Week three of Paleo

Monday, February 04, 2013

I am the worst when it comes to sticking to a diet. Three weeks ago I started on the Paleo Diet starting with guidelines from Whole 30. I am finally back to my posted Sparkpeople weight. I worked my tail off this past summer to get under 180. Then I gained it back.

I think I broke the plateau with these dietary guidelines. This past weekend I did not eat the candy or desserts that were all over a party I was at. I did not eat pizza for lunch when helping a friend move.

So I am doing well. Tonight I made mayonnaise for the first time using egg yolks, olive oil, coconut oil, lemon and Dijon mustard and then added it to chicken salad. It was so good!

This is really working out for me. I've dined out a few times and it was doable. A little worried because I am going to a conference in Phoenix this week. I need to plan ahead and be prepared especially for breakfast. emoticon
My running shoes and music will be packed. So will the excitement of breaking through my plateau. emoticon

We're whole foods, clean eating, and plant-based. Still a tiny amount of dairy on occasion, and we still use eggs a couple of times per week. But when 90% of your diet is whole plants - fruits, veggies, nuts, seed, beans/legumes, and whole grains - it's usually pretty easy to lose weight. Tons of fiber, almost no fat, and very low calorie. Not to mention all the phytochemicals and antioxidants. Healthy stuff!

Awesome! I really enjoy a lot of Paleo recipes, but have never tried strictly doing just Paleo. I may give it more thought. Any recommended sites for good info?

I aLways come back to Sparkpeople!

Friday, January 25, 2013

No matter what I do, I always find myself coming back to SP when it comes to staying healthy. Since my last Blog in July I have stayed busy and active. I am still teaching Spin classes at 5:30 am 2 days a week. I did the Bisbee 1000 stairclimb in October. A week later, I did a dual-Athlon. Finished 2nd to last but I did it! Lady weekend, I did my first. Half marathon. Best confidence builder ever. I know I can do a marathon and finish it...I t won't be very fast but I will finish it. Since November I have added yoga to my routine. I'm not very flexible but it helps me run. emoticon
On an added note, one of the Internet sites my blu-ray player has is Sparkrecipes!

You really have stayed busy! COngratulatons on all you've accomplies! I have thought a couple of times about doing the Bisbee 1000 since it's only abou 3 1/2 hours or so from me. I live in southern NM. I've watched Youtube videos about the course before. Who knows, I may decide to try it this fall if everything works out okay.
Keep up the great work!!

I want to work out!

Friday, July 20, 2012

Had a great vacation to Monterey And San Francisco last week. I am sure this was the last vacation I have where I had all three of my kids together. The Navy is sending my oldest son to Nebraska and my daughter is headed off to New Mexico State University. We really enjoyed the trip. It was a tad chilly after being in AZ but that didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves. Somewhere on the last leg of the journey, I are something that didn't agree with me. I made it through the flight but got sick as soon as we got home. I had to teach a Spinning class at 5:30 Monday morning. Not exactly my most energetic ride. I didn't cancel because that is my biggest class (all 9 of them). Made it through the ride and spent the next 2 days in bed. Slow moving on Weds and Thurs. Thought all was well so I went to Tucson with my daughter and ate out. It quickly became obvious I was still toting my bug around because my stomach pain returned...and I had to teach again this morning! So my ride was great but I wasn't into it. I have a brand new pair of running shoes waiting for their first run. This was my last week off from school. I think it's time to send my husband to the store to buy some kefir to see if all those healthy probiotics will help.

So sorry about the stomach upset... sure hope you are feeling better already!

You'll have to let your SP buddies know if you make the trip out to NMSU to visit your daughter... I know that Linda and I would love to meet up with you! :)

Hope you feel better soon! Sorry that your kids will be spitting up like that. New Mexico state university is in Las Cruces, 2 hour from where I live. It's our biggest place around here to go shopping with a variety of stores besides Walmart, K-Mart, and Family Dollar LOL.
Hope your day is better today!

You did not eat anything wrong,, I thought the same thing last weekend:I was sick Sat-Mon,, lost a days work,, lost five pounds on Saturday alone.. my co-workers who were not even at work when I got it, also got it,, friends in Ohio got it too.. it must be a low-lying stomach virus,,

I am not into the probiotic hype,, regular yogurt has worked for e for over fifty years,, works for yeast infections too..
I am so glad you enjoyed the trip, but that is QUITE along spread of state.. I have been to both places, drove from San Jose to San Diego in one day.. 600 miles,, you made quite the trip!!!!

Worked hard this week!

Saturday, July 07, 2012

I really gave it my all this week when it came to exercise. I put in 2-3 hours each day at the gym except for the 4th of July ( 1 hour at the gym and an hour of yard work). Most of my workouts were cardio.

I taught my Spin classes on Monday and Friday then went to 2 other spin classes. I did cardio kick classes, group power and ran on the treadmill. On Weds. I did the stair climbing machine and the rowing machine. They worked very different muscles. Tomorrow morning I am going on a bike ride. I wanted to get all my exercise in before I go on vacation on Monday. I know the intensity of this week will make me think twice about my meals. emoticon

As far as food goes, I tried very hard to stay focused. I had chicken sausage on the 4 th but the macaroni salad was too good to resist. So once I had those carbs the cravings kept coming. I didn't do serious damage and I still stayed on the negative side of the calories. It was just depressing to see how fast empty calories add up. I also noticed how stress affected carb cravings. My husband told me Weds morning that he invited family over for the holiday.
I kept preaching it was nothing to get stressed over.....

Wishing all a good weekend. I have a refrigerator full of vegetables we have to eat before Monday, so I am going to be eating clean and green this weekend.

Great workouts today!

Tuesday, July 03, 2012

I started my day teaching Spin at 5:30 a.m! I had a great, energetic ride. I made a slideshow of fireworks and flags that was playing on the tv while we rode to some great Patriotic music. I encouraged everyone to wear red, white and blue and gave out party hats to the first five people on their bikes. It was a good feeling since it was only my 10th class. It went over very well. One of the younger people in the class thoughtbit was my best ride yet! I went back to the gym in the afternoon for Group Power and then stayed for another spin class to flush out my legs. Enjoying having the extra time to spend in the gym!
