My next mission.... BF%

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

I have come to the conclusion that I want to be as lean as possible. I believe this is my next step in fitness. I would love to maintain a body fat % of 8% and hold it there. This is going to take alot of work over the winter and I am ready for it. We have a group starting up and plan on hitting it really hard. The area I need to work the most on is my core. I have been working on it, but really need to step it up.

On a side note. My riding club at work has grown and am so happy about that. We have all skill levels in our group, and that makes me so happy. We have men and woman now. I am even getting the company to back us now, and that helps out alot.

Everyone enjoy the coolness of fall and keep up the hard work.

Marty

My fitness

Saturday, July 14, 2012

It has been awhile since I have writen anything here, so tonight is the night.

My running has tappered off some, since I am training for a week long bike ride across Iowa (Ragbrai) in one more week. Once I get back from that I am startinng to train for a half marathon in Sept. This will be my first attempt at that kind of distance, but am looking forward to it. It gives me one solid month of training for it. I have a duathlon the week after my half, and should be in really good shape for that.

Well I am off to ride the trainer and log some much needed miles for the day. I hope all my friends out there are having a great weekend.

If any of you are planning to ride Ragbrai, shoot me and email and we can ride together or at least meet up.

Have a great night all..

Marty

Jenny, it is right around 500 miles for the week. Average about 70 a day. It is alot of fun, I have done it 5 times so this is number 6. Most all roads are closed off to this, due to the number of riders. Right around 15,000 to 20,000 at any given day...

How many miles will you be riding? Sounds like fun, just be careful out on the roads, some drivers are crazy.

Sept. 17 Duathlon

Saturday, September 17, 2011

Well I did my duathlon this morning. Finally got underway around 9:10. Temp was about 48 when we started the 5K. But it doesn't take long to warm up. And I like running in the cold weather better. I clocked in at 27:35 Very proud of myself since last week was my first 5K and I came in at 30:09 So I trimmed nearly 3 minutes from my time in one week.I maybe took to much tme in the transition zone, but I didn't want to take off to quickly. We had a stiff east windso the biking didn't go as well as I hoped it would. Final time was 01:45:32 But all in all it was a great time. Lots of great people there to watch and support all the runner/bikers. My wife a kids came to watch which was a great surprise... I will post a few pictures tomorrow.

Thanks to ALL my great spark friends who wished me well before my race. It really means alot to me to hear the kind remarks. I now have a bench mark number to beat now, and I will train harder and crush the numbers today..

Thanks for reading my blog,
Marty

WTG for completing your Duathlon! Sounds like u did amazing, especially during your run! Yay for shedding 3 min off your time from the week prior! That's what its all about, your competing with yourself, and as long as your happy with how u did that's all that matters!
That's awesome the wife and kids came out to support you! Its always nice to have a strong support system cheering u on , especially with something that important, knowing they are there keeps u going!
Kuddos for all your hardwork and accomplishments!

Canning Salsa

Saturday, August 27, 2011

Well I am finally canning some salsa. I have soooo many peppers and tomatoes that I really had no choice but to do it today. Making three different one. One will be VERY hot and the others not so much. I will be the only one eating the hot stuff. The mango one I am doinng is sooooo good. Plus I am doinng a black bean and corn one as well. Will be a good job when all are canned. I'm always open to new recipes, so if you have any that you would like to share, PLEASE send them my way.

Being fit......

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Since I started my journey to get fit I seem to be a happier person, I smile more, just lots of little things. It's nice going to work and have people comment on how good I look. Same old looks just a better body. Thought I would make that clear. I was asked to help with our health and wellness group at work, and that has since turned into our plant spokesperson. I think its an honor. I have started a riding group at work, and we meet twice a week to ride. I started out with 6 people and now we have 18 people riding with me. I have different mileages to ride for all skill levels. Some people do 5 miles and some have done as much as 20 now. I think that is pretty good since most had not done anything, fitness wise in many years. So i am proud of our group. So now a few in our group want me to help them with there nutrition, I'm not real sure how good I am at doing that, but I do have spark friends to help out if I have questions. So I might be asking a few of you for answers in the future. We have done a weekly weigh in and the people in my group have lost more than the rest of the plant combined. I could be up for a nobel peace prize or something. :) NOT...

So I just wanted to share this, not sure anyone is even reading it, but it gives me a chance to write it down anyway. So if anyone does read this thank you for stopping by.

Hugs to all my spark friends,
Marty

That's good, really awesome, to be asked to be a spokesperson, helping others in the workplace, that will trigger the urge to start taking care of health, balancing work with life :D And as it seems that we spend more time at work compare to other places, I think it's a good idea to start taking care of ourselves from work then spread out to home, family and friends!

Our office has health & wellness program for the employees, including losing weight and stop smoking. I think many have reap the benefits and influencing+supporting each other and I'm happy that in my department, it's easy to share tips and stories of our fitness, activities and sports, no matter what we do. Though, we also have lots of free food from meetings LOL

Hey I've just started biking about 4 weeks ago!! Love it!! Started due to a foot injury. I don't have an amazing bike like you though, just a regular mountain bike. Got any tips?? Like the idea of the running and biking, didn't know they had thoughs. I used to be a runner. I'll have to check into those.
Thanks!!
