Still sick.

Thursday, January 06, 2011

Well, as many of you know, I started my job this week. And I got sick on Saturday. I stayed in bed Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday trying desperately to get well for my first day and it did not work. At all. If anything, I got sicker.

I went to work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. It was tough. My throat was on fire, I could barely talk, and my ears were completely plugged and aching. Matt was begging to take me to the doctor. Then, *Squeamish Alert* yesterday, green stuff started oozing out of my eyes. I figured it was time.

The doctor told me both ears were infected, both eyes were infected, plus I have something else causing my congestion, sneezing, coughing, and so on. She gave me an antibiotic, which I was really hoping to avoid (I hate antibiotics) but you gotta do what you gotta do.

The doctor told me that under no circumstances should I go to work today, but since it's my first week, I just couldn't call off. She gave me a doctor's note and everything. I went to work this morning and got sent home. I'm going to go to sleep here shortly and snuggle with my kitties all day.

I know that even just one day of total rest is probably exactly what I need to get over all this. Well, and the medicine too, of course. Boo.

The job is okay. Everyone is really nice and it's a pretty laid-back kind of place. I think once I get used to it (and get healthy!) I'll like it.

Obviously, I'm not working out, and I'm eating whatever I damn well please... which isn't much to speak of. I'm trying though.

Hope 2011 is off to a great start for everyone!

This might be the best week of my life.

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

In the past week:

I got a job. The kind I went to school for. emoticon

My best friend, who struggles financially, got a big surprise bonus at work emoticon

Same best friend (whose family had a rough year- her mom had cancer and her stepbrother died) was given 6 Steelers tickets. For free. As a gift
emoticon

My other friend who lost her two dogs due to a burglary, got them back safe and sound today. emoticon

All of these things are amazing, but at Christmas? Just makes them ten times better.

I can't remember the last time I felt this happy, and I don't think I've ever had such a merry Christmas.

I hope all of you experience the joy I have this season.

Love you all.

I don't share videos unless they're really, really, really good. This is the cutest and funniest video I have seen for a long time.

My opinion on gym memberships.

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

I was driving home from the gym last night, thinking about my new job and going over my bills in my head, trying to calculate the total. I realized I had forgotten to add in my gym membership (because I don't "pay" it, it's automatically taken out of my account each month).

We have this friend of the family who is one of those people who always has an opinion about everything. You know the type... always has something to say about whatever it is you say. I mentioned going to the gym once, and she went off about how she would never pay for a gym membership, and it's a waste of money because she can just work out at home (which she doesn't, by the way) and blah blah blah blah.

Time for my opinion.

I agree with her to an extent- if you'll work out at home, sure, you don't need a gym membership. I, however, hate to work out at home, and I won't do it. I've tried before, and I just never stick with it. The gym is the only way I will actually work out, and that's the most important factor.

How many times do we hear, "The best exercise is the one you'll stick with?" Well, it's true. I pay for the gym because I stick with the gym. I believe that if you actually use the gym you're paying for, it's totally worth the money.

The most important thing is actually DOING the exercise. You gotta do what you gotta do to do it.

That last line is awesome. I should totally copyright that or something.

I love going to the gym for the classes, different cardio machines, and all of the weight (machines and free). Wait, that's pretty much everything that is there. Oh, wait and the sauna. I think going to the gym is def worth the money. Of course if I wouldn't go to the gym then I def wouldn't pay for it, that would just be dumb. People that say they "would never pay for a gym membership" because they can work out in the comfort of their own home (but don't actually do it) are just giving out an excuse (which no one is buying).

I lived with a stationary bike in my very small bedroom for years...it was an eyesore, & I fell off the wagon many times because it was 'free' not to work out
& Boring, who wants to do the same exercise day after day?

I live about 3 mins away from my new gym, I have about 12 different weight machines that I use,
not to mention a choice of elliptical (fave) or bike, or treadmill...plus free weights, classes, etc.

Anyhow, it's the suiting up, & Going that helps to motivate me. Plus, $39 dollar membership makes me think twice about skipping!

Don't listen to the negative nellies, you are doing great & what's best for you!

I will pipe in. I pay for a gym membership AND work out at home. I work out at home the most because I am (I have finally come to the conclusion) a VIDEO workout JUNKIE! However, I love, love, love group workout classes as well for that EXTRA kick in the booty. Plus, since the hubby is back from his latest deployment we have been lifting weights together at the gym and that has been pretty COOL!

So, my take on it is this....if it AIN'T YOUR money being spent, then why complain about how I spend my money??!!??!!. I mean REALLY!!!! emoticon

I agree with you......even if you only go to take classes it's worth it. I don't belong to a gym at the moment but take a body pump class with my sister a couple of times a month and love it! I work harder when other people are around than I do on my own!

