I did it...WOOHOO...

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

I reached one of my mini goals. It was "BMI under 30". I reached it today, so I am going to get a new laptop. That was the reward I picked for reaching that milestone in my journey. I have one of the first laptops ever made...have needed a new one for a long time. But always gave other family purchases higher priority. So it feels especially good to do something for me! emoticon

my first SP 5K yesterday

Sunday, April 17, 2011

When I first started SP in Jan. all I did was walk. Then I started the 5K your way training. I signed up for the virtual 5K walk/run spark into spring race. I had a week in which to complete the race. Naturally, I waited till the last day to do it. It was raining and windy and cold. That's what I get for procrastinating.

A couple of years ago I walked a 5K for a charity thing. It was more of a social event. We walked and talked the entire time. I don't even remember my finishing time. Nor did I care. That's all changed now...for the better. Thank you SP.

When it is nice out, I have been taking a walk/run from my house to the closest state route and back, which is 4 miles. 5K if I just go to the group of trees past the cow barn. I had never timed myself before yesterday. The route is a challenge for someone just starting out. There are a lot of up and down hills. I actually prefer to do the route in the early morning before the sun comes up so I can't see the hills.

My time was 44:29...not bad considering it was raining , cold, and windy. And I was mad at myself for putting it off till the last day. I kept saying to myself "just keep swimming, just keep swimming". I felt like I was swimming upstream!

It will get easier. This I know for sure.

Cool. There is a lot to be said for "just walking". We never refer to a toddler that way. It is JUST the beginning of bigger and better things. The start is exciting, and the rewards never ending.

Way to go! I thnk your time is fantastic for a first race, especially in the wind. Wind is so brutal! I think I'm going to go for it, too, although on my treadmill. I'm not allowed to run on pavement anymore since my knee problems. Thanks for motivating me!

That is awesome! And since you did it in the miserable weather, you should get a double trophy!!

This is pretty cool. I saw that you got an award for it yesterday and I wondered what it was. So I poked around on SP til I found it. Now I want to sign up for a race too. I'm not allowed to run on anything but an elliptical, cause of a pesky injury, but I can sure as heck walk. Thanks for posting this; it encourages me to get out there and try it too!
