Week1/Day 5 of 28-Day BootCamp WorkOut Challenge

Sunday, February 06, 2011

Yesterday I printed out the Printable Fitness Tracking Sheet from SparkPeople and I put it in a plastic protective sleeve. Then I planned out my exercise for the week and wrote on the protective sleeve so that I can use it like a dry erase board week after week. This is the only way I can keep up with exercising as things get busier and busier with the kids schedules, appointments, errands and such.

I did Day 5 & 6 of the BootCamp vidoes this morning and I feel like I did pretty well. The moves that gave me the most difficulty were during the hip adduction (inner thigh lifts) when you had to circle the leg in two directions....can you say "feel the burn"? The other move that gave me difficulty was the chair pushups. All in all I feel I did well with these bootcamp videos.

I am giving my body a break today from the elliptical/cardio because my quadriceps are still sore (along with some other body parts, but they aren't as bad.)

emoticonHope everyone has a fun time at their Super Bowl parties and that they watch what they are eating! Stay Healthy! emoticon

Week1/Day 4 of 28-Day BootCamp WorkOut Challenge

Saturday, February 05, 2011

I am very tired today. The dog woke me up @ 2am to go out and do his business and then my 4 year old woke me up @ 5:30am, dog went out again. Both kids were up around 8:30am, but I didn't get up until 9am. My husband was already making Bisquick pancakes on the griddle, so I didn't say anything and ate with the family. Breakfast undoubtedly added some extra calories I probably would've skipped today.

I decided to get my 30 minutes elliptical in this morning because I knew if I didn't, it most likely wouldn't happen today. It's rainy here and all I want to do is sleep or just be a couch potato. For some reason I decided to try the next level on my elliptical (usually I do Intermediate Level 2 which goes up to resistance of 7). I powered through the next level, but not with as much *gusto* as I normally would have. I knew I had to do a bootcamp video today so I did that plus another one because I was fearful that I wouldn't get any workouts in tomorrow because we were supposed to go to my nephew's birthday party. That has now been canceled because their family has a stomach virus. I didn't have a lot of difficulty with today's videos and was happy about that.

I just finished entering yesterday's and so far what I ate today in the food tracker. I've been on and off SparkPeople since 2007 and I *HATE* tracking food. I honestly don't have the time to sit down and enter all the information that is on the package/box of something I ate. I probably just spent 45 minutes to an hour entering food from yesterday and today! And I had to do this in my kitchen because that's where everything is. But, this challenge is requiring it, so I am trying my best to do the food tracking.

My next step is to find some new meal and snack ideas. My husband is graciously napping on the sofa right now, while my kids are in the basement playing games on the computer. That means it's time for me to get out of the kitchen and off my laptop so I can go do something relaxing for a bit.

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend! emoticon

Hi! It's snowing here, so all I want to do is 'vegetate' as well! I just finished day three of week four in the 28 Day Bootcamp Challenge, and I am so glad I joined it! I usually have ZERO motivation to exercise, and this was the kind of structure I need. Plus, I'm off work these last few weeks, and the challenges have -hopefully- kept me strong for when I go back to my very active job. Keep up the great work and I know you'll feel the difference. By the way, have you tried selecting the 'search other member's foods' in the food tracker's 'add a food'? It has really cut back on my tracking time! emoticon

Week1/Day 3 of 28-Day BootCamp WorkOut Challenge

Friday, February 04, 2011

Today I did 30 minutes of cardio on the elliptical while I watched the first half of the 2nd episode of 'Heavy'. After the elliptical workout I did the video for Day 2 of the Bootcamp Workout. Surprisingly, this workout wasn't as difficult for me as yesterday's workout. That said, my quadriceps (front of thighs) have been very sore since I did this workout. My quadriceps are not a muscle that I work on much I guess.

I attended a fun Bingo night held by my daughter's elementary school this evening and I did very well with resisting all the baked goods, candy and other foods they were selling there. I easily could have gave in, but did not. Any other time I probably would have given in. The reason I didn't tonight? Probably because I worked out and tried to track my food all day and did not want to mess all my hard work of the day up.

Week1/Day 2 of 28-Day BootCamp WorkOut Challenge

Thursday, February 03, 2011

My daughter had a 2-hour delay for school today and I knew I had to go to a store to find a gift for my nephew's birthday party for this Sunday. Also on the agenda in the evening was take the kids to choir practice at church and pick up my daughter's Girl Scout cookie orders from the cookie Mom's house. So, knowing all of this I really thought I wouldn't get in the 10-minute bootcamp video today. However, I decided I would do the video when my daughter did her homework right after school....before choir practice. My 4 year old wanted to do it with me, so I said sure! She started out okay and then got too tuckered out so she just sat down and watched me. Maybe this experience will help sink in her mind that when Mommy wants to workout that she needs to give me that time alone.

All that said, that 10-minute workout was difficult! I had it in my head that because I am doing pretty well with 30 minutes on the elliptical at an Intermediate level, that this 10 minutes of cardio wouldn't be that hard. But it was and it showed me just how UNFIT that I really am!
Here is a link to the workout in article form:

I started having difficult starting with the jumping jacks. Then came the Scissor Jumps with Mini Lunge, Squat Thrusts and Mountain Climbers. I sucked at these. By the end of the month I hope to have more stamina to do these moves.

So, although I wasn't great at this workout, I learned that I need to work on my stamina, vary my workouts and that fitting in 10 minutes of cardio a day CAN BE DONE! For me some days may be easier to fit in the cardio than others. The key for me is to start PLANNING workout times as well as PLANNING my meals better.

Lots of realizations came to light today!

I too struggled with the bootcamp videos. day 1 was really hard and day two was just over the top so I decided to step back and do day one until I am able to have the confidence that I am doing the exercies properly

Week1/Day 1 of 28-Day BootCamp WorkOut Challenge

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

Today was emoticon of the SparkPeople's Official 28-Day Bootcamp Workout Challenge for me. Since I actually joined the team last night, it is considering yesterday as my Day 1, but actually today is.

I drank all my water today, did 30 minutes on the elliptical and did not eat too badly. Not a shabby start. In the coming days I will have some 'tests' ahead of me. A Bingo night @ my daughter's elementary school where there will be food for dinner and I'm not thinking it will be extremely healthy (nachos, pizza, hot dogs maybe?). On Sunday it's my nephews birthday and cake. So yes, I am trying to think ahead and maybe get in some extra workout time to try to keep me from over-doing the eating at these events.

Trying to stay positive because I really want to do this challenge! emoticon
