My workplace has a fabularious (that was a typo, but I love it. That's totally my new word. Fabularious) cafeteria. You can get pretty much anything you want. There's a full salad bar, every drink imaginable, a soup station, a grill, a hot foods line for dinner-type meals, a deli with 4-5 delicious sandwich specials each day, plus you can order a sandwich made however you want it, and a dessert bar.
I don't hit up the cafeteria every day... maybe 1-2 times a week when I run out of food to pack in my lunch, or am just too tired or rushed in the morning to pack something. Today I had the most delicious sandwich special from the deli- turkey, apple, and brie panini with Dijon mustard. The lunchmeat they use is nice too. It tastes real- not all slimy and salty.
There are some serious calorie bombs there... they have pizza every day, and someone in front of me today bought an enormous bratwurst thing with gooey cheese. But there are nicer options too. It's about balance. I'm not going to buy a plate of plain iceberg lettuce and try to pass that off as lunch, but I know well enough to avoid a hot dog as big as my head.
Also, I don't get dessert. I'm not against dessert, far from it, but when I indulge, I want to do it up right. And they just never have anything that seems worth it to me.
Last week I took Greek pasta from home most days. This week I wanted to make myself white bean chicken chili, but Matt's been monopolizing the crockpot (which is why I had to buy my lunch today).
What does your typical workday lunch look like?

And the man CANNOT cook.
I just choked down a bowl of the nastiest chili I have ever had in my life.

So the new job is going well. Everyone's really nice and the atmosphere is laid-back. Only a few things suck- the commute is kinda long (45+ minutes) and I hate having to wear gloves and safety glasses and a lab coat. In school we didn't wear any PPE at all- gloves were for sissies.
Today I remembered I'm as messy in the lab as I am in the kitchen... I gotta work on that.
I still haven't been back to the gym, but that's by plan. I'm going to wait until this weekend, when I'm done with my antibiotics.
As far as eating... well, I wasn't eating much when I was sick, and now I have my appetite back. It hasn't been bad though. Well, last night was kinda bad It was Matt's birthday, so we ordered pizza and I got him a little cake.
I'm trying to overcome the breakfast hurdle. Now, don't get me wrong- I'm a total breakfast person. I've eaten breakfast for years. I swear by it. The problem is my new schedule. I have trouble eating at 5:15 AM. I still feel like that's the middle of the night!
I have found in the past, however, that when I don't feel like eating breakfast, that a smoothie is the answer! I got some berries in tonight.
Speaking of tonight, I'm hungry. I had a long day at work. Work! I can't believe I go to work!

So, my first week at my new job is over, and I'm finally starting to kind of feel better.
I don't work out when I'm sick, and I eat whatever I want to. Which doesn't amount to much damage, because I usually feel like eating light and don't have much appetite. So not much harm done.
I'm really looking forward to getting into a routine in the coming weeks, but probably not until Thursday or Friday... my left ear is still plugged and painful, and I'm still coughing.
I think I am going to have to work out after work. I would, of course, prefer to work out before, but I don't think it's possible. It takes me about 45+ minutes to get to work. I don't have an official start time, actually, I just have to put in 8 hours every day. The window is from about 7:00-9:00. I am awake at 4:30 with Matt's alarm anyway, so I've just been getting up and going in at 7 so I can leave at 3:30.
Unfortunately, even if I leave at 3:30, I don't know if I can make it to any of the MWF Bodypump classes at 4:30. There's one at 4:45 I might be able to get to comfortably... but I think I will probably end up going to the 7PM Tuesday one (ugh) and Saturday morning. You're only supposed to take the class twice per week.
Then I will go do cardio twice after work during the week, and once on the weekend, which will make 3 days of cardio.
Then I will have two weeknights off. I am going to use one to learn to crochet. It's my New Year's resolution... I want to get really good at crochet in 2011.
Also, Matt has free access to ALL Rosetta Stone software through work, and I want to learn German again. I took it in high school and LOVED it.
So... that's my week, my plans, and my goals. Hope everyone is doing great this weekend and gearing up for an awesome week ahead!

Well, as many of you know, I started my job this week. And I got sick on Saturday. I stayed in bed Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday trying desperately to get well for my first day and it did not work. At all. If anything, I got sicker.
I went to work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. It was tough. My throat was on fire, I could barely talk, and my ears were completely plugged and aching. Matt was begging to take me to the doctor. Then, *Squeamish Alert* yesterday, green stuff started oozing out of my eyes. I figured it was time.
The doctor told me both ears were infected, both eyes were infected, plus I have something else causing my congestion, sneezing, coughing, and so on. She gave me an antibiotic, which I was really hoping to avoid (I hate antibiotics) but you gotta do what you gotta do.
The doctor told me that under no circumstances should I go to work today, but since it's my first week, I just couldn't call off. She gave me a doctor's note and everything. I went to work this morning and got sent home. I'm going to go to sleep here shortly and snuggle with my kitties all day.
I know that even just one day of total rest is probably exactly what I need to get over all this. Well, and the medicine too, of course. Boo.
The job is okay. Everyone is really nice and it's a pretty laid-back kind of place. I think once I get used to it (and get healthy!) I'll like it.
Obviously, I'm not working out, and I'm eating whatever I damn well please... which isn't much to speak of. I'm trying though.
Hope 2011 is off to a great start for everyone!
