions so I will end this. Happy 24th to everyone!!!!

Wow, Am I good or What?

Sunday, December 23, 2012

Yesterday I had a class of my English pupils who speak spanish as their first language. I made a special effort to teach something a little entertaining and I find dinosaurs do the trick. The book I have even has some stickers to hand out. The pupils are girls 12, 13, and 14 yrs. old. There were a lot of pictures and games to color with my trusty set of 24 wax crayons. I even got into the spirit of it. At the end of the class jokingly I asked them now that we have holidays we should add an extra class seeing as how there is all this extra time. Surprise, surprise, they said they would like to do that. So now I have to dream up an entertaining class for Thurs. as well as Sat. I will go through all my material and find games and coloring to do. I am sure I can fill up an hr. and a half with fun stuff and force them to speak English. They also arrived at the class yesterday with gifts so lovely and delicious I could cry. One girl even bought me a teddy bear that at first I didn't realize required batteries and will speak to me if I speak to it. There were pastries from a bakery that is very pricey, chocolates galore, and a beautifully decorated stocking saying Gina y Charlie (meaning Gina and Charlie) filled with mandarins straight off the tree, leaves and all. Divine!!!!! And I can't forget the grapefruits off the tree of the house opposite the school the mother of two of the girls teaches at. Aren't I lucky?
Then I worked on phoning some of my kids in Canada. Finally reached Diane and the twins Justine and Caroline. They are 4.5 and so excited for the holidays. Today I will try reach the rest of the kids and I will try email them as well.
Today Charlie and I are going to the home of our dearest Mexican daughter's mother and we will give her a brand new microwave for Xmas. We get together there often and we like to bring food but also like to heat it up. Our gift is rather selfish but will be much appreciated. We will have Devotions and fun. The two daughters have each got a baby both of whom we adore. Little Melanie is just over one and Axel is 10 months. They are gorgeous and have such great little personalities. We get our weekly baby dose this way. After that we just live on the memories.

We are in La Paz Baha South, a lovely little city in which we yearly escape the smoke from wood fires and the cold of northern Canada. I love it here but Xmas is a pain and I have to admit I dread it. We are invited to the home of dear friends but the food will be too, too good and I will have a hard time saying No. Why do I get myself into these situations. I'd really rather stay home and have a healthy dinner with my husband. I wonder if I could get out of going out. Hmmmmmm!
Yesterday I went out for breakfast with the ladies of my aqua fit class and it was such fun. Great company, lovely retaurant, lousy service, good food, a singer with a heavenly voice and just a general good time was had by all except for Kim whose breakfast was very late and came just as we were all leaving.

Have a little but don't overdo and select more of the foods that will be better choices. Maybe you could bring something too that is less in calories and fat. Enjoy the time with your friends. You can do it!

Tic Disease

Friday, December 14, 2012

Yesterday I was going to go to aqua fit but something told me I should go to spanish lessons instead. What great intuition. Agua fit was rained out (it is an outdoor pool) and spanish was an important lesson to tie everything together. Whew!
I ate well but not too much. I am staying healthy but not losing much. The scale does not move. sigh!
I was worried about the dog so several days ago I told the vet to check her for heartworm. He asked if she has been coughing a lot and I told him not at all. So heartworm is ruled out. He decided to just take major blood samples and get it tested for whatever. Our poor little dog has tic disease. She is a very sick little dog. I knew that, but what to do. So the vet ordered a huge course of medications and I have to implement it in order to even give her a chance to survive. First there is the meds to help her to be able to take the meds. Then antibiotics and vitamins galore. I went out and bought chicken giblets and boiled them so I have good juice for her. She loves the giblets too. It is 3 days now and I give her all her meds early in the morning when it is just her and I up. I cut up the giblets into dainty little pcs. and keep my fingers crossed. She seems to be doing better already and Charlie agrees. She is not whining and crying hardly at all anymore and she is aware of dogs coming by to the fence and giving chase. I can only hope this continues. The tics are very bad this year because of the rain. She is wearing a tic and flea collar to prevent this happening again.

Prayers for your dog. It is so difficult to see our furry loved ones in pain or not feeling well, as they can't tell you what hurts and how they really feel.
It sounds like you caught this in time and the dog is making a real turn about. I hope also it continues and she is back with a full recovery very soon.
