Old Is When......

Thursday, February 11, 2010

OLD' IS WHEN..... Your sweetie says, 'Let's go upstairs and make love,' and you answer, 'Pick one, I can't do both!'

'OLD' IS WHEN.. Your friends compliment you on your new alligator shoes and you're barefoot.

'OLD' IS WHEN. A sexy babe catches your eye and your pacemaker opens the garage door.

'OLD' IS WHEN.... Going bra-less pulls all the wrinkles out of your face.

'OLD' IS WHEN..... You don't care where your spouse goes, just as long as you don't have to go along.

'OLD' IS WHEN..... You are cautioned to slow down by... the doctor instead of by the police.

'OLD' IS WHEN.... 'Getting a little action' means I don't need to take any fiber today.

'OLD' IS WHEN..... 'Getting lucky' means you find your car in the parking lot.

'OLD' IS WHEN..... An 'all-nighter' means not getting up to pee........

Due to having an infection, my glucose was going crazy, so I had to ban the idea of the trial right now, to find out if two meals or three meals is better, for me, to get my glucose, under more even control.

I will pray about it and decide whether to take this on again, after my body heals.

I thank you for your comments, giving them thoughts, as I decide.

Hugs to All Wishing them Onward and Downward!

The Shadow

A bit of something to think about as you drink you tea this morning

One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd." I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friend tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes. My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him. As he crawled around looking for his glasses, I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks. They really should get lives." He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!" There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.

I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now. I would have never hung out with a private school kid before.

We talked all the way home, and I carried his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play football on Saturday with me and my friends. He said yes. We hung all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him. And my friends thought the same of him. Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. I stopped him and said, "Damn boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!" He just laughed and handed me half the books.

Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. When we were seniors, began to think about college. Kyle decided on Georgetown, and I was going to Duke. I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem. He was going to be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship. Kyle was valedictorian of our class. I teased him all the time about being a nerd. He had to prepare a speech for graduation. I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak.

Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more dates than me and all the girls loved him! Boy, sometimes I was jealous. Today was one of those days. I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!" He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. Thanks," he said.

As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began. "Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach... but mostly your friends. I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story."

I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile.

"Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable." I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile.

Not until that moment did I realize it's depth.

Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. For better or for worse.

Trying to Figure if 3 meals or 2 meals is better, for me!

Thursday, February 04, 2010

I'm in a trial with myself this week, I'm eating breakfast, in the AM and another meal mid-afternoon and a snack in the evening, to see if it will help with glucose numbers and weight lost.

I am just beginning, so I have not really kept scores of anything yet. Just wanted to see, if I could do it, or if I would be too hungry and eat too much. I don't feel this was the case, yesterday, or today.

So Monday I will weigh in and do this for a week officially, and write a blog a week from Monday, with the results.

Look forward to the Update! I have senior moments, so if someone wants to remind me a week from Sunday, I would appreciate it. lol

This should be interesting!

Any thoughts, any warnings.

Linda are you diabetic, if so they say 5-6 small meals a day is the best. Keeps glucose levels steady with is the goal. At least that is how my nutritionist explained it to me.
Take care.

Computers...he or she?

An English teacher was explaining to his students the concept of gender association in the English language.

He noted how hurricanes at one time were given only female names, and how ships and planes were usually referred to as “she.”

One of the students raised his hand and asked, “What gender is a computer

The teacher wasn’t certain. So he divided the class into two groups: males in one, females in the other, and asked them to decide if a computer should be masculine or feminine. Both groups were asked to give four reasons for their recommendations.

The group of women concluded that computers should be referred to as masculine because:

1. In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.

2. They have a lot of data but are still clueless.

3. They are supposed to help you solve your problems, but half the time they are the problem.

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have had a better model.

The men, on the other hand, decided that computers should definitely be referred to as feminine because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic.

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.

3. Even your smallest mistakes are stored in their long-term memory for later retrieval.

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for them.
