How do you show your individuality?

Monday, January 01, 2007

Showing individuality is not just about non-conformity or rebellion. It's also about being your own person. Do you go to a sale just because everyone else is? Do you style your hair or clothes because it's the latest fashion or do you do it the way that YOU feel looks best on you? Individuality is more about what makes you comfortable where being a non-conformist is about making others uncomfortable.

This topic needs to be revisited now that we're so close to election time. Seems this is a terrific topic to discuss in relationship to the way people vote. Do we as a society "group vote" ie., how other family members or friends vote, or do we REALLY go out on that limb and vote our own conscience.

The power of having a dream and a vision

Monday, December 18, 2006

This has been exactly my problem for a while. I finally realized this about a month ago and after realizing it I felt my depression beginning to lift. The fog of confusion on where I was going began to disipate. After retirement from the Army I had lost my goals. We always hear the question, "Now that you have it, what are you going to do with it?" That was me! Achieved retirement and then wandered aimlessly.

What would you do if you knew you wouldn't fail?

Sunday, December 17, 2006

Fear of failure has been a problem for me for as long as I can remember. Looking back on all the times I've feared failure, none of them have been because I was afraid for me. I see that it has always been because I was afraid of what others would think or say. People will always be out there to tell you that you can't or shouldn't do something. Sometimes it will be those closest to you. It's their own fears that are overlaid on your dreams and aspirations and we must shake them off. Realize that does not mean ignoring what they say, afterall we should have a certain measure of caution and they may see things that we can't. But all that "Good" advice should temper your dreams, not stifle them. Our dreams should power us to move forward. Our fears should balance us along the way to achieving that goal.

Seeing the wonder in the smallest details

Saturday, December 16, 2006

This was a very timely article. I've been losing sight of the forest for the trees, as the old saying goes. I've been too wrapped up in those things that I convinced myself, really mattered, and began to lose sight of the beauty around me. I was even getting to the point of not being able to remember the last time I was doing something for my wife vs. doing something because of work. Life is too short to sit around wondering what I need to do for work next Monday vs. when/where will we take that next vacation and reconnect with each other.

What leaps of faith are you willing to take?

Sunday, August 13, 2006

It's not about living dangerously or living on the edge. But if you are afraid of looking over the edge you will never see what could be there.
