Workout In ~ Onto My Agenda 4 The Day!

Wednesday, May 04, 2011

I just finished my elliptical & Day 5 SparkPeople 12-Minute Pilates Abs Video. That video was tough! It just makes me realize that when I do sit-ups and ab exercises on my own, I do not push as hard as when I do a video w/Coach Nicole! I felt the burn with those pilates ab exercises! As for doing 'planks', I hate them. I hated them when I did the 28-Day BootCamp Challenge and I hate them with this Spring Into Shape BootCamp Challange. If I find something too daunting I always try it first and then do the modified version she usually shows.

I had to push myself to exercise today. Honestly, I just wanted to get it out of the way. I felt guilty from yesterday because my walk with the dog didn't seem to push me as hard as when I do the elliptical. So since my 8 yr old is at school and my 4 yr old is at my Mom's house, I figured get my workout in before other things take over my attention. So that is what I did. Tomorrow I will finally do the Day 1 Video as my cardio, then I will be back on track.

Now, as for the rest of the day, my husband is getting out of work early so we can go look for the back-splash tile for our kitchen. We've finally picked out the cabinet color, countertop and flooring. All that is left is the backsplash tile. Yeah! Hopefully this will be chosen today and then we will just have to wait for all the materials until our remodeler can start the project. Our current kitchen cabinets are dark and from 1978. We bought our home in 2000 and waited this long to remodel the kitchen due to all the other renovations we needed to do (roof, windows, flooring, etc.) Also remodeling with babies is not fun, so now our kids are at an okay age for this to take place.

That's all for now. I hope everyone has a great day! It's quite a soggy/rainy one here today, but accomplishing things are on my agenda for the day! emoticon

Nice Walk Today!

Tuesday, May 03, 2011

Wow! What a nice walk I had with my dog this afternoon. The three most surprising things to me were that my allergies were not bothering me, I did not feel winded and that my legs felt 'strong' when I was walking. I probably could have walked more but it's about 80 degrees and my dog was panting pretty hard (he'll be 12 in Fall and I do not want to push him over his limit, especially on a warm day). I did wear my pedometer (which I am not sure is working properly), but it recorded 1,151 steps. I went to this website: www.walk4life.com/customerservice/fo
rms_stridelength.aspx
and figured out my stride (I did 16 steps in 30 ft). The stride came out to be 1'11" per the sites figures. So I plugged that stride length & # of steps from my pedometer and it totaled .4 miles. I walked for 35 minutes from 6th to 1st Street in a big square. Not sure if this is right. I could have sworn when I recorded this once before it was a mile.
"Average walking pace is around 3-4 miles per hour. Given that your range is pretty wide, you should budget a half-hour or so each way, a bit more if you're planning on taking it easy (like if it's a hot day) or if you're particularly short. (Short people = short legs = slower walking pace)." askville.amazon.com/long-walk
-miles-back/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=
2686920

I found this daunting statement "The fact is, a 150-pound person burns less than 100 calories on a leisurely half-hour walk." here: findarticles.com/p/articles/m
i_m0NAH/is_6_31/ai_80088298/

So, I did not get in the elliptical, but a small walk. And I did the bootcamp video. It was a busy day, so I am okay with what I did accomplish.

Walking is so good for you. Just 30 minutes a day can help your body in so many ways. Keep walking. Glad to hear you were thinking of your four legged companion on a hot day.

I suffer from allergies too and I go in once a week to get allergy shots. I hate the shots but love the fact that I no longer get sick every other week.

I also track my steps. I try to get in at least 10,000 a day. On days that I do not run, a long walk helps me stay fit.

Thanks for sharing your blog.

My May BootCamp Tracking (Spring Into Shape!)

Monday, May 02, 2011

Day 2 of Official Spring Into Shape BootCamp Challenge

Let me just say that the last thing I wanted to do today was exercise.
*I did not sleep well last night.
*I went to a new grocery store in our area this morning w/my 4 yr old.....headache.
*Came home, put groceries away, made lunch, cleaned up morning & lunch dishes.
*Took a break online for a bit and decided to do my elliptical & bootcamp video before I had to pickup my 8 yr old daughter from school.
*Had some IBS symptoms this afternoon (not fun).

So, I am proud of myself for even getting in the cardio on the elliptical and the bootcamp video. Tomorrow WILL be better!

I've decided to keep track of my bootcamp workouts here and on the specified thread on the bootcamp team.

Day 1 of Official Spring Into Shape Bootcamp Challenge

Sunday, May 01, 2011

March & April were not excellent months for me exercise & eating-wise. In February I did the 28-Day Bootcamp Workout Challenge and proved to myself that I CAN fit exercise in, but it is sometimes difficult, if not next to impossible. I know this Spring Into Shape Challenge will be difficult as well due to the time of year....my worst for my seasonal allergies. However, I made it through the other bootcamp even with getting the flu....I just made up days by doing 2 videos per day for a bit.

So, with all that said, I am looking forward to getting stronger and losing pounds this month. My biggest challenge of all will be my eating habits. I know this because my allergies tend to make me want to eat more. Not sure why, but that is always the case. I need to make better food choices.

I did 30 minutes on the elliptical today. It was the best #'s I've ever done on the elliptical I think (581 calories burned/1639 revolutions). Because I did the 30 minute Intermediate Level 2 workout on the elliptical, I did the Day 2 challenge video and will do the Day 1 video on one of the days this week that I do not do the elliptical (cardio).

I wish all my fellow boot-campers much success with this challenge! emoticon

I am doing this challenge too, and the cardio kickboxing video (day 1) made me feel like I had two left feet!! It was a good workout but I felt like an uncoordinated fool for much of it. Best of luck!!

Today~Not As I Planned

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

Today was supposed to be a day for me to exercise and catch up on things. That is not happening. It was quite warm overnight and I did not sleep well. Then when I woke @ 6am I could tell my allergies were kicking in. I took my 24 hr medicine, did a salt water nasal rinse, Rx nasal spray, Advair and thought I'd be okay. Nope. The pollen index here today is 10.2~ that equals post nasal drip & a runny nose=lots of tissues.

To top it off, I had signed my 4 year old up for Creative Playgroup (a Pre-K drop in program so she can get some socialization with kids her own age) and when we got there she did not want to stay! I tried to get her to stay because I wanted to come home and rest, but nope.

Our central air conditioning is not on yet because we do not have the filter in yet, so when my husband gets home from work that is the next step to help me feel better. I cannot believe it's in the mid-80's already! I don't even have my shorts and tank tops out yet!

Tomorrow my 4 year old will be at my Mom's house. I am going to a used book sale in the morning and will hopefully feel well enough to do a good workout.

I got brave today and added some photos of myself on my home page (still not my face showing though). I'm hoping that me seeing these images when I log on to my page will give me the extra boost I need to make time to workout.