I work out at home. I've had gym memberships in the past and the same thing can happen. You don't go. Then it becomes a waste of money. You can save a lot of money working out at home but if you don't mind the germs a gym is a great place. I might join again someday but for now I'm doing well at home.

yes everyone has their own opinion but they do not need toput down your choice. what works for her/them may not be what works for you.
as for me i dont do the gym thing...1 dont have the money for membership
2 it gives me an excuse not to work because then i need to find the time to get there, make arrangements for the kids.
so last May i got the Wii active and Wii fit plus and this is what works for me, no excuse because it is right there in my living room. it also helps motivate me to keep my living room pick up so i have a place to do it.

emoticon on getting to the gym and doing what works for you , no matter what and what anybody says about it

I'm thinking of re-joining the gym for the new year. I need to Spark it up, and working out in an atmosphere filled with energy (instead of the boring quiet of home) really gets me going. Plus, they have way better weights and machines than I have at home. I do have a really nice elliptical at home, but I use that only as a cardio backup when I can't get outside to run. They gym will be my strength training resource. And maybe I'll get up for early morning spin classes to kick things up a notch. Okay, you've talked me into it. Gym membership for the new year! YAY!

Definitely, if it works for you, then do it.

I'm considering joining a gym. I have a few exercise things and videos at home, but I'm not often motivated to use them. If I join a gym, I'll have access to organized classes, as well as the equipment.

Love that line! Definitely copyright it.

I've paid for gym memberships on two occasions, and never used them. I gotta do something else to do it. But I will defend to the death your right to do it your way, why would anyone else get their knickers in a twist over something that's not hurting anybody and you choose to do? Hope you set your friend in her place.

I agree. I sometimes work out at home, but the key for me is removing as many excuses as possible! My gym has tons of free classes, lots of variety in equipment, expert advice, etc. It totally keeps me from getting bored, and the last couple of years have been really good ones for me for fitness, because of this gym!

I completely agree. I looked into the home gym thing and even buying my own elliptical. To buy even a semi decent piece of equipment is well over a 1000 dollars. Do the math that is way more than I will pay for a gym membership even over the first 2 years. I would rather have access to professional grade equipment that isn't my responsibility to repair when it breaks etc. I can't stand people who criticize whenever you do something not the way that they would do it. ANNOYING.

This Blog Lacks a Specific Theme.

Monday, December 20, 2010

I have nothing in particular to write about. But sometimes those are the best blogs. I like reading blogs that are kind of a mishmash of thoughts and observations. I can pick out what I can relate to and comment.

I'm 3 days strong into my goal of working out every day until Christmas. I did cardio Friday and Saturday, then yesterday I went for a walk outside. It was nice to get out into the cool air and breathe deeply.

I did a little shopping today. Nothing major. I wanted new shoes. Just casual, wear-anywhere shoes that aren't workout shoes. I didn't find anything that I really loved. I'm a goal-oriented shopper. I go out with a specific purpose, and if I don't find what I want, I don't buy anything at all.

I did get a really cute sweater/wrap/shawl thing at Target.

I really wanted it in gray, but the only sizes in gray were XS and XXL. I really love it though. I might order it in gray from the Target website. We shall see. I love it because it's nice and long emoticon

I had to go to the pet store to get some kitty litter. The litter was massively on sale, so with the money I saved, I bought a Da Bird toy for Matt's brother's cat for Christmas.

If you are a cat owner and not familiar with Da Bird, you simply must buy one. It is touted as "The World's Best Cat Toy" and I don't think that's an exaggeration. Cats go wild for this thing. In fact, when I brought it home, my boys shoved their heads in the bag and got really really excited, and wanted me to unwrap it and play. I had to tell them, "No, this is for your cousin Momo!"

I slept in this morning... I suppose I should have gone to Bodypump at 9, but dang it, these are my last few precious days of freedom before I start my job emoticon and I'm going to savor them. So I'm going to Bodypump this afternoon. Promise!

I'm also going to make some buffalo chicken in the crockpot. I should go put that on now.

Hope everyone's having a good Monday!

I was going to exercise every day until Christmas, too. But then spent an hour and a half on the phone with relocation coordinator and moving van company, then had to list our possessions. I have very little memory of what we shoved into storage a year ago and what we got rid of. emoticon Now I have to finish the laundry and then tutor all afternoon. The time just goes--except when I'm trying to sleep and thinking about the move. THEN it crawls. Wish I could do cardio in the middle of the night! But it would keep DH up.

LOL - I'm a goal-oriented shopper too. But I'm also overly-determined, so I end up wasting a lot of time looking before I'll accept that it doesn't exist.... yet. hehe

Cool cat toy - I think I need to go get one for my sister's kitties. She has no children and would LOVE to see prezzies for her pets. (Thanks for the idea)
