Challenging Myself!

Tuesday, February 01, 2011

Yesterday I planned on getting in another good elliptical workout. I had a great cardio workout on Sunday and felt pretty good. Well, yesterday I woke up with a weird headache and a dry scratchy throat. I went food shopping and felt kind of sick at the store. So, after I was home and the groceries put away, the rest of the day I pretty much stayed stationery. I was kind of dizzy and just not myself. Later in the day I had 'gas' issues. Once that passed I felt better.

So, today my daughter had off from school because of the freezing rain. I cleaned the bathrooms, dealt with dishes and hemmed some of her jeans. I knew my daughter would not have school tomorrow either because of the impending ice storm, so I decided to workout after dinner. It wasn't planned, I kind of just decided that I felt okay to get some movement into my day. My throat is still dry and scratchy (post nasal drip I think), but I did okay on the elliptical. I watched the 1st half of the 1st episode of 'Heavy' during my workout and it seemed to go quickly for me (I've never watched TV while working out before).
So this evening I decided to join the "Official 28-Day Bootcamp Workout Challenge" here on SparkPeople. I am so hoping I can do this. Its a short month and I need to re-lose the weight I gained over the Christmas/New Year holidays. January wasn't the month I wanted it to be, but I'm hoping in February I can make up for that.

I have heard a lot of good things about the boot camp. I am planning on trying it out after I build up my cardio a bit more and if I reach a plateau.

Enjoy it!

Great job on getting your workout. It's nice to do things while working out so the time passes quickly. I read while on my treadmill and I work a circle the word puzzle book when I'm on my stationary bike. Wishing you a great day and month !!!

Dunno why we keep gain back the pounds/inches losses during holidays, hehe. Thankfully big holidays are less than 5x yearly!

Don't force yourself too much if you don't feel good, the body needs some breaks now and then, it's not like we're in ninja movie emoticon

Hope you are feeling better today

I did the 28day Bootcamp Challenge during January - as a way to boost my normal fitness program and it certainly gave me more commitment - being accountable was good. I dont think it made any difference to my weight (I'm maintaining more than anything these days) or to measuremens but I certainly started getting new compliments from people outside my usual circle!!

Enjoy - it's fun and only 10minutes a day

Setback Because Of Sweets!

Monday, January 24, 2011

This past weekend has been a setback. On Thursday I focused on buying more fruits & veggies when I went to the produce store, but ended up bringing home a strawberry cream cheese coffee cake and 2 boxes of donuts too. Then on Friday my husband picked up the 1st round of my daughters Girls Scout cookie orders. I purchased the coffee cake mainly for my husband and figured he would enjoy the donuts with the kids. But, my husband got the stomach flu Friday night and was in bed all day Saturday. I guess I was stressed or just craving the sweets and so here I am on Monday probably at a pound or two setback. I am angry with myself. Maybe too much depriving myself of sweets as a whole got me into this mess. My 'time of month' was last week, so that probably has a lot to do with it too. But all these excuses do not erase the fact that I've lost control over the eating of these sweets. I need more discipline. And I need it now!

I just want to be honest with my Sparkfriends and myself. Confessing what I have done here helps a bit. Now it's time to move forward and get some control! Thanks for reading!

It happened to me too about two weeks ago, and for the same reasons. I had cookies in the house for the kids and it was that time of the month. I told myself that in the future, I am going to reach for an apple or grab some grapes.

Today is a new day and this is a new week so let the past stay in the past and focus on the present.

The sweets get me every time too. I do way better if they aren't in the house. Friends brought apple turnovers and ice cream the other night for dessert. Once they left I threw the leftovers (ice cream included) away. I had dessert, but it didn't need to stick around so I could finish it all off.

Here's hoping you find discipline. I have faith in you!

A&E Series 'Heavy'

Monday, January 17, 2011
This series is premiering right now on A&E. I am recording it because I have a lot of online catching up to do tonight. It will follow 2 people every week (20 people in all) on their weight loss journeys. This show WILL give you motivation to eat right and get moving. If these people can do it, so can you!

My Motivation & An SP Article

Thursday, January 13, 2011

After last weeks water heater issues, I am 'trying' to bounce back this week. Yesterday all the school districts in our area had off from school....except for my daughter's. The roads by her school were terrible and still aren't in great shape today. I extremely dislike driving when the snow/ice is caked onto the road. So I had a lot of anxiety about it yesterday.

I haven't been sleeping well so then during the day I am dragging and have no motivation to do much of anything. This cold, blustery weather isn't helping my motivation any either. I am really trying to get in gear today. I have laundry to put away, at least 3 loads to wash/dry and a lot of organizing I want to tackle around the house. I am taking baby steps and that's what I have to do to get back into the exercise groove and healthy eating again. I've gotta do it soon too because the pounds I lost a couple months back are creeping back.

I'm not sure if any of you have seen this article Coach Nicole from SP shared today, but I'm going to share the link in case you missed it. Do not be put off by the title '5 Reasons Why SparkPeople Suck'. This is a satirical article:

Loved the article, it's worth passing around to friends in email. Taking baby steps is a good start. Don't bite off more than you can chew. It takes time, patience and lots of support.

To battle the winter blues, I find getting outside really helps! I shovel my walk, then go to neighbors and shovel theirs just to be nice. It's a workout as we all know. The air is so crisp. Really lightens things up for me. Or if everything is shoveled, I go for a walk. Then when it's time to come inside, the inside seems so welcoming b/c it's warm and toasty.

Being from upstate NY, I'm used to the cold weather. I lived farther south now, and I find most that don't like being outside aren't dressed warmly. It's so cozy being outside when you are bundled up.

Maybe I'm crazy though.

Anyway, just wanted to say keep plugging and try to enjoy little things everyday. Celebrate each task. You can do this!

What Else?

Wednesday, January 05, 2011

So, I took down the tree today, re-arranged the living room and put some of the Christmas decor up in the attic. So what happens tonight? After I give the kids a bath and whilehubby is taking a shower, I go in the basement and there is water all over the laundry room and in the back storage area. The hot water heater burst! Yeah. It's been a long evening. Having a couple glasses of red wine so I can sleep soundly tonight!

Christmas night we had water over half the laundry room because we had roots in our lateral line. In the past we've had issues (flooding in the basement because of hurricanes, laundry hose on the loose, etc.) but never two incidents this close together. Is God testing our patience or what? We will survive. I am very thankful hubby has a friend who is a plumber and came over to help and will be back tomorrow morning. Guess who doesn't get to take a shower until this is all fixed? Me of course ;-)

Thank you all! The new water heater was installed Thursday and I finally got my shower Thursday night. Today was a *snow day* for my 8 year old, but she spent the afternoons at a friends. So I caught up on some laundry (still a few more loads to do), but am hoping to get back on the elliptical tomorrow. Thanks again for your comments!

Geesh! Talk about lame. I hate when you feel on top of it and something knocks you upside the head like that. I'm hoping that everything gets fixed quickly.

Isn't always that way? Atleast for me it is, it usually happens all at once...and always the last one to benefit from something even as simple as a hot shower! Best of luck here!
