Gestational Diabetes

Thursday, May 15, 2014

I was trying to avoid it, but the fact is...some people who are pregnant just end up with the hormones that cause insulin resistance. It turns out that I am one such person. I received the call yesterday from the doctor's office. I'm being referred to a dietitian who will put me in a class to learn about the subject and healthy ways of controling it as well as receiving a glucose monitor which I will inform my doctor of the brand. We will get my fasting glucose reading and then from there I need to control my diet. I hope with diet and exercise I can keep those numbers in check. I really do not want to take insulin. Better to know than not to know, but still...bummed out a little. I did go to Spark's glucose tracker so I can use it daily. Spark is such a helpful tool for all this!

I am also experiencing my first GD pregnancy. I have 4 weeks until I am induced at 38 weeks. I was wondering how you are doing? I also wanted to encourage you that whether you need insulin or not, I have read many encouraging things about GD babies and pregnancies. We are so blessed to live in a day that medicine is available for such a pregnancy! emoticon Praying for you!

I had GD during pregnancy too. Follow doctors orders and seek advice if you need it. Follow the diet and workout when you can. If you are high risk then please heed the warnings. Not to scare you but my son has mild CP *probably* due to GD in pregnancy. Again it isn't a given that GD is the cause but I wish someone had warned me of the risks. But I was 41 too so very high risk in the first place. Watch your stress too, it raises blood sugar! The baby will be here before you know it and I wish you an easy pregnancy.

Issues with Pregnancy Sister Site

Monday, April 14, 2014

Well, I tried and really did not like it. I've been spoiled by So, I've decided to alter my goals and such on Spark and continue a Fit Pregnancy here. Joined a Fit Mom Team that seems way more active and helpful than on the other site. At least I tried it. When Katie gets home I'm going to try my Yoga Booty Ballet Baby on the Way video I bought off my beachbody coach a long time ago (and still haven't tried). Katie likes to try exercise videos with me, it's so cute...she likes yoga poses and stretches best. Erin is going to love her big sister.

When I was pregnant with my son I joined BabyFit and also disliked it due to lack of support and activity on there by the other expecting moms. SP is much better. At the time I didn't realize how active pregnant women were on here. WTG on staying active while pregnant! Congrats on your second pregnancy. =)

I would definitely be interested in the group. Yes, the video is worth it. I've added it to my weekly rotation. It was just enough. emoticon

I was thinking of starting a pregnancy group on facebook for extra support staying on track throughout this pregnancy if you'd like to be a part of it let me know!

6 Months Expecting!

Wednesday, April 09, 2014

I have been dormant on Sparkpeople for quite a bit, but there is a reason. I am expecting! My husband and I are expecting our 2nd child (and 2nd daughter), Erin Theresa. My due date is July maybe a little early, maybe a little late. We will see. Today my doctor told me I need to cut out white sugar from my diet because I am gaining too much weight. They are worried about gestational diabetes. Spark has a pregnancy that I'll be moving over to until Erin is born to help me with these specific needs. When she's born, I'll be right back here on Spark! Very excited.

Cakemakermom, Thank you! The sister site does not have near the amount of tools that Spark does, but it does have specific info I wouldn't find on here. I'll have to use the two in tandem.

1Mankney, Thank you! So excited for your new grandson! I love Gumdrop, lol. We kept calling Erin Circus Peanut until we found out she was a girl. My husband and I knew our 1st and 2nd girl's names by the second week of us dating way back in 2006. We both knew we wanted kids and thats one of the things we talked about. We even have 1st and 2nd boys names picked out too, but it seems we were meant to have girls.

Congratulations on a new baby girl. Very exciting! We are expecting a new grandson on July 29. So far he does not have a name. He is being called Gumdrop as that was his size in the first sonogram! Cute name you have chosen.

It has been awhile since I was last on Sparkpeople. My family and I have moved to Kentucky, gotten a new house, I start my new job at the Western KY Botanical Garden on Tuesday and my daughter is already in a new daycare. My husband had transferred his position to the state and city we have always wanted to permanently live in.

Sadly, in this upheaval, I picked up some old nasty habits such as drinking soda again. I have put on 10 pounds!!!! So, time to bite the bullet and get back into shape. I have a Beachbody coach that has gotten me in gear to start a new challenge on Aug 26th. I will be doing the Turbo Jam DVDs that I already have (I really like them), replacing my breakfast with a protein shake and trying to cut soda out of my diet.

Time to reboot!

1.4 lb Muscle Gain and Happy!!!!!!!

Monday, March 04, 2013

Yesterday was my weigh-in day. I gained 1.4 pounds. Am I upset? NOOOOO!!! Quite the opposite. I knew I'd plateau at some point. I'm not big. In fact, I had already gotten to my goal weight of 135 super early and decided to try for 130 if I could, but if not then that was fine because I'm in a zone to maintain.

Thanks to the SparkPeople 28 Day Boot Camp DVD, I may have gained 1.4 lbs but I'm thinning all over. I'm starting to see definition in my middle. My legs and arms are much, much smaller in circumference (I wish I would have taken measurements because I KNOW I've lost serious inches). Even better, I can do that advanced plank/triceps kickback maneuver in the tone and sculpt portion. My pants are falling down and my shirts are loose. I'm even noticing that by the time this is over I may have to get my wedding and engagement set re sized. They are almost to the point of sliding off!

I'm super excited and super grateful for SparkPeople.
