3/4/10- 20 mins on elliptical: calories burned!
3/2/10- 20 mins on elliptical: 301 calories burned!
3/1/10- 31 mins on elliptical: 447 calories burned!
This challenge runs from March 1st - 31st, 2010.
*3 part challenge in which the goal is to mix up your exercise routine, try new things and educate yourself about other kinds of exercises that you could be doing.
MIX IT UP!
Try new exercises, workouts, read more about a topic (like Yoga, Pilates, something you've never done but you might like if you try it out),watch a Spark demonstration online for an exercise you've never done---then do it!
- USE IT!
This is where my inventory list comes in.
See my inventory list here:
Use 3 things from my inventory list per week.
This will help me to incorporate things I have that I haven't been using. At the least, use the SparkPeople demonstration exercises and do one of them. DO something new & different!
- LOG IT!
Keep a log for the month in '1' (one) blog entry on your SparkPage.
Blog about how I mixed things up for the week, what I tried that was new, what I used of my own). Use 3 different things from my list per week.

I am the team leader for the Pushing 40 Team. For the last 2 weeks in February our team challenge is to compile a list of things that can aide team members in their weight loss.
(I did this challenge last year, but not a lot of members participated, so I brought it back for 2010).
I knew my list would be long, as I have acquired things over the many years of trying to lose weight and then giving up. I just didn't realize how much I have. There should be no reason for me to not lose weight and utilize the resources (magazine articles, books) and equipment I own. Well, the only reason I can foresee right now is making the TIME to use all these items. So, here is my list (*Updated for 2010) :
-Elliptical Machine -Ab Max/Ab Roller -Mini Trampoline -Exercise Ball
-Weighted Jump Rope -Weighted Ankle/Wrist Weights -(1) 15 lb hand weight
- set of 3 lb hand weights -resistance bands for ankles -resistance bands for hands
-resistance band/pully that attaches to door knob
-pedometer -workout mat
*Countless articles ripped out of magazines & stuffed in a folder
*Binder of Exercises - ripped out of magazines and in page protectors
*Book-Buns Of Steel Total Body WorkOut
*Weight Watchers Flex Points Information - an online fiend of mine had re-joined and sent me her extra information
*Personal Training Work Out sheets from 1995 when I belonged to a gym and lost 15 lbs
(includes Body Fat Analysis print out, which they did by placing electrodes on my body)

So last month I was optimistic. This month, I need to 're-boot'. You know, like you do after you update your computer with software? That's how I feel right now. I want to gather information (new food ideas, learn to menu plan, make up a schedule for exercise, etc.).
A new outlook. I have to. Now.
This past month I was about Girl Scout cookies (my daughter is a Daisy Scout) and chocolate (Valentine's Day). Well, we are past those two humps and now I want to start fresh. Who cares if we're a few months into the new year. I can start over whenever I want, right?
And I am vowing to myself now, that there will be very little candy for Easter. Jelly beans and maybe something else. I'd rather give the kids something crafty, clothes or a new toy (I think my 7 year old will get a new bicycle helmet). I'm trying to think a little outside the box and go by my own rules.
So back to my 're-boot'. I am re-doing my Inventory Challenge for my Pushing 40 SP Team. I did this last year, but will re-post my 'inventory' because I am sure between then and now I have acquired some more exercise DVD's. Then next month's challenge is to use as many of the items I own. I didn't do so well with this last year, but plan on finding a DVD or two that I enjoy so I can implement them into my exercise schedule (which I need to figure out).
So the re-boot list includes:
-gather new food/snack ideas (anyone have a good replacement for that chocolate craving?)
-learn how to menu plan better (incorporate with grocery shopping)
-create a better schedule for myself/family
This is just the start. After I figure these things out, then I need to start eating healthier and exercising more. I've said this before, but in my heart I know what I need to do and can help and encourage other people what to do, but the actual 'doing it' part and sticking with is where I fail. And then I return to old habits. If I could just change the bad habits and create the new ones I think I would finally shed the pounds I need to. Less talk and more action!

Today is day 6 of entering my food/water intake, exercise in my log book. I do it this way because it's easier for me to transfer it online later in the day or all at once on another day if at all possible. I have been using this log book since 2007 (when I joined SP). The book hasn't been used heavily, I hate to admit. But I am going to try to fill the book up this year! I did not log what I ate over the weekend, but have been trying to keep track of my steps.
Today my pedometer keeps falling off, even though it has an extra clip, and I think I will need to add some steps since I did the elliptical (fell off then) and took a 20 minute walk with the dog & kids (fell off during the walk too!).
I am very optimistic today because I actually am beginning to see that I CAN fit in a 20 minute elliptical workout with my 3 yr old around. It takes some planning, but it can be done. I've done it twice now! Yipppeeeee! I need to plan more about how to get strength training in, as well as possible DVD workouts. I now realize how out of shape I am and really want to be able to get fit!
So, my optimism for today will hopefully give me encouragement for the future days to come when I feel I can't do a workout or feel to sluggish to get moving. A few days ago I felt like doing nothing, had a slight headache and MADE myself get on the elliptical. You know what? My headache was gone after I worked out. All that oxygen I guess ~ LOL! I was still sluggish, but a lot less than I had been and worked through what I needed to get done for the day.
So grab some optimism and run with it!

Today was my 1st time back on my elliptical since April '09! I can't believe it has been that long, but the last log I have 4/6/09!!!! So needless to say, I felt so out of shape being on there for 20 minutes. My pedometer reads 9,028 steps....so that's pretty good. Aiming for 10,000 steps each day if at all possible.
I also ate pretty well today. I recorded most of what I ate in a journal, but haven't had time to enter it on Spark yet. Baby steps....
