Ok after many starts and stops for quite some time now I have made some choices.

Dealing with 2 family members going through depression and stress has added so much stress on to me.

The result a gain of 5 kilos since September. Not good. The crunch came 2 nights ago having dinner while we away for a few days. The stress was so high in me that I had trouble breathing and swallowing while eating my dinner. I hit rock bottom in my ability to cope with any thing. I certainly was no help to the family that needs me to be strong. I am climbing back up though.

Went to the doctors yesterday and he has given me some medication for short term to help me sleep and relax the tense muscles in my body giving me so much pain. After months of restless sleep had my first decent night last night.

Today I made the next step to try and control this manic eating pattern I have developed and I go to see a dietician on Friday.

The only thing I have maintained over this time is my exercise.

I feel embarassed and ashamed at not getting control of my eating but it is not from lack of trying.

I read the articles and have the motivation until the next family crisis kicks in.

So to all my spark friends who constantly support me I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Just knowing you are there to support me in the highs and lows is more than words can say.

    Hi Georgia,

Sorry I'm so late in replying to this blog. My doctor pointed out a long time ago that depression affects more than the individual diagnosed with it. It is interesting that you have two family members with depression and you wonder why you are stressed. It is because all the books in the world tell us that depression is nobody's fault but we somehow think we can be the pillar for our family members to cling to. I know, because I've been on both sides of the equation. I was so suicidal about 8 years ago that my husband ended up taking a year off work as he thought it was his fault. I know you want to help your family members but before you can do that you have to be strong yourself. This is not selfish!

    Georgia,you are always so supportive and loving towards your family and us. I wish i can be in teh same area to spend some time with you.

I am glad you are getting some help in the sleep department and for your anxiety attacks.

I suffer from that once in a while and it is no fun.

    I'm so sorry! Please remember to take care of yourself, even if you have to walk away from a family crisis, sometimes that's just what you need to do, there's no hep for anyone if you make yourself sick and then the next family crisis ends up being you... Sometimes the absolute best thing you can do for someone is to say no, even if it's only for the time it takes for you to sort yourself out... But if you can't do that, make sure you rely on us, that's what we're here for!

    Georgia you are such an inspiration and the great thing is is that you realize you to have to take care of yourself. So many of us just let us go and you took the steps to go and get some relief so you can help and be the strong awesome lady I know you are. I'm so glad to have met you on here.     Hi Georgia= so sorry to hear you are having such a tough time. It is so hard to make all the right and healthy choices for ourselves when we are understress. I understand how you are feeling.good on you for making some postitive choices and changes. baby steps and your right it is important to look after yourself before you offer support to others, take care- I would love to catch up with you again however i know how hard you work and how precious your spare time is to you - especially now.

    Oh Georgia, I am so sorry to hear what you have been going through. You know I know about anxiety and what it can do. At the end of last year, I went through the muscle stiffness and pain you are having. I would wake up in the morning and feel like I ran a marathon. I had to seek help on the short term too. Do what you have to to take care of yourself. You know I am here if you need to vent!

Australia Day January 26 2011

I had the good (or bad depending how you look at it) fortune to go out for a drive today. We took a couple of turns and without really knowing where we were ended up driving through some of the flood affected roads. No towns just some farm land.

I was heartbroken to see the damage to the roads and to see how high and furiously the waters had run through these places. Words could not describe the damage.

But I must also add that as heartbreaking as it was it was also heartwarming to see how we Aussies gathered round and helped each other get lives back to some normality. Roads, properties and some fences were being rebuilt and cleaned up.

Aussie flags flying or hooked onto fences or trees. Showing we may be down but definitely not beaten.

We were trying to visit friends who had been through some tough days but due to road closures on our way and redirections just never got there.

Turned around and came home.

I think it is going to be months before some of these roads will be drivable.

So put the snags on the barbie (sausages on the grill) and Happy Australia day to us all.

Don't forget our friends in Victoria going through the same as we did only a few short weeks ago.

Okay it has been a week or so since I made some committiments to myself and here are the results of week !.

Exercised for 30 minutes for 4 days last week.

Portion control has improved.

Water no problem. 6-8 glasses a day.

Now to work harder in the next week.

I am so pleased. Today I have finally achieved the exercise target I set almost 1 year ago.

10000 exercise minutes. After a very slack part at the beginning of the year I have now achieved it.

Yippee and hi hoorah.!!!

If I can do it so can you.
